Tired of playing fraternity parties and pool-halls, 80's sensation Duran Duran are plotting a live Second Life concert. Announced back in August, the boys, now scary old men, are now "beta testing all kinds of things," says keyboards Nick Rhodes. They hope to make it as authentic as possible and not just something done beforehand. Besides virtual sex and virtual cocaine, what drew the band to SL? Rhodes says:
When I first saw the "Second Life" site, it was a real epiphany for me. I knew this type of technology was developing and starting to flourish, but I had no idea there was a site up there already — which was the size of Luxembourg in virtual acres. I looked at it from a creative point of view and thought, 'We should do a concert in here, and have our own space in here, and move on from (having a Web presence) and finally come into 3-D.
Any virtual space big enough for Luxembourg is big enough for Duran Duran. Oh, and the band will be releasing a new album next year.
