The Xbox 360 shmuppage continues as ArcSystemWorks readies Castle Shikigami III for release in Japan. The first Shikigami game was released in horribly neutered form in the states as Mobile Light Force II for the PS2, but the real star of the series so far has been Castle Shikigami 2, which was released with some of the worst Engrish of any last gen game. "Slaves for fashion dislike bulges!" That's for sure. Part of me wants the game released in the US with great voice acting and localization. The other part of me wants to see how bad it can get without it becoming painful. While I eagerly await news of a North American release, enjoy these twenty screenshots of the game in action.

Did scrolling shooter fan unite and sell their souls to Satan this week?
Isn't this also coming to the Wii?
Awesome! The first game was hard but I thought it was a lot of fun, and got a kick out of the awful voice acting, but it was so freakin' hard!
And I also heard that the game was coming out for Wii as well.
"I accept. I am Kim of two homes and seven moms."
There's almost too many of these coming already... They can't all be hits, can they?
There's never too many shooters!
thats great and all but her outfit is gorgeous and then they slap on the typical anime girl bullshit face. why must they ruin things like this?
Shikigami ni Shiro (or something like that) was on the first Xbox.
I wonder if this game will be region free?
Touhou is still better...
Damn. I really want X-Arcade to get that adapter out now for all these shooter releases coming out.
I'm quite glad that Microsoft is pushing these Japanese games to be released onto Xbox Live. Even if it doesn't catch on in Japan and help boost sales (undoubtedly it will to some small regards I'm sure though), it will cater to those in North America and Europe whom may be interested in more Japanese content on their beloved white boxes - me being one of them.
@Yetanotheruninspiredscreename: Ya, it's also coming to the wii.
@mr_dimsum: The number of Japaneses fans in American for this stuff is about equal to Japaneses FPS fans. Not a whole lot.
But if you touched on anything, it shows MS' commitment towards pushing their xbox in japan.
I'll probably pick up the Wii version when it's out. Fun games, but like ALTIMA NEO said, Touhou is still the best in the curtain-fire shooter genre. Too bad it doesn't seem like a Touhou console release will ever happen. :/
@Huginn: Indeed there is not a whole lot, especially an audience for side-scrolling shooters, but I was pointing to a more generalized picture really.. Anybody would be blind to disregard the Japanese' ability to make quality games, and good sellers at that. There is a very dedicated niche for the smaller software released from the land of the rising sun, and even the mainstream ones touch to casual audiences as well as those dedicated fans.. Something I find many development houses and publishers within North America and Europe have trouble replicating, minus anything branded Blizzard, Madden, or has some type of "WWII" theme to it.
@Kuraudo: Nah, if the Shmup fans did that, then DoDonPachi Campaign Version would be announced along with all of the other Shmups appearing lately.
I hope this comes with a PVC cat figure.
@Draconis: Announced for a console, that is.
Every new development makes me regret getting a Delaystation instead of an Xbox. *weeps*
"What is a man? A miserable little pile of secrets!"
That's the only awesome oldschoolish gameplay that I'll get, I think.
This news just makes me happy as all get out. Hopefully more shooters coming for me. :D
Sorry for being a postwhore, but I just remembered that I need to share this with you guys.

God, I want this game. If only for the hilariously poorly translated phrases that the American voice actors actually allow themselves to be recorded saying.
"Mr. President. Never forget the duty of an American. I pay taxes, work, and I always vote. This fight is for Japan. For friendship."
"It's idiot power!". Seriously, Castle Shikigami 2 got the shaft in terms of ironic Engrish appreciation. It's truly one of the best examples out there; almost puts Zero Wing to shame.
I've already played the hell out of it on PC, but I wholeheartedly recommend Shikigami 3 to anyone remotely interested in shmups. It's wonderful. I'd go as far as calling it the best non-Cave shmup made in the past few years.
What do I have to do to make this game come to America? Finally I will actually be buying my first XBLA game.
This is great news. I kept asking myself why no one has brought some shooters to XBLA. As a fan of Shikigami no Shiro I can't wait to play this. And if it gets localized I may finally know what the hell is going on other than shoot everything and dodge everything.
@Jesu: and others...
Are you sure this is an XBLA game? If it is that could be an incredible deal, but it looks like a full (perhaps budget priced) retail release to me.
@slacker164:
And this screenshot has Wii Remote buttons. While I guess it's a dual release, these are definitely Wii screenshots.
And... WHOAMG. Nagino Ise has a Bubble Bobble backpack! She is officially now my favorite character of this game I have yet to play.
That is a nice backpack. I'd pay for one!
I loved the voice acting in Castle of Shikagami 2. It sounded like a speak n' say.
A friend of mine reviewed the arcade version:
