Chris Taylor On Little Boys, New Game

Gas Powered Games boss and Mr. Total Annihilation Chris Taylor has spoken with CVG about what he and his company are up to in the wake of Supreme Commander. Most of it is console stuff, but what's a wee bit interesting is his big "non genre" project.

We're very excited about the titles we're working on because one of them in particular is not a specific genre - it's very different. Although it shares and has genetic routes in a lot of different areas it's not one specific thing.

It's exciting because it's taken me many years to get to the point where I make something that different and non-genre specific. In our industry it's hard to sell a concept that's outside an established genre.

My inspiration came from watching my boys play. There was a real inspiration there and I'm excited to put them down in front of the game when it's far enough along to see what they do. That's the litmus test for me.

Fingers crossed this bold new QA initiative pays off. Kids can be pretty fickle: I used to work in childcare, and one day, after suffering through untold hours of Pokemon Stadium on N64, I "suggested" we play some Smash Bros. I got several blank stares, one awkward cough and one particularly galling set of rolled eyes. Little shits.

I hope Chris is ready for them to play it for three minutes, state blankly "Dad, this is a bit rubbish", then toddle off to play some Diamond and/or Pearl.
