I'm hanging out at the NetDevil offices and was lucky enough to get my hands on this copy of their trailer for the upcoming LEGO mmo. Keep in mind, this is just a concept, but it's a damn cool concept. More to come, plus, I think, a LiveBlog tonight in about an hour or so.

Looks neat. I hope the combat and camera are a little better than Lego Star Wars.
Hoo boy
I love me some Legos. My childhood was a steady diet of Legos , Playmobil and G.I. Joes. Might have to check this out. I'm crossing my fingers that this includes the outer space set.
Is it sad that no MMORPG has ever gotten me interested in the genre... but this has?
Oh btw where can I check out that live blog?
The potential is strong with this one.
To what system is this coming, PC, 360, ps3 ?
For this to be great, their need to be countless possible combinations (10 different face, torso, leg styles does not cut it, hell, even 20 won't), one of the worst things that can happen (in this specific game) is to see identical people running around in identical "gear" as well as similar towns and cities.
I mean, come on, it's fucking LEGO. I should be able to customize items as well as my character till Shakespearre and Jesus Christ rise from the dead and challenge me to Dance Dance Revolution.
I can't tell if they intend this to be a more typical MMO in the vein of UO/EQ/WoW, but I think it might be great as a Second Life-esque social... game... thing. The potential for building custom homes and cars and every conceivable permutation of little Lego people is exciting.
@dphrygian:
sounds like little big planet
@mowh:
Jesus would challenge you to MKDD, and he throws down the blue sparks.
IS it just me or did it look like he was wearing Saiyan Battle armor at first?
White vest with the yellow part on the stomach and blue everything else?
They sound like jawas.
Hate To Be The 'Big LEGO Nut Here', But The LEGO Corp REALLY Hates It When People Call Them 'Legos', It's 'LEGO Bricks'.. (really, try 'legos.com'.. it's not as mean as it used to be)..
Second, The 'Little Lego Dudes' Are 'Mini-Figs'..
boy, that was a whole bunch of geekery.. not as much as the grown men out there who have elaborate, massive, lego sets that they show off at lego-related events..
ANYWAYS, Cannot Wait To See The Actual Game! Let's All Pray NetDevil Doesn't Fook This Up..
@RagingTowers: Yep. Watch for the lawsuits.
It looks like it could have some potential, but not for me...
@Nymo: I tried the website. Why am I seeing manga?
So this is like Blockland, only official?
looks great!!!
lego's!!!
Is that a Rockets jersey I see? Interesting...
Also, I realy hope the voices are tweaked before the game is complete.
@Judgment:
They sound like jawas.
I was thinking Ewoks, but yeah. Kinda irritating, but the game itself looks neat.
i'm diggin' the voices.
Why are they speaking simlish?
Hooray! I hope this comes out as great as it should. It could be a landmark title, if done right.
If there is no Blacktron, I'm not in. Blacktron 4 life!
What's with the Dragon Ball Z armor? Last I checked, there weren't any Dragon Ball Z Legos.
Damn...there should be, though. That would be awesome.
ok, this looks pretty intriguing.
I may give a shot depending on workload
@RagingTowers:
Holy Sh*t! It is!
Also the shirt that would be put on next looks familiar...
I liked the darkling battle, can't wait to be
smashed into little pieces. I hope that with each blow you take a part of you might fall off, that would be cool and also logical (If someone's going to slash you across the neck with a claymore, I'm pretty sure your head is going to come off).
looks so good... hopefully you can build anything you want. maybe even build a t-rex and ride it around town?
Oh my god, if you can make whatever you want with the many parts of the lego universe....ah crap...that would make me HAPPY. No pre-set building templates, no no. I've wanted a lego game where you have infinate possiblities like having a big box of every lego piece you could want and just build something. "Oh, the places you'll go!"
@Banana Kid
I was thinking the same thing. When I saw the armor, I thought "Holy....Vegeta?!"
hmm, lego MMO, Great time to relive my childhood. say hello to thousands of hours of game play.
Seriously tho, I mean if they have a base program
followed up by the numerous theme series. This franchise could go on forever if they find a good enough game purpose. I mean imagine, playing as lego Batman, ha ha.
Best route they can take is to simply let the user choose and match each individual detail (face, mouth, eyes - similar to that of the Wii) of their character instead of going with premade pieces. Color kits, color kits, color kits. It's "impossibly" crucial.
Lego? MMO? Giant lego robots? combat? blow brick? build INIFITIEY? I'm in......though I hope the combat is action based
One other thing: that last scene was BRUTAL. AO rating anyone?
:-P
I clicked on the comments to see someone correcting someone else for using the term "legos" and I was not dissapointed.
I can't wait to see how this turns out. I'm almost tempted to go out and buy a set.
@BananaKid:
Hell yeah thats sayian battle armor. I hope they are having DBZ legos!
Hopefully they turn this into SL with Lego. That would be the greatest thing ever.
Lego sex. Teehee.
love it! gratuitous E-rated decapitation!!!
finger crossed that this would be free... pleeease (IMO, most MMORPG pay structures are not designed for the casual gamer, or the gamers with not enough time to devote into such a genre)
cool saiyan armor. And i believe thats a Yao Ming Jersey. Hopefully that shows the diverse customization options that will be in the final game.
Looks great. I wonder which franchises will be included (ie. Star Wars, Bionicle etc.)
@joshtruction:
Probably not Star Wars or any of the non-Lego franchises, as I doubt the licensing fees would be worth it.
i hope this game has every lego brick type and piece ever made available. Otherwise ill be pissed.
@MonkeyBiz:
I think I speak for every oldschool LEGO nerd when I say: DO NOT WANT.
Legos aren't supposed to talk.
How did this get up here?!
I moved it. That's how much I love it!
Oh, and man should you see their real world LEGO stash, they have literally thousands of bricks, perhaps tens of thousands. They actually have a LEGO stack, like in a library with shelves upon shelves of cartons filled to the brim with LEGOs. Amazing to see.
8o I heart life right now!
That's it. There's my next MMO. I left Warcraft because I wanted something different, and there it is.
If it can be anywhere near as clever as that, I'm in.
@crecente: I didn't know if I were seeing things or what! I'm now super excited for this game.
No Exploriens, no me playing it! Actually, I would settle on any space theme so long as it isn't just Star Wars. Sometimes I think Lego's forgotten about their own amazing lineup of IP...
Also, if this is anything like Blockland, they should find a way to fix the tremendous amounts of slowdown that occurs when you have a ton of people laying down thousands of bricks everywhere.
I hope this is going to be very Lego-y. For example, can you build your own house and your own vehicles out of Lego blocks? Everyone driving around in his own personal Lego car which he built himself out of Lego blocks would be so awesome... This should be more along the lines of Animal Crossing than a "normal" online game. More exploring, less quests.
The humour looks really good, i hope it does well.
Vegeta, what does the scanner say about that lego guy's power level?!
@DefenderShip: It's off the charts. He has reached a level beyond the level beyond Super Saiyajin.
If they have the space sets from the 90's I'll be all over this, if not I'm not so sure.
Looks nice! Can't wait for it!
@Nymo:
It's the same trademark defense crap that causes legal departments everywhere to put out anal retentive bullcrap. Adobe legal doesn't like it when you use photoshop as a verb - "It's a Proper Noun™!"
Point is, they're legos and no one cares hat Lego Legal wants us to append the word 'bricks' to that every time.
Second life with more childhood and less child porn.
@eakolb: And saddly abobe's gonna lose that one.
@DefenderShip: That LEGO is OVER 9000!!!!!
I would love this game. But it's against my religion to pay for subscriptions to games.
When it shows the street view of the city, is that a LEGO Lakitu (from mario)flying around?
why do americans always call lego "legos"? Lego is a resource, like grain. You have a box of lego. There is not such thing as "legos".
Americans dont call 'Lego' 'Legos', uuuluuu. Its PARENTS that call it Legos.
Gyah. Parents.
I now declare The Funky Space Pyramid of the People open for business!
@OtakuboyT: Heh Robot Chicken :P
@uuuluuu: Uh, I think people call Legos blocks "Legos" in most countries and most languages. They do in German.
