GDC07: Spielberg & EA Making Wii Game

NO SCHINDLER'S LIST GAME JOKES HEREBack in October of 2005, EA announced that it was working with director Steven Spielberg on a trio of videogames but has since been relatively quiet on exactly what those games are. As EA LA's Neil Young expressed to Gamasutra last year, the games would focus on original IP, so a proper sequel to E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial for the Atari 2600 is probably out of the question.

Today, Young spoke with GameDaily's James Brightman on two of the games born of the Spielberg collaboration, revealing that one would be a Wii project. The other? A game described as "what you'd expect, sort of, from a Steven Spielberg production." Young then clarified that statement with "Steven's stories are intimate stories that take place around huge, world-changing events... sort of, big stories shown through the eyes of a small group."

Check out more details over at GameDaily.

  • Steven Spielberg is a washed up.He really hasn't made a decent movie in almost 20 years, then his best movies were written by G.Lucas ... Most his recent movies are based after real life events or people and he can't even keep those stories truthful.. boy can't wait to see what games he helps with and how badly he will still from other idea's to come out with... friggn stolen art buyer... hehehe sorry the guy rubs me the wrong way.

  • its schindlers list, that movie did something with him, there have been strong schindlers list elements in all his movies thereafter, dunno what it is, was a good movie and all^^

  • "He really hasn't made a decent movie in almost 20 years"

Saving Private Ryan is an excellent film (robbed of the Best Picture Oscar) and is, last I checked, less than a decade old.

  • So many people making secret wii games. No one showing anything. I suppose that's what happens when the industry is basically blindsided by somethings success.

  • If its E.T im hanging myself!!!

  • This will be interesting...his movies are alright. And since it will focus on "original" IP, we can safely say it's not E.T. Nowhere to go but up with that game..ughh what a terrible POS it was...

  • Steven needs to put the wrist strap on before he kills somebody.

  • Hey! Put that wrist strap on right now, before you hurt someone! Bad Spielberg!

  • The Dig was a great game, which was the last time I remember Spielburg being involved in video games. So this sounds good.

  • It's obvious what Spielberg has in mind: Mini Games. The mastermind will now pave a way for future mini games on the console made for mini games. It will also be in 480p and encompass you in Dolby prologic II. *phew* i worked up a sweat just thinking about the future of wii gaming.

Then only 3 month before release, EA will announce bold new versions for next gen consoles...

  • I don't know if it is what they're talking about, but I know that there's an Indiana Jones in the works for the Wii.

  • sxp151 - He was also involved with Medal Of Honor. So yeah, aside from throwing down the gauntlet for film combat in Saving Private Ryan, he's also partly responsible for the wave of WW2 shooters since 2000.

Pavementeater - Munich was the best film of 2005 (imo even better than Schindler's List since it is an even tougher film from a moral standpoint).

Plus he made Jaws. Come on. Bag on Miyamoto while you're at it.

    He's still got it, bigtime.

  • @sxp151:

Does anyone think the recent decision to go after "digg" has anything to do with this?

  • @Paroxysm: Well, or that's what happens when a console only just came out and hardly anyone has had time to get near completion on their games yet...

Anyway, good news, I'm glad to hear more interest in Wii from anyone who sounds like they might be doing a Wii-specific game rather than (say) a cheap PS2 port, particularly if it's also not based on a crappy TV cartoon series...
