The British Minister For Creative Industries, Shaun Woodward, has called for the UK to establish a "games academy". Looks like the government there is coming to the realisation that there's big, big money to be had in the video game industry, and where there's big money, I guess there's national pride at stake as well.
[The British games industry] is now recognising that 'actually we're huge, maybe we need to build our own institutional bricks'. You see television and films schools but we don't have a video-games school. Why not? Because [the sector] is so new. And yet we're the third largest manufacturer in the world. And that's the sense of catch up here.
Ah, see, the "sense of catch up". National pride is at stake. Britain must prevail, etc. Ah well, if it leads to grass-roots investment and serious recognition of the industry, who cares.
