It looks like the Super Mario Galaxy deals just keep on coming. First GameStop offers free two day shipping and now Toy "R" Us is getting in on the action too. Purchase your copy of the game that will make you dust off your Wii (in-store) from Toys "R" Us and you'll be rewarded with a $25 dollar gift card. Pretty sweet deal right there seeing as it's about half off of another new game (depending on the game). That's almost enough to make me want to get in the car, drive the ten miles to the nearest TRU and fight the hordes of screaming children to get it.

I really wish i had a spare $50 right now ... >.<
cant wait for this one cause my wii really needs to be dusted off lol.
HOLY SHIT YES!
That's a really sweet deal. If I was to get a Wii, Mario Galaxy would be the reason. Sadly I only have enough for one game, I can't find the money for a new system plus a game. Which brings me to this question.
Any good deals on Mass Effect? I must have that game!
DAMN IT!!! Had I known this 2 hours ago I would have so use that special O_O DARN it :(
What is more surprising is that it reads on store Tuesday, which is Nov, when the game is suppose to come out on Nov 12.... (Let's temptation take a hold of him)
whoa! nice.. sucks that i gotta buy a game from a diff store than the one i work at.. oops lol. but i just cant pass this offer up! good job TRU.
Well, there's where I'm purchasing SMG and Assassin's Creed.
Maybe a flyer for next week? I'm pretty sure this isn't a street dated title, so it'll ship on Monday the 12th, and be in most stores by 5pm on Tuesday the 13th.
Wow...I will be at Toy's R Us that day. i'll buy a DS game with the rest...
I guess no one played Metroid Prime 3 and Zack and Wiki...and Virtual Console games like Sin & punishment. The "dust off the wii" comments are a bit old now. In the Summer it was the thing to say.
I don't get the "dust off the Wii" jokes. Metroid is barely 2 months old, Zach & Wiki just came out, Guitar Hero 3 just came out... and now Mario Galaxy is about to come out.
It's not like the 360 has been setting the world afire aside from Halo 3 and Bioshock.
Went to TRU to preorder. That $25 will give me so much help. It's hard being a gamer at this time of the season. =(
@Padriac: Hmm, Skate and Orange Box say hello. And as wii owner myself, I too will be not only dusting it off, but plugging it back in.
I don't get the Wii dust jokes, either. I play the Wii more than my other consoles. Can someone please enlighten me as to the perceived lack of games on the Wii?
@Padriac: And Ace Combat 6, and Assassin's creed.
6 games in the space of two months, unlike your 4 games in 3 or 4 months.
Win!
@I_Hate_This_Place:
There is nothing amazing about Skate.
And bioshock was early summer.
Theres just a silly little culture of gamers that think its "cool" to bash the Wii.
Taking a quick looking at the next 3 months, my Wii is going to be very busy, and my 360 is going to be very bored.
@Padriac: Yeah, seeing as a game seems to come out every other week that incites Wii dusting, they're gonna be some very dust-free consoles. Of course, until there's some well implemented online, nothing's gonna have the replayability of a TF2 or COD4.
I don't see why anyone would have to dust off their Wii. It has virtual console games comming out every week. By the time I'm finished with one gem, another one has com out. Between the virtual console, Zack and Wiki, Batallion Wars 2, Guitar Hero 3, and Metroid Prime 3 on hyper mode, I'll have trouble making time for Galaxy.
It will obviously have priority once I get it, though.
and I bought mine for the equivalent of 25€ (4380 yens, instead of 5.000 something)
why is this game so cheap? do they really want this game to sell that much?
thanks for the tip
@Padriac: -and don't forget Battalion Wars 2! I'm Lovin the hell outta that game.
@brent_w: August is early summer? Meh, whatever, I like both consoles (and if I had had enough money to buy MP3, then I wouldn't have to "dust off" the Wii). I haven't been to Toys "R" Us in ages, so could someone fill me in as to whether or not they'll be carrying Mass Effect? Because, if so, I'm getting both games there.
Also, SMG WILL have a lot of people dusting off their Wii. There has been no killer app must have title yet and so many "casual" (aka shallow) games, leaving gamers unmotivated to play the system.
Sure, there are a few good games like MP3, Z&W, etc, but they're not universally anticipated, especially when compared to Mario's next platformer, which to those that didn't feel Sunshine much, this is like Mario's first new platformer since SM64 ten years ago. SMG will be the game that dusts off Wiis, including mine
@theblade: If that's the sort of thing that makes you 'lol,' maybe you should, I don't know, listen to an actual joke or something.
Or is your mom just tickling you at the moment?
@brent_w:
Bored with Assassin's Creed, Kane and Lynch, Mass Effect and Losy Odyssey from now through January. I think not. Then you got GTA IV, possibly Alan Wake, Army of Two and Mercenaries 2 right after that.
Toys'R'Us has some killer deals on video games if you keep an eye out. 2-3 weeks back they had buy 2 games, get 3rd free! I don't know of any other store that does this. I'm now buying SMG at toys' and will use the xtra $25 giftcard for a christmas present or something...Aw, who am I kidding, I'll buy some Xbox live points for Rockband DLC:)
Wow! I usually buy my games at Bestbuy for the reward points, but I'll definitely be heading to TRU for this. And then back sometime later to spend the gift card of course. Awesome deal.
@crazyorloco: Contra 4 drops on the same day... thats the DS game I'll be getting along side SMG.
*Goes to the store*
"Uh sir, this game costs $50. You only gave me $25."
"Yeah, yeah I'll just use the free $25 dollar gift card that comes with it."
"Uh..."
@Spiffyness:
Yes, TRU's will carry Mass Effect. The one by our office even has a "Made In Edmonton!" sticker on their preorder boxes. hehe
I had it reserved at EB... maybe I should just move my reserve money onto brawl... But then no collectible commemorative coin. But then More than half off Zack and Wiki... Argh, choices.
@Padriac:
Metacritic shows 29 recently released Xbox 360 games getting a score over 75, compared to 12 for the Wii, and that's not counting certain non-retro Live Arcade games like E4, Puzzle Quest, Mutant Storm Empire, etc.
Then you have to consider that becuse of the increased emphasis of online multiplayer placed on most 360 games, games for that system tend to last longer. Also, a number of the bigger multiplatform games tend to sell better for the 360, for any number of reasons. For Madden, it was the high-def graphics. For Guitar Hero, it was for downloadable content and the fact that so many people already had the Xplorer guitar from Guitar Hero II.
Now, all of this isn't meant to say the Wii doesn't have great games or they won't have even more great games in the future. But unless you've got blinders on, it's pretty obvious that in general the 360 has had the games recently. Maybe not for you personally, but for a lot of people.
DAMN IT!, I just put 20 bucks down at target for the game, I wonder if they will "price match" Toys R Us offer?.
@brent_w: Did I say SKate was amazing? Hell, I haven't even played besides the demo. I was jsut saying that there are more games that came out than the ones implied by the person I was replying to.
My Wii does not need dusting off. Stop being so condescending towards the Wii and its owners all the time! There are good games for the Wii now, and there will be good ones after Galaxy, too.
Cut it out already!
@Padriac: c'mon. As great as the Wii is in potentia, the game selection has been pretty crappy. Almost everything that came out before October has been really poorly rated. And the VC only goes so deep. That said, I think that Battalion Wars looks really good, and I'm sure Mario's going to be great for those who like that style of gaming.
@TheCleaningGuy: EXACTLY! Iv been debating which one I should get, and then this little offer pops up! Thank you TRU.
Why the hell is this suddenly tuning to a discussion of which system has more things O_o I have been playing the Wii constantly, but that is cause I don't mind getting other kind of games that aren't Triple AAA only, those are far and in between for ALL consoles. Right now I am been playing Victorious Boxers for Wii, and before that was Metroid Prime 3. I am just glad I am able to enjoy different kind of games (though not all of them)
I know most won't probaly get some of the games coming out for the wii, but there are games. That you want to play them is completly different from there not being games O_o All this talks just bring to my mind that awful song (alter for this discussion) 'My console is better than yours, damn right is better than yours' *shudders* Please, just enjoy your system and be able to have an open minded about other systems and there games.
Also about the whole "dusting off the Wii" I hate to say it, but for me that is the case. The last time I really played it was when I got Zelda. I was gonna get MP3 but I got Bioshock instead and haven't been in the mood for a Metroid game I guess. Virtual Console games are mostly ... eh IDK, and if I really wanted could get them for free. Zack & Wiki looks ok, just not a puzzle game guy. I pretty much use my Wii for First Party titles or games I cant get on a 360 (Thats one of the reasons I dont own a PS3).
If I had a Wii, this would indeed be the game that would make me dust it off! One other really nice thing about the Wii games is that they're $10 cheaper than 360 or PS3. The TRU deal makes this even sweeter.
On the other hand I'm in the middle of playing 4-5 360 games right now (Halo3, OrangeBox, GH3, NHL08/FIFA08) and have CoD4 and AC pre-rodered and soon will have Mass Effect as well. I guess the Wii will remain a dusty figment of my imagination.
I'm in the Wii-dusting crowd. It was a Wii Sports & party game machine up until now. I might get MP3 this Christmas but I didn't bother to buy it since I'd been anticipating Bioshock and Halo 3 for a long time and knew they'd eat up all my gaming minutes.
Post-SNES, I've bought every Nintendo console because I knew I'd want to play Nintendo's games. And outside of Goldeneye and ResEvil 4, that's about all I've used them for. Glad I'm finally getting a new Mario. We've been getting only one per generation so I may just sell the Wii for massive holiday profits after finishing Galaxy.
@brent_w: Skate was amazing in that it was a sports-related EA game that didn't suck.
I don't get the "dusting off the Wi" comment either. Maybe up until Metroid came out, that would be applicable. Now I just finished Metroid, started playing Zack and Wiki, bought Sin and Punishment and Super Metroid on the VC, want Mario Galaxy, Fire Emblem, Battalion Wars, Umbrella Chronicles and Trauma Centre. I don't know when I will get the time to play all of these games. Add to that the DS titles that I want and I'll be swimming in gaming goodness.
@Bishmon: Its cute that you use X-Box 360 for your argument considering that its been out longer, and the wii has barely been out a year now.
Must be a fanboy upset that a good game is coming out for the Wii, as for the whole dusting off thing, I've had my Wii on since launch. If not for Bowling Tournaments or great games like MP3, Zack and Wiki, not to mention VC titles. I guess people are upset that the system is doing so good?

Any one of these three memes will be repeated until 2010:
1. "Time to dust off the Wii!"
2. "Time for a PS3 Price Drop!"
3. "Time to send back the 360!"
Whether it's true or not, valid or not, we'll be hearing these for a while. No sense getting your panties in a bunch every time you hear them.
Its so cool to make fun of a system that is in such high demand years after launch, that it is sold out everywhere.
Its almost as cool as making fun of a Ferrari because its slow. Which I do all the time, which is why I'm so cool.
Except Im not cool. Do the math Kotaku :)
Cool. Now I just need some nose plugs for the old diapers/stale milk smell and I'll be good to go.
Looks like I'll be picking up the game at TRU, then. a $25.00 gift card seems like a pretty solid deal. Plus, I've got some TRU dollars from McDonalds.
@Warren DeMontague: I completely agree. These are consumer products, not family members.
This deal is awesome though. Definitely taking advantage of it.
I called the two toy-r-us stores here and neither of them knew about this deal :-( Think they just havent been told yet?
