Fatal1ty Heading to Primetime via 60 Minutes

fatal1ty.jpg

William from GameCore rang the Kotaku red phone this afternoon alerting us to Jonathan "Fatal1ty" Wendell's Sunday night appearance on 60 Minutes. GameCore has a preview of the episode up where Wendell attributes part of his training for cyberathleticism to good ol' fashioned physical fitness. Check your local listings to see when 60 Minutes airs on Sunday and set your TiVo.

  • Oh, great, that is all we need is some "Tony Hawk" of gaming. Does anybody view this as a good thing?

  • Why does he look like a sad puppy when in fact he's trying to look "cool". Compare this picture http://www.desertrosemusings.com/gallery/animals/thumbnail... to the headline picture. haha

  • Well, I work out 6 days a week, and my 15 cousin beats me in Mario Party 7 minigames. Does he mention what kind of training can make you faster?

  • I'm sure he will be on screen for about 2 seconds, while Super Christian Fearmonger Soccer Mom will get to scream her "Videogames are Satan's Pornography" rhetoric for 15 minutes.

  • No...

  • I cant imagine he has anything interesting to say, which is probably why we will see 4 minutes of voice over stock footage, and 30 seconds of face time. Its easy to visual the way the link reads. Thats still pretty cool though. Who is Steve Kroft? I would have been slightly disappointed not to be sitting down with Ed Bradley or Mike Wallace.

  • If he can teach me how to use a controller for FPS instead of a keyboard/mouse I will watch...

  • I've read the script. There's nothing BAD about gaming anywhere in it. The primary focus of it is, obviously, Wendell; but, it also talks a bit about the World Cyber Games and what the possible future of cyber-athleticism is. No screaming mothers. No Jack Thompsonish craziness.

  • I just got word from someone at GameRevolution.com that their video game violence article will be cited, or might be cited, somewhere in the piece.

  • lol @ his "bad boy" / constipated look

  • damn! he's Gangsta!

  • That guy has always struck me as being a complete tool.

  • C'mon, you can't begrudge the guy getting his 15 minutes. The guy's just making the most of what is likely to be a short-lived fad of professional video gaming. I'd do the same thing. And yes, I'd probably wear the same constipated look and spikey hair too. It goes with the fame.

  • wow. look at all the haters. ^^^^ Apparently weatherman is still grounded though. Having met Wendel at a couple tournies, I can honestly say that he's a very nice kid. Down to earth and friendly. He doesn't brag, and gets as pschyed as anyone watching the competition. The constipated look is probably a "I hate having to do this stupid photo shoot, and why the hell do we have to do this so many times?" Preping for TV exposure is enough to drive anyone mad.
