Just got a press release saying a Big Lebowski bowling game was in the works. Cue me high-fiving myself. Thing is, sometimes, I read press releases and get ahead of myself. Turns out this is a mobile phone bowling game, and it's a bowling game with a wafer-thin veneer of Lebowski applied to it.
I don't like having my hopes dashed like that. Still, the name might be good for a warm, fuzzy feeling if you're that into the movie, so the press release is after the jump.
Let The Good Times Roll With Ojom's The Big Lebowski Bowling Game
(Berlin & London, 15th May 2007): Ojom GmbH, a leading creator and global publisher of mobile games, today announced the launch of The Big Lebowski Bowling. Taking its title from the cult classic movie and featuring the 'The Dude' himself, Jeffrey Lebowski, this homage to ten-pin bowling gives mobile gamers the chance to test their bowling skills and take part in competitions.
Fans of bowling and aficionados of the movie will relish the challenge of taking on some of the game's larger than life characters, in a series of 10 frame duels to win the tournament. Despite the backdrop to the film and the references to the nuances of the dude's character this is still a straight game of bowling. So get ready to roll and build up steady score of double and triples to reach the magic 300 - a perfect game. Each shot has a power level for speed and precision, it also has a spin function that helps you avoid rolling into the gutter, a technique that makes you look really skilful too.
The game has a quirky additional feature that will be familiar to fans of the movie, when you increase your score and progress to the next round you can treat 'The Dude' to a 'White Russian' cocktail. The barman is a fountain of knowledge providing you with hints and tips about how to outwit your opponents and tells you when to take it easy with the White Russians. Be careful as one or two can relax your bowling arm and improve your game, but drinking too much can severely affect the way you play.
The game play is enhanced by a 3D perspective that allows you to see the damage that your bowling ball inflicts on the pins as it crashes into the pocket. The setting of the game is based on the classic image of a bowling alley straight out of 1950s America which adds to the authenticity of the tournament.
Marc Bu e, Channel Manager, of Ojom GmbH, said: "This is a really enjoyable game that encapsulates the challenge and excitement of ten pin bowling underpinned by a fictional character that has become synonymous with bowling - 'The Dude.' The quirky characters give the game a comedy element that we hope that fans of the movie and bowling will appreciate and enjoy."
Big Lebowski Bowling is the latest addition to Ojom's growing repertoire of mobile games inspired by films. The game is now available on operator portals across Europe. www.ojom.com.
