Now that the DS Lite has launched in Japan, North America and Europe, the original Dual Screen looks like it's gonna get kicked to the curb, right? Wrong, says Nintendo UK. The company claims it won't dump the system "as long as there is demand." A Ninty spokesperson tells website Games Industry:
We're still committed to the old DS as long as there's demand. Don't forget that the Pink and Blue DS units are only available in the old model, which account for a large percentage of our sales to girls. And like Japan we haven't seen any drop off in sales of the old model in the run-up to the launch of DS Lite.
But post-launch, how can Nintendo convince customers to shell out for an uglier, bigger and less luminous portable while that sexy DS Lite is so alluring? Promote it to underage kiddos.
