GameStop, just like Best Buy, is also sitting on their Wiis until this Sunday to help spur sales during the last full weekend before Christmas. An anonymous tipster who works for GameStop informed us that the memo came down Monday via the internal 'Store Informer' email system.

Having my own special connection at GameStop, I called my store to verify this. Yep, they've got 6 in stock that they aren't allowed to touch until the 17th. The store isn't allowed to tell anyone they are there, or that they will definitely be there on Sunday, pretty much forcing employees to lie to every Wii hopeful who walks through the door.

This really makes no sense to me. Seems that the whole point of retain is to sell things you have to people that want them. My guess is they know the information will get out and they want people piling into the store hoping for a console, perhaps sticking around to buy something else in case they don't snag one.
