Yes, the original PlayStation will still be around in 2071. Sony built 'em to last! I know this because anime Cowboy Bebop tells us so. And since we love the game console anime cameos, Kotakuite StolenName sends us this gem:
I was watching Cowboy Bebop, which is set in the year 2071 when humans have expanded across the solar system and have started to colonise planets and moons, when I noticed an old Playstation console sitting in an Indians tent during the last episodes "The Real Folk Blues" - I believe it was part 2. During this particular scene Jet and the old fortune teller are discussing Spike's (lead character) imminent death.Anyways, thought it was funny to include the original PS in the clip considering its pretty much impossible to watch VHS in the year 2071, with only strange otaku really making use of the older technologies. Though, Cowboy Bebop does make use of the old betamax recording technologies over VHS, with an entire episode dedicated to finding a beta player. Never really picked up on the Sony relationship till today.
