It looks like GameTap, Turner s pay-per-play cable gaming service, has launched a viral ad campaign.
The company set up a bunch of fake blogs (go figure) meant to give advice to video game characters making the leap from the virtual world to the real one, like where to land the latest in arm cannon upgrades or how to cope with an unexpected third dimension.
There's at least five sites out there:
- What is ADAT?: A site dedicated to people suffering from Third Dimensia
- Upgradius: Think Gizmondo for video game characters
- X-Treme Platform Jumping School: The name says it all
- First Person Get Aways: A travel agency that specializes in video game vacations
- Jalopixel: A game car site with a very Gawkerish name.
All five sites are chock-full of inside jokes, videos and pictures, and all eventually lead you to GameTap s official site with this message:
Well played. You found us out. That page you just came from? Not real. And there's more like it out there. You see, you've fallen prey to one of our little traps to make friends with the world. We want to be your friend.
Not so sure about this whole friendship thing. I have a feeling GameTap would fall into the only-call-you-up-for-a-hand-moving-the-couch variety.
