Being the type of site never to rely on rumors for news, I made sure to refrain from posting about the alleged Gears of War downloadable content that was rumored to be coming out on 12/24. The rumors were started by what many believed to be an Epic Games sponsored viral marketing site, theabovedomain.com, which has now been removed.
As it turns out, mt reticence was rewarded with the news that it was all a big hoax. The deception was brought to light by none other than Mark Rein, Vice President of Epic Games with his comments on the official Gears of War forums.

I wish the fan sites and online media would check with me first before they post stuff like this. Pretty much all of them have at least my email address (if not my phone number) and I check mail many, many times throughout the day.
Thankfully, we here at Kotaku didn't fall in to that terrible Re-Emergence Day hole.
