It's started weee.
David Jaffe is sitting next to me, kinda cool.
He wants to say HI.
DJ:what's up ya'll? I hope you like the game we've been working on...we're about to announce it in about 1 hour....fuck it, I'll just tell you: It's called Criminal Crackdown and it ain't a story game that will make you cry...shit, event is starting...gotta go! Talk to ya later! David
Hit the jump to read the updates.
Kaz Hirai just took the stage: Today what we hope to do is wrap everything up in a nice neat package today. Hopefully telling you everything you want to know.
Here's a break down of what we will be doing today.
First look at what
What'ss physically in the box.
Launch titles
Peripherals
Playstation network
Playstation Store
Downloadable Content
Kaz: We are creating a feature package of what we would call future proof. Everything in the box defines what next gen is about.
Speaking of boxes the Playstation 3 is in production and the final box product is coming off the line as we speak.
He's holding up the box for the Playstation 3. Kinda cool. Big, with a white bar across the bottom.
Oh here comes the launch line up. For the "launch window"
The full line up is really long. 22 games all said.
Genji
NBA 07
Resistance Fall of Man
Blazing Angles
Call of Duty 3
Fight Night Round 3
E\Oblivion
FEAR
Full Auto 2
Madden 07

OMG, he just said: "And my favorite Riiiiiiidge Racer."
Nice.
Damn missed the full list, I'll get it up when they give me the release in a bit.
He's going through some of the games one by one now.
"With games like these we have an incredible line-up of titles for consumers to enjoy."
Video is rolling showing gameplay.
Nice bit of gameplay vid. Mostly of games we will be playing upstairs in a bit.
Now Jack Tretton is taking the stage.
Tretton is going over what is going to come inside both SKUs of the PS3. No suprises here.
Now he's talking about the Cell technology. Oooh, a picture of a chip.
The first 500,000 PS3s will get a copy of Talladega Nights in Blu-ray for frees. Sweet.
They're showing a clip for the movie now. Nice. OOOOOOH maybe he'll be here. They did mention a special guest.
Nope.
Now he's talking about the SIXAXIS controller. Its an updated and "revolutionized" version of the PS2 controller. Has more than 30 hours of battery life with one charge.
The PS3 will come with an AC cord, USB mini-cord, ethernet cable and multi-av cable with composite connectors.
"There is no big brick hanging down."
First party software will be $59.99.
Wireless controller $49.99.
Memory card adapter $14.99
Blu -ray disc player remote will be $24.99
The kiosks being rolled out will be networked for remote updates and will have premium display space.
Phil Harrison just took the stage to talk about online gaming and such.
He's bringing up the founder and president of Insomniac Games to show off some Resistance.
Wow, the game looks amazing. Very deep, lots of details.
He's showing off some of the really cool weapons, like the Bullseye, which lets you spot a target and then fire around corners. Another is the Hailstorm which can fire bouncing bullets or mini turrets.
Now he's paused the game to move around it to show how very interactive it is. The point is, the game really sucks up a lot of SPUs and does stuff other platforms could never handle.
Now he's showing the Reapers. Independently targeting pistols. In other words, the two pistols will actually act like two seperate weapons. Very cool.
Now he's into online.
The game supports up to 40 at once.
Onto more Blu-ray details. Now Harrison is talking about how the new medium will effect gaming. It will "drive the next generation of gaming."
Harrison has someone playing Genji now. Kinda purdy, but nothing amazing.
Showing NBA 07 now which plays at full 1080p and 60fps.
The resolution is simply amazing. Sound is pretty good as well.
Lair is getting played now.
It's 1080p and uses the motion controls. The dragon just went seamlessly from air to ground, which was pretty damn cool.
Looks very cool, very visceral.
Harrison is walking through what it will be like to take a PS3 home and open it up for the first time.
He powered on the console with the controller and is in the interface now. He's scrolled to Phil as a user. Kaz and Jack are listed as his children. Ouch.
The cross media bar looks, as we knew it would, like the PS3 interface.
He's going to go through all of the different options.
Lots of settings, which he says he won't be going through.
Now on to the photo area.
The PS3 can be the repository of all of our photos in one place. He's showing off very high res images now. They look quite nice in 1080p.
He's scrolling through the pics. Now he's bringing up a very kick ass looking photo album, which just shows the photos spilling across a table. It looks amazingly realistic.
Now onto music. He's showing the 3d visualizer. Ehh.
Now on to the video icon. Each of the video clup thumbnails are actually running in real time. So there's like a half dozen live videos running at the same time. Very neat.
Now he's showing a Spiderman 3 clip, showing how he can fast forward and such.
Ooooh now we are the first to watch the Casino Royale movie clip. Damn, he ended it early. Such a tease.
Now onto the network functionality.
There's a huge list of friends, each with their own icons. Showing chat, which uses predictive text. You can also use a USB keyboard straight away.
There's a seperate option for Players Met, which lets you add and ban people from your friend's list.
Now on to Internet Browser.
PS3 free of charge, includes a fully functioning web browser. You can have up multiple windows showing different things. OOOOH, he just showed a You Tube of Kaz's Ridge Racer.
And now on to Remote Play. It shows a PSP icon.
He's demonstrating. He said he put the PS3 in remote play mode.
He's watching the Casino Royale trailer from his PS3 on his PSP. Initially in your own house in your own WiFi hot spot, and eventually at any hotspot in the world.
Damn, I guess that means they won't be adding the full functionality until later.
John Smedley, president of Sony Online Entertainment, who was sitting right in front of me, just took the stage.
He's talking about the Playstation Store.
"We've already deployed servers around the world and our system is go for launch."
SCE has allowed third parties to plug into the store.
The store has two menus: What's New and Top Downloads.
There's also a featured items, demos, downloadable games and view all.
In downloadable games you have PSOne games playable on your PSP and eventually your PS3.
Now he's showing a new downloadable title called Blast Factory.
He added it to the cart. The cart shows the price and your "wallet" which shows how much money you have in the system.
The way you add funds is through your credit card or Playstation card.
The system lets you download the content up to five times. He doesn't say that it's for free, but that's the implication.
"We thnk the Playstation Store is the next generation of online gaming."
Now Harrison is going through some downloadable games.
He's showing the Motor Storm Demo download, which will be available at launch.
Wow, pretty amazing. Lots of trucks exploding and such.
Now back to the XMB (Cross media bar)
He's showing a game callled, Blast Factor that was written by five people.
It will be available on launch day for download and includes online play and such.
Hmmm, looks sorta like a watery version of Geometry War. No wonder it only took five people to make it. (I kid, I kid).
Cool you play in a big dish of water and by using the motion controlls you can flip over the dish sending out a shockwave.
Ah, Jaffe is taking the stage to show off Criminal Crackdown.
"This really represents the space I want to play in as a developer."
CC will be hitting in Feb. or March.
Tried to great a game that harkened back to the old days of multiplayer.
Love the graphics, very cel-shadey.
The object is to capture a criminal before anyone else does.
You can steal criminals from each others cars by ramming. It runs at 1080p and 60 fps.
Wow, he's showing a four player split screen. Looks very retro, very cool.
And it looks like that's a wrap. There's 20 to 30 games upstairs to check out.
Kaz is finishing things up.
"I think we have a really great line-up for day one."
"We've been keeping our cards pretty close to the vest on the Playstation Network, but we are very proud to bring it to fans."
