At approximatley 7:10 PM on Friday evening, the E For All expo came to a close, abruptly and unintentionally. While the gathered masses, quite thin at this late hour, were still busying themselves watching Jonathan "Fatal1ty" Wendel play Quake IV, enjoying The Orange Box and Super Mario Galaxy, they were surprised to see... blackness. A power outage on the right half of South Hall, encompassing the Nintendo and EA booths—arguably two-thirds of the show—made the last hour of the show a dark affair. Staff escorted gamers out for their own safety, largely wrapping up the show for the night.
It's not the first time this has happened at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Multiple E3s had power failures, resulting in blazing hot temperatures and very boring booths. This one just happened to be surprisingly timely.

Kinda sucks for those who bought the Friday only passes, I suppose
Wish I was there. Lights out = Snatch and Grab!
Omen time!
What can i say, EA is not power friendly, i once heard they run their cell phones on car batteries. From a reliable source i might add!
I've got 3 Wii's with Smash Bros Brawl in 'em. Unfortuenetly, I was over run by the 5 people attending, and lost all of them.
That sucks for some people I guess. :(
Then again, I didn't get to go anyway.
Cool, maybe someone managed to sneak out with one of the Smash Bros. Brawl demos.

This thing does continue over the weekend, right?
It would be hard not to say that E For All was not great. Not great at all. But there were virtually no queues to play games, I got to talk one on one to people who worked for game companies all day, and to personally speak to the guy who made Elebits/Dewy's Adventure about his games. So I'm pretty happy about it. I doubt I'd go back and I wouldn't want a 4 day pass. But I'm pretty happy overall.
From all accounts it sounds like the power outage was just putting the event out of its misery.
It didn't affect me as I had wrapped up my stay by 6:15.
After 2 days, I had seen everything I wanted to, and I wanted to get out of LA while there was still some daylight.
Still, all in all, I enjoyed it very much. It was like a mini E3, without the huge crowds or stress. Still, if it is to survive another year, it needs more Exhibitors badly!
@floppylobster: too many nots
@Nirvash:
Silly, why would it be up on eBay?
*checks torrent sites*
I'm sure all 12 people attending were very disappointed.
10 bucks says Ubisoft was behind this.
is called "anticlimax"
Sure, the inaugural E For All doesn't really hold a candle to the bloated spectacle of old E3, but then again, the new low-key Santa Monica-based E3 doesn't hold a candle to the old E3 either.
Sounds fishy... Conspiracy I tell ya!
If there were EA girls, what would've happen?
massive failure :(
Shit. Salt in the wound. Sure, this happened at E3, but E3 was free. Not counting your sanity, I mean. And so many game Ts ruined by flop sweat.
Haven't been keeping track with E For All, I take it it sucked hard? :)
i lawled, poor E for All
so yeah did anyone swipe any hot demos? =)
@Spds: Proof of major failure indeed.
Why could they not have been showing off portables at the time?
If it was a big network game of Advance Wars, this wouldn't have mattered.
Maybe the 'E' in 'E for All' meant 'Electricity' and maybe the 'All' meant 'None'.
What an utterfly fitting end.
given how badly it has been for them so far, this is the LAST thing they need
what a piece of shit event. how can this be the new e3?
@Zero_: I don't know whether you win or fail. You're a fucking uncertainty lich.
Hm.
Hhahahaha I left right before the power outage... and...
Is that Yuji Naka taking a picture ? Hahahah.
Wow... I uh... Thats more than amusing, that cracks me up. I approve.
*Low Power*
*Shutting Down*
For people questioning if anyone swiped demos:
You need power for the systems to eject discs, so I highly doubt anyone could have gotten away with anything. Plus the systems were probably in plastic bubbles like they are at stores, so even if they had power to eject the discs, no one could get to them.
I went to E for All on Thursday with work. It was pretty tame, hopefully next year more exhibitors will be there. I got to play Mario Galaxy for a little bit and I can gladly say I'm looking forward to it.
As we were leaving, we passed this large group of plugs, and we were joking about how we should pull em and take out the show. Guess someone went through with it ;/
I hope it's back up today. I'm on my way up to LA right now. I didn't go the past 2 days, I was too busy. If you can enjoy everything in 2 days, I think I'll still have a chance at trying everything.
The lights came back on about 10 minutes before closing. The stations that were on that side of the building ended up called it a night, but the other side continued to operate until closing. I blame JLo for being next door at the Staples center. Damn her and the spawn that resides in her sucking the power out of establishments!
Truth be told, E for All was supposed to be powered geeks but no one showed up :(
@La Sepultura: Exactly what I thought... Early copies of Mario Galaxy? Hell Yeah!
Is that what happened? I was there yesterday, but I was in the MGS4 booth at the time. I was going to head over to the PC stuff right after, but then I saw it was all down. I just assumed they were closing shop early.
What the hell, you went back the second day? Did you not fill up your picture quota?
Man, i was in line to play super smash bros brawl when this happened. Luckily, nintendo was in the very middle of the expo, and only half of the tvs went out, so I was in the last group of people to play ssbb that day
oh, and about stealing things, there are guards there with guns, and the wii's are in plastic cases... you would need a large hammer to get the plastic open and steal the wii.
@UnJamma6096: Not to mention power to press the "eject" button.
A fitting way to end off that amateur hour event.
I was out for food and when I showed up in the South Hall, I saw a blackout. I thought it was a joke, but ya know, pretty funny!
I was there. I had only been there for 2 hours when the power went out. Good thing that that was plenty of time to see the entire show.
Oh yeah, and the Wii is for babies.
Haha! I left at 5:30 because my feet were tired!
