If you weren't glued to the television yesterday, drooling over my appearance on G4's Attack of the Show, here's your chance to salivate like a mad dog over manly discussion on console exclusivity. The Loop segment features me, EGM's Shane Bettenhausen and host Kevin Periera talking about the PLAYSTATION 3, Xbox 360, Final Fantasy XIII, Devil May Cry 4 and Ace Combat 6. 386 points worth of console debate!
Highlights to watch out for include me nervously flip-flopping about whether timed exclusives matter and me saying there are "10 to 20 Xboxes out there." Oops! Meant millions! I supposed Kevin's jokes and Shane's crazy-eyed, level-headed logic are worth it, but the fun part is watching me panic on live television. Now, make with the ban-worthy comments!

Comments
I must say that you are much cooler than I expected you to be. You have the EGM guy beat by a landslide.
*ban worthy comment*
I enjoy most of "the Loop" segments, but I wish they were longer, like 20 minutes. Lots of points never get brought up in such a short period of time.
Good shit man, I always thought you look like you keep your cool pretty good, like your a natural on tv lol.
"Shane's crazy-eyed, level-headed logic"
Bettenhausen? What!?!
ha ha, you suck.
just like john kerry. I'm ashamed of you mike!
naw, really did a good job.
potential ban-worthy commet alert:
Next time you're on please ask them why they killed tech tv. Bring back tech tv and then maybe I'll watch that station again so far its been over two years since I last tuned in. Interesting clip though.
@CollapseControl: We were a little pressed for time yesterday and ended a little early. Still, I'll pass on the feedback when I can!
Ah-ha, there's the look of sheer terror in full motion. It's even better than the still picture from yesterday.
Jeez, I get nervous just speaking to my local radio station and that's only heard by, at the most, 10,000 people. I tend to give lots of descriptions with my hands... Not good for radio...
I came.
Edit: except for xplay on occassion as I channel surf. You should do xplay. Oh yeah they don't usually have guests. Except that time they had batman, Adam West, on a while ago.
well u would not have beeen pressed for time if they didnlt spend freaking 15 mins trying to shatter a damn cd. like wow. put it in the microwave its cooler. look ma it sprakles
Lefty
@cowbell:
Y'know, you want TechTV back, come to Canada. The Canadian G4 is still G4TechTV, even if the only TechTV show worth mentioning that I can think of on the network is Call For Help.
Shane. Shane? Hey Shane! Camera's over here, Shane.
Good one Kermet I uh mean Shane.
When I first heard that, I thought they were planning to make a watered down version for the PSP. Most professionals usually don't announce the bad news, they announce the good. Dropping hints that you're gonna lose the biggest exclusive you have isn't a great thing to do.
You always do well in interviews. At least you kept your eyes open and looked at the camera, that's half the battle. Shane I think had his eyes closed 60% of the time he talked and was looking everywhere but at the camera.
Mike, are you originally from LA?
The best part was Kevin calling Shane "Dan" at the end. Way to go Pereira
@calciofool: No, I'm from all over this great nation. Just been in LA since November.
@aurahack: Not really Kevin's fault. Shit happens!
Dude, Mike, you dominated the EGM guy as far as camera ettiquette is concerned. Thank you for looking at the camera, and for not nodding your head and closing your eyes every two seconds- it was crazy-distracting when Shane did it.
Oh yeah, and you were much more composed and your ideas better thought out, as well. If this were a debate, he'd have been crying by the end. Good job, you won even when it wasn't a competition.
I thought Shoe was supposed to be there! I wanted to hear his soothing, soothing voice. Shane was really reasonable... Respect.
And respect to you, as well.
I'm surprised there was little talk of the games that are remaining exclusive in Microsoft's corner... Bioshock, Alan Wake... etc.
Strange the way the word "Nintendo" is never spoken. In a discussion about the importance of exclusives, you'd think they'd be a given.
Don't worry McWhertor, G4 is consistently ranked as the least watched channel on basic cable!
I lost faith in third party exclusives after Resident Evil 4. Finally, I thought, the Gamecube had a kick ass third party title that it needed.
Then it was ported to PS2 and now PC. Oh well.
Nice job, I really enjoy these segments. Never commented on it, but your last AotS appearance was excellent as well.
-nesdude
you looked like a deer in headlights...
im not going to like, i lol'd when the 20-30 xboxs like finally came out.
i wouldnt have gotten such a kick out of it, except that reading your comments about how nervous you were or whatever just really made me smile.
good job though, it was an interesting interview, for sure.
@McWhertor:
How do you like it? I lived up there for about a year. Right off Sunset and La Brea. I'm in the OC now but sometimes I miss living up there. Have you been to any shows at the Hollywood Bowl? I saw Sigur Ros there once and it was so rad. I think they had the Video Games Live perform there once or twice as well. Good ol' City of Angels. :)
The 10-20 Xboxes comment couldn't have been timed better. A classic.
It's times like these I'm proud to call myself a Kotakuite.
@calciofool: Been good to me so far! I moved from the icy depths of Boston, Mass and haven't looked back. No shows for me yet, as I'm getting OLDER and CRANKIER and shows generally bum me out. :(
I dunno what you're worried about, you did just fine for live TV.. at least you were able to keep your eyes open!
You where a little nervous and it was noticeable... but you answered prety wisely.
Anyway it was fun to see you on TV. :)
Sorry Mike but Blue Dragon and Whatcamacallit RPG ain't cutting it for JPNes gamers. Sony and Nintendo have Japan. EU and US are the new battle grounds.
@McWhertor:
Yeah it's not all that bad out here. I lived in Chicago for awhile so I know how much the freezing cold can suck. The winters were torturous there and I had to walk a good mile or so to work. Well, hopefully you guys do one of those get togethers out here sometime. Would be fun to drink with you bunch.
Good job on the Tele, Shane's animation was a bit off, like he had parkinson's or something, he doesnt act like that on the 1up podcast.
Jeez Mike, you made ME nervous for you even before I watched the segment. Without picking yourself apart pre-emptively, I wouldn't have been watching so acutely to see those mix-ups you had already described.
You done GOOD!
This is not Muesli -_-
Seriously though, that was a very good point you raised there regarding the 10-20 xboxes ;) aside from some titles that just wouldn't translate well outside Japan like pachinko ones, I think we will see a far greater trend towards multiplatform releases from Japanese developers in future as they attempt to milk that installbase.
Haha, I did get awfully confused there with the Xboxs! Surely they sold more? ;)
Nice to know you're human, just like us (dear God!).
I hate making choices. Soon i'm going to have to choose between 360 ahievements in games or PS3 trophies. DAMNIT!!!
I wish I could watch G4, but alas, it is not part of my cable lineup. Good segment, though.
Nice flinch at the end. I like that.
:D
"Next time you're on please ask them why they killed tech tv"
They bought TechTV because TTV was in more homes than G4 was in at the time...NOT for the programming which they quickly gutted or killed all together.
I know. I was there.
Cool stuff Mike, good points brought up.
The discussion of exclusivity in games seems to be centered on the two power-house consoles it seems, since the 360 and PS3 have newer technology (in terms of sheer processing power) that appeal to hardcore gamers.
So there's a new kind of battle in the console wars, the fight for game exclusivity. (Which apparently Nintendo is sitting this fight out)
You look like you were tired though. All night gaming playing PoR I guess :)
"10 to 20 Xboxes" what blastphemy!!
Anyway I think 3rd party developers are realizing that the 360 has a sick attach rate. Don't know why but Xbox owners buy a lot of games (achievement wh0res maybe).
Gears has sold to more than 30% of the 360 population. Titles like FFXIII can do the same thing. They don't need a big user base in Japan to make money on titles like these that got worldwide appeal. It just makes sense to bring the big titles to 360.
@dadeisvenm: And by Sony and Nintendo, you just mean Nintendo.
Is it me, or does Shane look like a blind person when he talks? He's doing that hard blinking and looking everywhere except the camera.

The tech tv sperit livs on!!
Also Mike and Dan...WTF!!!
Anyway good interview.
Well, I already commented in the other thread on this topic, but I might as well say that I thought you did a good job with what you had to work with. Unfortunately, this wasn't a well-moderated Loop by Kevin. It seemed that the answers to the questions were all obvious, as if you were taking a quiz. The best Loop segments are the ones in which you can have a good debate, and this just wasn't one of those. Losing exclusives = bad. Next topic.
@vincevl: ha.
that was my laugh for the day.
all i have to say is you did better than i would have on tv. [:
Great job Mike (may I call you Mike?). You did seem a bit nervous, but no more than any one else I have seen on live TV, and much less than I assume I would be in that situation. You brought up a lot of good points and argued (I use the term loosely as everyone seemed to be in mild agreement about everything) your points well. Great job! My only complaint is that it didn't go on longer.
mike, you actually look very .....sexy. Liking the stache.......I'm a male. [dont ban me!!!!]
Huh. I'm impressed; Pereira actually seemed somewhat professional. He actually seemed like he knew what he was talking about.
Leaps and bounds from when I watched. Too bad it's almost not at all about tech anymore.
TWiT FTW!
