Game Developers Conference goers are getting a chance to check out a nice game inspired art show at Start Soma, San Francisco s gallery for emerging artists and collectors. The Video Game Art Show will include the works of artists like Mars-1, Plasticfucker and Tim Gaskin as they explore the iconic connections between video games and New Art. The show kicks off at Start Soma on Thursday.

The Video Game Art Show is an homage to the thumb muscle building mechanisms that babysat us in the seventies and eighties. All the artists in this show had a literal connection to video games - so it's not surprising that old-school gaming iconography should show up in their art. In turn, they continue to re-invent the aesthetics that interactive designers look to as 'cutting edge.' The connections between New Art and video games cannot be overstated.

The show s curator said the display will include networked games, wall projections, a gaming cinema and best yet, the Suicide Girls and some 8-bit bands will be hosting the kick-off party. Hot!
