Below, German hardware sales for April.
Wii: 20,000
PS3: 16,000
360: 9,500
Nice to see the PS3 putting up a fight for once. As for the total units shifted since each console's launch:
Xbox 360: 262,000
Wii: 222,000
PS3: 70,500
That tells a tale. A tale of a 360 that, like the proverbial hare, is about to be run down by the marauding tortoise that is the Wii. And the PS3 is...shit, there's only two animals in that analogy. The PS3 can be the komodo dragon. Or a slower tortoise. But I like komodo dragons better.
Bericht: Nintendo verkaufte 222.000 Wii-Konsolen in Deutschland [Heise Online, thanks Klaus!]

Comments
I'm sure Aesop would be fine with a Komodo Dragon.
Note to Luke: Komodo Dragons are pretty damn fast.
Thanks for listening
I loled at the dragon.
I think it would be fair to say at this point that the PS3 would be the proverbial dead horse, and the Wii is clearly beating it.
It's 12:45 AM here in Canada. I'm in my post-drunk stage (sobering up but not quite there yet) reading an article about German console sales figures and being amused by a reference to an Aesop tale and a komodo dragon.
What the hell am I doing with my fucking life?!
Is it wrong of me that for a split second I actually thought that the picture was a screenshot for a game?
Anyways, Komodo Dragons is actually a good analogy for PS3. See those things are in small numbers but they can literally kill people, in this case Xbox360s and Wiis be it through heat or falling on top of one.
Sehr Toll. Danke Schon. Auf wiederschnitzel.
@Keyser Soze:
You think that's bad ?
It's 7 am here in Holland. I just got back from a club , drinking way too much alcohol. Instead of succumbing to my drowsiness and actually going to sleep , I am here on Kotaku waiting for the Blizzard news.
In my defence it is an extended weekend this week here in Holland though.
"And the PS3 is... shit" (you could've stopped it right there)
I wonder if the huge popularity of the PC over there has a negative effect on 360 sales.
First Canadian and now German sales data? Can we get Columbian sales numbers tomorrow? =D
@Krytha: That would require burritos and tequila for it to be the result of a trip through the digestive system though.
Still, that could explain the doom, gloom, and bloom presentation of videogames. Though... how would that explain 360 and Wii games that adopt the doom, gloom, and bloom colorschemes?
That's too bad. I personally really like playing my PS3 alot more than the Wii or 360. The upcoming PS3 exclusives look alot better than the Wii or 360 exclusives too in my opinion.
@DarrenC:
Same here dood.
@Krytha:
lolol
Might I suggest that you add that the PS3 launched in March in Germany and the Wii back in December 2006 and the X360 in November 2005?
It's a bit misleading because some people will actually look at that and think they've been on the market for the same amount of time.
@Black-Dog-Howls: The Komodo dragon has taken bites out of the Wii and the 360 and will soon find and trample their rotting corpses ;)
lol... komodo dragon... haha
well then, all thats left is for the ps3 to shed it's skin...
Xbox 360: 262,000
Wii: 222,000
PS3: 70,500
I nearly thought the 360 was insanely, ridiculously popular for a second there.
@khdownes: Yeah, those are totals, not monthlies... In monthlies, 360 is dead last. And will likely stay that way.
Wow the Wii has almost caught up to the 360, that was fast
Also on
"And the PS3 is...shit"
I think it would have been funnier if you said "shite" instead of "shit" since it is German
@SWATdoctor:
X shite
O Schitte
Still, I'm suprised about how low these numbers are, all of them. I mean we are more than 80 million people over here and Japan with 120 million beats the monthly sales over here every week.
@bobtheduck:
Comparing the time they have been out. The PS3 is selling like shit as well. But nice going, making sure to take the pot shot against the 360 for the hell of it.
Console sales from the biggest PC nation in the world. Whats next, football (the soccer kind) matches on the Nielson ratings? Or how about European comedies box office numbers?
Hey, that city in the pic is Munich, my hometown and current location. Go me.
@wolkengrau:
Common scriptkiddie shorthand is sh1te, "shit" is "Scheiße" or "Scheisse".
Not so much a Komodo Dragon (which are surprisingly quick) more like an Albatross around Sony's neck.
@Roller:
Well, it could always canibalize a PSP...
@wolkengrau: Why does that surprise you? A country with more people buy more consoles...
@ctlance:
I can see your house from here.
@dowingba:
I wanted to point out, that Japan weekly >> German monthly. With a gap of 50% (respectively 33.3333...%) in population that's really surprising.
i'm not at all positive, but i thought that censorship was a big deal in Germany. they don't get many of the shooters and more violent games that the US and Japan do, so wouldn't that have something to do with the Wii's so-called success? I mean, when you only have so many options, and you narrow everyone's game options down to the Wii's level, then the price alone makes it much more appealing then the other more expensive systems, even if they are significantly better.
Grr. I stood in front of all those buildings, walked down all those streets, sneezed my face off due to seasonal pollen, and never once saw the Alps. Is there a tower or something I was supposed to be standing on? I feel cheated.
Also...any word on German handheld sales? I'd be curious.
I think that soon the sales of the Wii are going to plummet considering I am starting to see the Wiis in my area stay on the shelves for 2 or 3 days. The only thing is, once the Wii sales plummet, they probably won't climb back up with new game releases like the PS3 will because at $250 you can buy the system now with the couple of good games that it has and wait for even more good games to come out, but most people can't swing the $600 to get a PS3. Pretty soon everyone who wants a Wii will have one because it is cheap enough that most people don't have to save up to get it. However, there will continue to be people who want a PS3 and don't have one because they can't afford it for a while so there will still be that trickle in sales of people who are finally making it to the point where they have saved enough money to buy the system. Plenty of times I hear people say that they want a PS3 but can't afford/see themselves paying $600 for a system. Me included. I didn't even really want a Wii that much, I only bought it because it was cheap enough and because they stopped making GameCube games. I want a PS3 more than a Wii but I am going to wait for more games, a price drop, and my extra 10% off that I get Christmas time. Until then, I'll just stick to playing my PS2, but I will eventually be a PS3 owner.
@ceilingFANBOY: Same for me (about bying a Ps3)and everyone I know who want a console.
I had a ps3 with motorstorm and RFOM. I thought the games rocked when they came out. RFOM was awsome online but single player was to short. Motorstarm only had 8 tracks and got boring quickly. Beyond that there is nothing for it worth getting. With reports that Lair and Heavenly sword were bad games I ended up selling my PS3 at a huge loss, At least I had enough to pick up a 360, gears of war and oblivion. I must say Gears of War was 100% better then RFOM. Ill probably pick up a new ps3 5 years down the road when its cheaper and actually has at least one playable game that will keep me entertained for more then a day.
