Sony exec Izumi Kawanishi talks Linux, and hints that the PS3 will be homebrew friendly. Currently, Sony rams firmware updates down PSP user's throats, eliminating handheld homebrews. "Because we have plans for having Linux on board [the PS3], we also recognize Linux programming activities," says Kawanishi. "Other than game studios tied to official developer licenses, we'd like to see various individuals participate in content creation for the PS3."
For everyone annoyed at the way Sony's has tried to stamp out homebrews on the PSP, this comes as a breath of fresh air. Fingers crossed that Sony doesn't next shove a firmware update down Kawanishi's throat.
