50 Cent Behind Closed Doors

I got a chance to sit down with Aaron Blean, a producer on 50 Cent s Bulletproof, a little earlier today. Blean showed me through the unedited intro movie and then let me check out some early gameplay while he explained some of the cool new mechanics that are in the game.

Bulletproof is a third-person shooter where you take on the role of a re-imagined 50 Cent. In the game s world, 50 Cent hasn t had any successes in the music industry and is instead a street hustler who still hangs with his homies, the G-Unit.

The game opens with 50 Cent getting a call for help from a friend, but when he and his unit show up the whole thing turns out to be a set-up.

The game s mechanics are pretty amazing. The plan is for the game to have 10 levels, each with as many as five missions, and 20 weapons. Blean says playing straight through the game, which shouldn t be easy, will take 10 to 20 hours.

Some of the cooler in-game features include more than 20 counter-kill moves. These are moves where you sneak in, grab the bad guy and then execute a highly-stylized, cinematic kill move. Some of the ones I saw included knocking a shotgun pointed at your away, yanking it from the guy s hands and then shooting him in the stomach with it. Another was a vicious, blood-spraying knife stab to the neck. The look a lot like the kills shown on the short clip that s been out for a bit.

You can also grab mobile cover by hiding behind a dumpster on wheels and then dragging it around in front of you as you move. Another cool feature is the ability to search the bodies of the dead. A search turns up jewelry, cash, drugs and cellies. You can convert all of the stuff into cash to use for buying weapons later on in the game. The game supports taking hostages as well, allowing you to use them for cover or interrogate them.

The game s graphics are pretty details and very gory, with sprays of blood hitting the TV screen during certain kills.

Outside the game play, Bulletproof also includes tons of 50 Cent unlockable content. All said, the game disc will have four hours of 50 Cent's music, including both of his albums and some music made exclusively for the game. There will also be more than an hour s worth of music videos. A Mixlab built into the game will allow you to create your own re-mixes to listen to during game play.

The game looks like a slick action shooter that will attract a lot of hardcore gamer attention and is a must for any fan of 50 Cent.

Blean said the rapper himself got some time with it just a week or two ago and really liked what he saw. I liked it too, does that mean I can be part of the G-Unit?

Full Disclosure: Vivendi did drop a tea-saucer-sized piece of bling around my neck before I left, but it in now way effected my impressions of the game, which I m going to give a 20 out of 10 when it comes out.
