Bally, former maker of fabulous pinball tables, has introduced something new the world of slots with its Skill Series line of machines, the first of which is based on the classic paddle game Pong. While most slot machines are based on nothing but chance, Pong breaks new ground with its skill-based pay outs. During a 45-second bonus round, a random occurrence, gamblers will be able to play a round of old school Pong. Performing better naturally gives you a higher pay out. Even if you're clueless behind the paddles, you'll still get something, but power Pong players may walk away with a bit more of their cash.
Reader Jason spotted a row of the new machines on the floor of the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, testing his Pong skills and sending us potentially drunken pics. The skill-based slots are slowly being approved in states that permit legalized gambling, with manufacturer Bally promising a follow up with a Breakout based slot machine.
If only they had one based on the arcade game Shinobi and not that horrid PlayStation 2 abomination I'd be a 7% richer man.

There seems to be the word Kotaku scrambled in the screen of the pong game in the pic.
Years back, I took a family trip to Atlantic City where my folks went to the slots and I went to the arcade. My dad joked to me, "There's a slim possibility that I'll get something back from putting the coins into the machine I play. When is it that you'll get money back from the ones you play?"
Well, 15 years later - I can finally say... "now." Maybe.
@emuc64:
Or you could've replied, "There's a huge possibility I will thoroughly enjoy the time I put into playing these games and come away satisfied. When is it that you'll get the money back that you lost and come away satisfied from the time you put into those slots?"
I'd like to play a video slot machine that suddenly turns into an FPS, and I have to mash buttons wildly to shoot down pixelated hustlers trying to grift me out of money.
Looks like it could be fun. Hopefully it will mosey its way up my way at some point.
I would imagine its only a matter of time before many video games/characters migrate their way to the slots. We've already seen House of the Dead, Shinobi, and Pac-man in recent years.
If they make a Mario slot machine I think my wallet would be in trouble.
I'm going to Vegas in December, I'll have to try this out.
oooh, skill-based gambling machines? That sounds like it'd be great for the customers but bad for the House.
Take classic Arcade machine..
Add Slot machine..
Hey, that's my idea!

@not_tom_brokaw: Skill based gambling is actually still illegal. Bally got around the restriction on this by limiting the maximum amount that a person can win in a given bonus game, making it no different than the "pick till you poop" bonus common on most video slots (in terms of regulation, at least).
I live in Vegas... I'm going to the MGM first thing tomorrow!
