Get 1,600 Live Points for $5

The headline pretty much says it all. Best Buy is running a sale through tomorrow that discounts 1,600 Xbox Live points down to $5 if you buy a 360 game. That's about $15 off the regular price. Not bad, not bad at all.

  • What a complete waste of $5.

  • Wow, nice... I needed a points card, so now it'll be like buying a points card and getting Ridge Racer for $5 more.

  • Unfortunately it doesn't look like the deal is available for Phantasy Star Universe.

    /cry

  • While I cannot blame Microsoft, or any game company for that matter, selling 'points' or any other virtual wares, I still yearn for the good old days of playing for the sake of playing and not trying to get enough game time in so I could be privileged enough to buy non-physical items.

That being said, that is pretty cheap.

  • Now we can all afford Lumines Live!

  • Also if you need to renew your xbox live and your planning on getting gears of war you can get $20 off Plus 200 free points and a free live headset.

  • Oh, and you also get the billards game for free as well. Not a bad deal at all.

I kinda always wanted that billards game but refused to spend 1200 pnts on it. Free I can handle.

  • Oh and just choose to pick up the gamer points and live kit at your store to avoid shipping charges.

  • Any idea if this is just online orders or at the stores too?

  • It's available in stores, that's direct from the ad, and it says ANY Xbox 360, so I think Phantasy Star fits those conditions...it being a 360 game and all.

  • Spiltmilk, look closer and you can see that that $20 off coupon expired in, oh, let's say June. I have no idea why theyre still printing those and sticking them on boxes...

  • I picked up the Gears of War Pre-Order at Best Buy along with the Points card and the deal was valid on it. So I spent $10 and received a 1600 pts card, a GoW t-shirt, and $5 off GoW when it comes out.

  • looks like the promotion is only for USA Best Buy stores. The Canadian best buy store has nothing on getting 1600 pts for 5 bucks. :(

  • Raynre, it comes with a $20 rebate coupon that is no good but they do take $20 off your order when you put them in your cart. And you can then put the 1600 points in your cart for $5.

I did it yesterday. For about $100+ stupid tax I got Gears of War preorder, a year of live gold, 1800 points, a free live headset, and bankshot billiards.

Not a bad deal since I only had a month to re-up my live anyhow and I was definately getting Gears.

  • You can get the points for $5 online as well. Check out http://www.bestbuy.com/site//olspage.jsp?id=pcmcat10350005... for info. I already got mine :)

  • Or you can get the same amount for free.

    Here

  • this is NOTHING. Best Buy just finished a deal in canada yesterday... buy Splinter Cell Double Agent for 10bucks less, and get 1 FULL YEAR of XBLX.

thats 59.99cdn and get a 79.99cdn xbl card.

I caved in and bought it last night... but its too late, enjoy you 5dollars for pts card.

  • just to verify, has anyone tried it w/ a $30 game? I'm thinking of finally getting project gotham racing.... and I'd like some points to go w/ it.

  • Yesterday I bought the Gears of War pre-order $5 with t shirt and got the points for $5 because the gears pre-order counts as a game in the system.

I already had Gears pre-ordered but $5 for a shirt (XL BTW) and $5 for 1600 points, awesome.

  • superbagman: It's available in stores, that's direct from the ad, and it says ANY Xbox 360, so I think Phantasy Star fits those conditions...it being a 360 game and all.

Ooh, I thought it was an online-only deal, but it's there in the weekly ad. The reason I said I couldn't get it with PSU is because every time I added it through the online store, it wasn't flaged for the $5.00 deal.

Looks like I'm stopping by Best Buy on the way home tonight.

  • "just to verify, has anyone tried it w/ a $30 game? I'm thinking of finally getting project gotham racing.... and I'd like some points to go w/ it."

Exactly what I got, worked for me.

  • sweet, thanks.

  • Did it yesterday while buying the latest Splinter Cell. Boy, did I have to fight for it, though.

When I brought it up to the counter, it rang up as the regular price. I thought it would happen, so I had the ad ready to give to the clerk. I pointed to the article and told her that it should be $4.99 instead.

She looked at me like I just insulted her mother. Instead of correcting the price, she added a magazine subscription on to my order and kept repeating that the price of the card was $19.99.

Obviously, she didn't know what the hell I was talking about. I had to call up the manager, which is something I absolutely hate when I work retail as well. He came over and told her to let the transaction go through and it would automatically take it off of the final price.

I feel bad for doing that to a fellow retail clerk, but oh well, it happens. The knowledge that I can get eight "Horse Armor" packs now comforted my conscience. By a minuscule amount.
