What could be better than Capcom bringing back Bionic Commando? How about Street Fighter IV? Games Radar is reporting from the Capcom Gamer's Day in London that the 4th game in the series has been officially confirmed. A stylized trailer of Ken and Ryu fighting was shown, but no actual gameplay footage, and while development has started the game is still more than a year away for whatever platform it ends up coming out on, Still, we can all rest easy that it is indeed on the way.
Along with this amazing news, Capcom also announced Lost Planet for the PS3, a new Ace Attorney game for the Nintendo DS featuring and new main character, and an all-new sci-fi action adventure game called Dark Void. It takes a special kind of company to wait 20 years from the release of the original game to finally get to number four in the series. I can't wait for the year 2012, when we'll be playing Super Street FIghter IV Hyper Mega Hologram Remix. Yum.
Street Fighter 4 announced! [Games Radar - Thanks Paul!]

Comments
Bleh. PS3 fans should hand back Capcom their Lost Planets and demand some Dead Rising instead. LP bored me to tears. Yes, I cried.
... that's it. World's ending soon. The last sign of the apocalypse has come.
Happy day---so long as it's not a DS exclusive or something horrendous like that.
yes! i'm glad they actually delivered with the announcement. i'm going to go bake a cake now.
@Super Street FIghter 4 Hyper Mega Hologram Remix - sounds awesome
Ha!!!
HA!!!
Finally!
...
It's gonna suck!
Seriously though, I really, reallllly hope it's a 2D fighter. If not... see above.
No bloody way. Pics or it didn't happen! I will not allow my emotions to be toyed with without photographic proof!
And isn't the new Ace Attorney game the fourth in the series, Apollo Justice? Or have they already begun work on Gyakuten Saiban 5?
@Toasticus: I would much rather have Dead Rising :(
But I am excited for Street Fighter 4!
a new Ace Attorney game for the DS featuring and new main character
Wait, you mean another new one? Or the same one that's been out in Japan for like a year?
I guess the Ace Attorney game they announced is just the western release of Gyakuten Saiban 4...
Who's going to make SF4? Has Capcom been secretly hiring master game designers to replace its long-departed fighting game teams?
I hope this ushers in another renaissance for Fighting Game Aficionados like myself.
Consider my pants completely ruined.
Lost Planet was ok, Dead Rising WOULD have been better though. Lost Planet is stil a good game, with a nice multiplayer as well.
Meh, ok news i guess. Lost Planet?? Come on, PS3 usuers must be tired of getting all these games late. But this does mean that Capcom will most likely release LP2 on the PS3. Maybe even DR2.
Street Fighter 4 eh? I wonder if it will be 2D or will they make the jump to 3D. While I love 2D games, espesially fighters, i think that making a fighter 3D is the way to go. The tech we have today should make for a great fighting expereince.
Andhe Drk Void game seems pretty interesting. Who does not like jetpacks??
Five bucks that the first SFIV screenshot contains a Sheng Long hoax.
BWWWWWWWWWARGHLE!!
Heh. Are Ryu and Ken old men now? Or have beards and some sort of gray hair? Would be great if time passed in the story that much for them to be at least in their fifties.
Best news of the year, even beats sonic in ssbb.
@Mokona: Yeah and that's a good thing :D
Yeah...I'm gonna have to assume SF4 will suck until I see definitive proof to the contrary, as I'm not a fan of either the Alpha series or SF3. Not that those games were completely bad, but they also weren't close to being very good IMO. It doesn't have to be SF2-like, but it would be nice if Capcom brought something different to the table than their last dozen fighting games. We'll see.
Sweet, but is that all? I remember reports saying that PS3 fans would have something to be happy about from Capcom this week, and all we get is a port?
Don't get me wrong, it's extremely cool that it's coming, but that's it? No Megaman Legends 3? My heart is officially broken.
I've never been much into Street Fighter, so the announcement of that doesn't really tug at my heart strings really. But hey, it'll be something else to play. Besides, I know that there are plenty of people that wanted this.
Big question: Is it still 2d? I know they only showed stylized concept footage, but did they say anything else? I can't imagine it making that transition, even after 20 years.
SF4... Why am I not more excited about this? Maybe it's that feeling of dread that it will be some sort of offshoot that has nothing to do with the people who developed the previous games, with only the number 4 to legitimize it. I'm gonna need to see proof.
Wow, Street Fighter 4. It almost sounds surreal when you speak the words as a fact and not speculation.
Wait, so they made a big deal about Bionic Commando Hot Dog Arm and they just mention in passing SF4? What the hell! That news is HUGE in my books! They have a high bar to jump over now after SF3 and even the Guilty Gear series. I can't wait to see what it looks like and even what new characters there will be and who will return. My bet is on...
Ryu
Ken
Alex
Chun Li
Akuma
Sean
Ibuki
I do hope that Oro makes it back since he was my favorite. Crazy one arm fight'n man!
I need to go play some SF3 right now!
...
stupid job... >_<
And suddenly, 360 fanboys are going to start hating lost planet.
I'm hoping it stays 2d. 1080P sprites with 60 fps animation would look great. Or 3d with a cell shader and 2d gameplay.
I am such a huge SF fan that I'll anticipate this every day until it comes out. I can only hope they make an arcade board for the game for my stand-up JAMMA. It just feels wrong to play fighting games on a console for me. And hire back some of the guys that did SF2/3!
@Toasticus:
Heh thats funny cause I own both Lost Planet and Dead Rising for the 360 and feel the exact same way about Dead Rising's poor game design (save system, timer design in a sandbox game, controls etc). Though Lost Planet was more straightforward I did enjoy it more than Dead Rising. At least it didnt take an awesome concept and screw it up with questionable game design decisions. IGNs review of Dead Rising was probably the most spot on write up that I've seen... and it only got a 7.8. Lost Planet is an 8/10 in my opinion and a nice addition to the PS3 library.
Maybe they learned something from the sales of the umpteen Street Fighter 2 re-re-releases recently. Let's hope so, it's still one of the tightest and best balanced fighting games around.
@s]-[iO_keN: 3D? Really? The EX series didn't leave a salty-enough taste in your mouth. 2D for life.
Best news of the year. I just hope that they amke it 2D and somehow maneged to get their old 2D fighting teams together for this new release. And yes, I just crapped myself at work. Dammit Capcom! :O
It sucks that the PS3 is getting Lost Planet instead of Dead Rising. Dead Rising is 100x better then Lost Planet. But then again, STREET FIGHTER 4! Oh and it sucks that Turbo HD Remix got set back to 2008.
how about street fighter 2010 for NES?
@Kyle81: I've hated it for a long time. Ask TheIrishNinja.
Ugh, when will Capcom go back to Breath of Fire? Still, good to hear about SF4.
I feel awful.
I never like Street Fighter. Should I just leave? :P
Kinda excited though. Not a fighter fan, but I'll give this a go.
Maybe they'll make it in 3D and give everyone dreadlocks!!
*liked. Damn you non-existent edit button!
Hopefully they have more inspired character designs this time around. SF3: Third Strike had amazing gameplay potential but horribly boring designs.
Any guesses as to how many versions of SF4 we'll eventually end up with? =P
I liked Lost Planet a lot, but Dead Rising is the much better game. From the sounds of it, Capcom seem to be trying to make LP a new franchise while leaving DR as a one-hit-wonder. Shame.
Lost Planet-good
Street Fighter4-excellent
Dark Void-promising
Ace Attorney-why?
@Amuro1X: They are supposed to be having more announcements coming still.
Pics or STFU! I want to believe but must be certain.
@Synced: Yeah, kinda like everything else Udon has a hand in. -_-#
Well, I'm sort of pissed because my pre-order form Megaman Zero Complete Works was pushed back AGAIN to February. It was supposed to be out in April. OF THIS YEAR!!
But I digress....
I really hope Street Fighter 4 goes on both the 360 and the PS3. And where did you hear that Turbo HD remix got delayed to 2008 Synced? I'm not saying I dont believe you but that's news to me. The delay sucks but at least that will give Capcom enough time to implement rumble into the gameplay.
Man, I feel like a complete douche right now. Just the other day, I was having an argument with a friend over whether or not there was ever going to be a Street Fighter 4, with me taking the position that it wasn't going to happen; at least, not any time soon. Seems I've been proven wrong.
Hope they take the time to update the sprites to HD. This could be incredibly awesome.
I guess all those letters worked :3
@ceilingFANBOY: Thanks, I just read that up somewhere else. My heart is literally in a knot hoping for MML3. Capcom basically slapped fans in the face by showing off a new Rockman DASH (MML) game at TGS, but it is for fucking cell phones. ughh.
FINALLY.
I'm too excited to even think straight right now, lol...
This news makes me happy, if only because it means more (new!) Street Fighter coming in the future.
What fills me with worry is that Capcom USA runs the SF series now and a great deal of the developers who worked on SF2 are long gone. I don't even know if the Alpha or SF3 guys are still around, as the last SF game came out like 8 years ago.
I also HATED the new characters in SF3. Their designs just sucked and totally failed to live up to the iconic World Warriors. I'm totally convinced that is a huge reason that SF3 was a flop.
I wonder if this will be an arcade release or just straight to a console.
Now THAT is how a megaton announcement is made. It comes out of nowhere, no warning, just drop the bomb and call it a day. I just want to see some damn shots of it!
i don't know one which is more shocking... this or HxH 261.
@tkshredder: We shall never speak of that game again. It NEVER existed. ;_;
@Providence: I'm guessing 3, the original, plus 2 marginal updates with 1-2 extra characters and slightly re-balanced gameplay.
Still though, here's hoping for "Street Fighter 2' Ultra Guts Rainbow Octane Tournament of Ultimate Meritorious Fighting Challenge Spar Tournament 2008: World Warrior's Clash - Omega Arts++ Collection, Giga Beat Style -ism, v.2.8 REMIX: Fateful Brawl" to be a smashing success ^^
This may sound really nerd, way nerd, hell, screw it: I just cried in front of my computer! This is awesome! :D
@Gagamus:
"Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD (Xbox Live Arcade)
The game will feature a spectator mode and is scheduled for a 2008 while the team try and get zero lag for the online mode. Also features stat tracking and widescreen. Original music from Street Fighter 2 will be used, plus remixed versions of all those tunes."
I'm not sure what to say except that I'm pretty excited already.. Words can't explain!
@Amuro1X: Yea, it was on PS3Fanboy. I swear this article wasn't here when I had emailed tips about Lost Planet (they had it broken into several different articles rather than a mega post), it must have just disappeared for a while seeing as comments and articles have a habit of disappearing and then reappearing and changing order these days on the Gawker network.
Capcom can put Lost Planet on the PS3, but not Okami on the Wii?? What has this world come to?
Between the Bionic Commando & SF4 announcements though, I guess I can deal with Capcom's decisions... ONLY IF Hitler is the final boss in the new Bionic Commando. :P
BTW, Lost Planet is supposed to come with all of the add ons and online play.
WOW I hope this is on the Wii cuz it doesn't look like the HD guys want it. I hope we also get to use at least 4 controller options to play! I just get the feeling the HD kids will shit on this game really bad...
I...I can't believe this. yes!!!!
Capcom USA owns Street Fighter, so this is obviously a concern that it's not going to be Japanese developed. Also I have no doubt that after SFII HD, they will probably try to have UDON do the sprite work for 4.... if its still 2D fighter...
@LowerHouseMember: More like six months, but yes, I think that's the one they're referring to.
HUZZAAAAAH!!!! Capcom finally learnt which number comes after 3. I hope now they can count all the fingers on at least one of their hands as well. I hope they don't stop with street fighter they got other fighting games that have yet to get past 2
@megahurtz: WOW really America has this one... oh helll here we go never mind! I'll wait till screen shots and game play vids... DAMN YOU GUYS!
