Eternal Sonata is an RPG for the Xbox 360 coming from tri-Crescendo, creators of Baten Kaitos. The storyline is one of the most original concepts I've seen in the genre. Hours before the tuberculosis death of famous composer Fr d ric Chopin, he enters a dream world where people with terminal diseases have magical powers. The game features selections of Chopin's music played by Stanislav Bunin, which should go together wonderfully with the graphics here, which are nothing short of enchanting. With a plot steeped in tragedy and some of the most beautiful music ever created, be sure to have tissues on hand when the game launches later this year.

And good thing my boyfriend will be moving here soon, and will be bringing his 360. The game looks nice, and has an interesting story... plus classical music. Can't beat that. I'll probably buy it.
Looks gorgeous. Hopefully this and Blue Dragon will scratch my RPG itch, because Enchanted Arms just didn't do it for me.
That's how awesome Chopin's music is - you have to invent new adjectives to describe it properly (i.e."neautiful").
:D
The XBox finally getting some RPG loving? I like it!
I am not dependent on shiny graphics, but MAN, I gotta say, those people sure know how to craft a beautiful looking game. Baten Kaitos was also a beautiful game. Sounds unique, too.
I'll definitely have to check this game out if I own an X360 in the future.
Replace all the shooters with games like this one and you'll have success in Japan, Microsoft--not that it's as important as you think it is.
I haven't heard any news on this one in a while. It's coming along even better than I thought it would when I first heard their concept. I think I just might be excited for it now. ^_^
This game looks wonderful.
I've been debating wither to get an Xbox 360 or ps3 first (I'm sure eventually I'll own both), but the Japanese RPGs coming out for the 360 look pretty enticing. I may have to pick up a 360 first (and the price don't hurt much either)
Re - neautiful...sorry, I have a cold. :)
It's actually a word. It means full of neuty.
Isn't Tri-Ace the developer and Tri-Crescendo the musical branch? I are confused.
Also: woo Chopin!
Man, I have been looking forward to Trusty Bell for ALONG time now. More so then Blue Dragon. Hopefully this makes its way over here fast and sells well.
A dream world where people with terminal diseases have magical powers?
That just makes you want to get TB.
What an interesting concept!
It gives one pause.
From Wikipedia: "The company's (Tri-Ace) sound programmer Hiroya Hatsushiba formed tri-Crescendo in 1999 which has since independently developed Baten Kaitos."
Thanks. I knew the history of it, but thought that since Hatsushiba was in charge (and the name) it was an independent sound design firm. It seems odd to me that he would make a full-fledged game dev (I thought Tri-Ace did BK, to explain).
wow this game is looking fantastic. Not really an RPG fan, but im digging this one. Lets just hope it plats as good as it looks.
If they made Baten Kaitos I'll def have to get this game. I finally picked up BK and was amazingly surprised how much fun it is.
neautiful = nearly beautiful. antonym: algly (almost ugly)
This kind of oddball, freaky Japanese RPG is why I loved the PS2... if this keeps up, I'll end up having to get a 360 someday. Any chance this'll get ported to a system that Japanese people own?
Still, an odd premise... "*cough* *blood* Woo, I leveled!"
Chopin: Hello little girl, why are you here in this magical wonderland?
Little Girl: I've got AIDS!
Chopin: Woah, I hope you got a decent special power for that...
Thank god that they've already promised this game to us Westerners. Let's hope they stay true to their word.
All of the videos and screens from this seem to literally take my breath away. For me, this is what cel-shading was supposed to be when they came up with the idea. Finally, execution caught up with concept.
Way to get a whole game concept out of being too cheap to pay for original music :)
Seriously, looks nice.
Wow, so this is getting Westernised? Looking forward to it, here's hoping for a speedy European release!
@mfelps:
You mean your JRPG itch, since Oblivion was also an RPG.
Come and buy some of Tanut's famous flower powder!
Only if I get to snort it off your... Uh... Never mind.
Saw this at the TGS last year, and yes people its a damed beautiful game.
The combat was nice too.
Really looking foward to this title.
Really... just innovative concept. Amazing.
I really don't know what this game is about so I won't hate/love on it, but I'll just say that holy damn that is a colorful picture. It's like God himself vomited on canvas.
Also,
@arcsine:
She's like 8 dude.
You still want a piece of that ass?
Wow. Ditto on the originality...and interesting they announce its Westernization now, during what I have in the last hour learned is National Tuberculosis Week. (In all likelihood this was pure coincidence...unless everyone was aware of Nat'l TB Week but me?) I hope it really does make me cry. I like games that wrench an emotional reaction out of you other than "!$*@ pallies are so overpowered!" or "See that? See that? There, it's canon. Axel SO wants Roxas."
@Watership:
Fair enough. At 130 hours and counting, Oblivion definitely scratched my itch.
Update:
I just read up on it some more, and it does look like a very interesting game. I couldn't play it though. Little girls with terminal illnesses? That's too sad. Interesting path for the medium, however, it's nice to have a game coming out that may make you feel something.
It may also make a good game for patients of terminal illnesses, provided the man character(s), do not die. Maybe it would give people who suffer from the same things hope.
Eternal Sonata is such a generic name and had I not known of this game's apparent beauty, pedigree and greatness I would definitely not blind buy it.
They should have kept the name Trusty Bell.
If it plays as good as it seems, this is going to be one of those games that stays with you, and in the general gaming consciousness, for a long time
Oh man, this game looks really good. It does almost make me want to get a 360...
If I had a PS3 right now I'd be mad. Conventional wisdom would suggest that the best JRPGs would come out on the system Japanese people actually buy, right?
Those graphics are absolutely jaw-droppingly stunning.
@Polyh3dron:
actually i prefer Eternal Sonata...
it fits better than Trusty Bell...sounds like a movie about a life of a church bell...
