This just in from Sony's E3 Press conference: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will be a PS3 Exclusive. This will be the grand finale, the last game in the series. Snake's story will come to a close, and it will be the last one that Hideo Kajima participates in. The end of an era.
The game's 20th anniversary is later this month.
This is not the first time Hideo-san has announced his departure from the series - he said the same thing after making Metal Gear Solid 3. But this announcement ends rampant speculation that MGS4 would become an Xbox 360 title. It also signals a delay in the game's release until 2008.

I wonder how much Sony paid to keep this one exclusive? That and a price cut on the PS3 ... Sony is bleeding cash at the moment.
That trailer looked sweet!
Aww. Was so hoping for some 360 goodness.
AHAHAHAHAHAAAA! hope all you guys will shut up and stop saying "MGS4 MUST be PS3 exclusive or else..." Finally some closure :)
My dumbass had to go fix some Ramen, and as soon as I get back, I catch the end of the MGS4 trailer. RAWR!
Video, Kotaku? Please?
Wow...end of an era indeed.
Some side stories, akin to Ghost Babel could be fun. Anyone?
Wasn't MGS3 supposed to be Hideo's last hurrah?
Also, you spelled his last name wrong: it's Kojima.
Sure, I'll believe it's the last one...
I'd say this and the whole "Killzone 2 is... wait, it's good?!" constitute a net very good news for Sony, and there may yet be more good news to come.
Sales up by 700%? Nice. Killzone 2 looks great, and may well look even better when it's released? Nice. MGS4 isn't going nowhere? Also nice.
Nice. Proud to be a PS3 owner again. NOW I WANT HOME, DAMN YOU SONY!
@captain_dl: Last I checked M$ was the one paying for their exclusives, Sony hasn't needed to.
well at least Raiden is cool enough to carry on the series now! lol
i swear Hideo said their is a possibility that he would make anouther if fans wanted it badly
Kojima has been stating forever that the game will be PS3 exclusive, but he's forgetting that while the franchise might be in his hands, he doesn't call the shots in Konami. He's got alot of influence, but when Konami's president himself says that he might port MGS4 in order to get the development costs back, Kojima has to shut the fuck up and do as his boss says.
Just to annoy people....
He said exclusive, but that could mean timed exclusive, similar to the new Unreal.
I thi
I thin
I think it will come to the xbox 360 eventually.
my free ps3 will finally c
goddammit..
Now I have to buy a PS3.
Sonofabitch...
(Kaz just orgasmed).
I said timed exclusive yesterday, And I believe it still today.
Oh, and there IS going to be an MGS5, since one of the funny movies featuring Raiden in MGS3 said so, and Kojima always keeps saying "I might do this or that in MGS5".
It won't be the last in the series. He will obey a fan outcry and make another. Besides, money is a powerful thing.
Too bad the 360 doesn't get a piece of this, but congrats to Sony for keeping this game exclusive.
Maybe someday, maybe after another $100 price cut, I'll get a PS3, haha. There are defiantly a few awesome looking games that are making me think about it.
He said MGS2 would be the last as well, didn't he? and mgs3?
Either way, this looks amazing and if it is truly exclusive.. I really might have to get a ps3.. this conference is impressing me.. not 500$ worth but still. There's a lot of good stuff.
But yeah, we knew MGS4 was exclusive to ps3. they've said it since it was announced.
but theres still a great chance that could change.
mgs4 360 holiday 08, i'm saying 80% chance.
@Ashurahori: That may happen after MGS4 with a MG spin-off if he sells the rights but he does have the right to pull his franchise if the company tries to do something he doesn't want. Just cause you have a boss doesn't mean you have to listen, especially when another job is rather easy to find.
That was a very confusing trailer.
THANK GOD! YAYYY :D
Didn't he say that last time?
I gotta buy a PS3 now? Well damn. >_<
Is it still coming to 360?
Who said it was exclusive? Tretton? Trenton? Whatever the heck his name is?
I don't think he's the deciding factor.
Kojima has said that if there is enough demand, he might come back for MGS5 sometime in the future (IE not for a while), and that if he does, it would be something that the fans would have impact on, maybe user generated content or something, I don't know.
There's still a high chance of a Portable Ops 2, as MPO didn't show the highly anticipated "Darth Vader" moment for Big Boss.
Spinoffs and alternate-canon stories or games about new characters are also pretty likely, as I doubt the franchise will just die off. I've been hoping for a direct sequel to Ghost Babel, as that sets up an interesting AU in which Outer Heaven was US-sponsored, Big Boss was Snake's biological father, and Gray Fox is presumably still alive and human.
@afmvdp: All three companies do it. However, Sony have always been the worst for paying companies to make them exclusive. Why do you think it took them so long to release GTA on the Xbox?
One of Sony's biggest mistakes this generation was believing that these companies would continue to make games exclusively for their system because "they were the best".
Anyway, can't say I'm all that interested in MGS4, seems to be following in the footsteps of the not so great second game. And now that it's not being released on anything besides the PS3, I guess I won't be playing it anytime soon. But I'll live. :)
@Action-Bastard: Read the topic...
It's a damn good thing for Sony MGS4 stayed exclusive. It's a damn bad thing it's the last one though.I still didn't see anything in the Sony or MS press conferances that was as impressive as Gears of War is.JAs a matter of fact only Rachet and Klank REALLY impressed me the way Resistance did last year for the PS3.
With the way the story has been progressing in MGS, it seems like this will be the end of Snake's story and the series. I'm looking forward to it even if it is the end. It's Kojima let's see what else he has up his sleeves besides Metal Gear Solid. If the man can create MGS, who knows what other great things he can think of. After MGS4, he should start working on a new Zone of the Enders.
Wheee.
Hmm interesting turn of events.
Ah well, still doesnt make me want to buy a PS3.
Well MGS4 will be a great game no matter what!
I think we knew since the first trailer that it was going to be the last one because Snake was going on and on about killing himself and actually putting a gun in his face. That explaines graphically that the series is coming to an end.
well sony wins conferences solely on mgs4!
fucking shit damnit i need a ps3 in 08.anyone willing to "loan" me $500? pwease ;)
No...
I can't have my "Chiropractor" Achievement?
Achievement Unlocked
25 G- Chiropractor
"Stealth/CQC kill 150 enemies."
@Tezs: Not sure how KZ2 couldn't excite anyone seeing it.
no closure at all... exclusive means exclusive FOR NOW. We ALL should know that by now.
... after this preview I am ALOT less interested in it. and wasn't very interested before.
Sony DID put on a better 'show' for their conference though... than both the other two.
I believe BOTH of his last games were his last one. I hope it's true this time because the series really went downhill after the original Playstation version.
@Neo_X:
That was some serious River Dancing they were doing.
early 08 :(
@afmvdp:
What makes you think, Sony doesn't have deals with Konami, Ubisoft, and Epic with their games? Because they pay for their contracts.
I could swear he just said "Premiere" on the PlayStation3, not "exclusive." In fact I think Jack and Kojima said "Premiere" 2-3 times between them.
@Truepatriot: not by I might be willing to buy your soul :D
@skobar: I know, I know. I was one of the many saying this from jump. I just had to say it. Sorry (not really)
Hideo Kojima always says that.
@captain_dl:
Like MS for GTA
