DS Lite Launch: Some Sort of Confirmation

    chairsofmap.jpg

"Did you bring your own folding chairs?" a voice asks. There's a chubby faced man standing next to the seated rotund gentleman.

"No, the Sofmap staff are providing them," I shoot back.

Like clockwork, Sofmap brings a folding chair for the latest addition to our line. How many chairs do they have? I wonder.

The chubby faced man sits down, and not missing a beat, the rotund gentleman launches into a conversation. Turns out the chubby-faced guy was also at Yodobashi. He shows us a few digi-pics he took on his cell phone. "Not very good pics," he says over and over again.

    How was Yodobashi Camera?

"There were people in tents," he tells me. "And most of the people in line were old ladies. And they probably weren't even buying the portables for their grandchildren."

I check our line. There is one woman. She's sixth in line. I'm eighteenth.

A Sofmap employee passes clicking a number counter.

"Will we be able to buy a DS Lite?" asks the Rotund Gentleman.
    "Yes."
Great! A huge weight is lifted from my shoulders. Yet, the stabbing sensation in my stomach remains.
"But only one per customer," the Sofmap employee adds.
    Sucksville.
"Do we have to wait or will you give us a reservation ticket?"
"You have to wait until we open at 11:00 pm."

Ugh. A homeless guy on a bicycle bound with crushed cans glides by and says, "Minna-san, asa hayai" (Everyone's up early).

    Almost five hours to go.
