Germany's ratings board, the USK (Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle—say that three times straight!), is banning Capcom's eagerly anticipated zombie-hackfest Dead Rising. The Xbox 360 exclusive is viewed as too violent for peaceful Deutschland, an odd presumption for anyone who's ever seen German soccer. Odder still, considering that the USK approved the uber violent Carmageddon, in which players drove over zombie pedestrians for points.

Following the general ratings tight-ass trend, the USK has been cracking down of late. Since gamers can pounce over to neighboring countries like the Netherlands to buy Dead Rising, it's rather pointless to ban the game. Though, I doubt it's Dead Rising that folks head to the Netherlands for. It's those lovely tulips. Brian Ashcraft
