CVG has hammered the gavel on multi-platform Assassin's Creed (why don't we get a gavel?). So which version does CVG say we should pick up?
Under a microscope the PS3 version does look a bit sharper when the two versions are running side by side.OK, so even though the two versions are close, that means graphics go to the PS3. Err...it's never that simple, is it?
The Xbox 360 version makes up for this with (arguably) better controls and we're also told it runs two or three frames faster than the PS3 cousin, though no-one's going to notice that.So which version do we buy?? They both sound so...ultimately similar. How do we choose between two products that are so...equal?
Ubisoft...did a good job. Flamewarthower...running out of fuel. Fanboys...becoming wildly apathetic. The world...running our of ellipsis...

slight better graphics...or slighty better fps..
its all good!
*drooools* I want me some of that assassin action \o/
YAY! YAY! I've got Assasin's Creed, YAY!
So, this game goes both ways? Sorry, i fail at the funnies. =[
Most folks will probably make the easy call of buying the one for the system that they have. People with both, however, face a grueling choice. Flip a coin? Names from a hat? Maybe just go with whatever is already hooked up to the TV?
It's a hard life for some in these complicated times.
Am i the only one who read the IGN review? Dont think ill pick it up anymore, disappointed :(
@Habits:
I own both systems, and I went with the 360 version solely for achievement points. Yes, I'm an achievement whore. >_> Watch my system RROD...*knocks on wood*
They're essentially identical from everything that I've read. So, if you own both, just buy it for the system you use most. Or the 360 if you want the achievements. Personally, I'm getting this on my 360 but waiting until I'm done with Mass Effect and Super Mario Galaxy.
@Habits:
Well, the deal-breaker for me is Rumble and Achievements.
If the Dual-Shock 3 was out, I would probably get it for the PS3. But I dunno, ever since last gen, a game just feels hollow to me if it doesn't rumble.
Madness. This comparison nonsense has got to stop unless full details and visual proof (from a fully calibrated capture card/device) can be given.
Gamespot said the exact OPPOSITE to what you just wrote above Mark...
I quote "There are few differences between the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions. PS3 owners are blessed with a slightly more solid frame rate, although the 360 version features a little more contrast in the lighting, so it's pretty much a wash."
We keep seeing washed out looking PS3 footage, but half the time it just appears the capture device (or TV) has the gamma set far too high, or the resolution the game is being run in (or captured) is causing odd blurring of textures etc.
Someone should get a handle on this lot somehow - before we end up having to endure not only the fanboy splurge that seems to follow these posts, but the mass of these inaccurate articles every week.
Which version is slightly less repetitive? Thats right I said it!
Which version has achievements?
Ubisoft?
Good port?
Is the world ending?
Bah, I just registered to mention achievements on the 360, but Y2K beat me to it!! I'll never recover by anonymous dignity now!!
Not starting a flame war
but I chose the PS3 version because IN MY OPINION, the playstation controller has always been best for action/adventure games and fighting games while the 360 ones have been best with shooters and racing games.
Just so no one will throw this at me
yes the 360 has achievements- im not a achievements whore
yes the 360 has rumble- true, so? I still chose the PS3 version
Ill see for myself, as my buddy has a ps3, and I gots the elite.
Regardless if the graphics are a bit sharper 360 will obviously pwn.
I am a bit disappointed in the Assassin's Creed (X360) story.
*** SPOILER ***
WTF is up with the TotalRecall/VanillaSky angle? WTF?!? Pretty lame.
@Chrinkster:
Meh, Hill didn't seem to be the type of person to play a game like Assassin's... He was complaining about gameplay elements that I personally enjoy, like sitting on a bench and eavesdropping. It really nails the patience of setting up a hit.
Then again, I also freaking loved the Hitman games.
I honestly I can't stand the 360 controller sometimes. It feels way too clunky when doing alot of button pressing. Still, who can pass up those "2 or 3 frames faster"? They make all difference!
There's no multiplayer reason to choose the 360...althought there's acheivments...
@Chrinkster:
/sigh. I read it. I suppose I'll try to rent it now.
As usual, I went with the 360 version for the achievements. It's here sitting at my desk, tempting me to leave work to play.
I'm fairly glad I own both consoles so that I don't have to care about these things. I have already come to the conslusion by now that most games that are multiplatformed between 360 and PS3 are pretty much 98% exactly the same in terms of looks. So really all I care about between the ports are the extra features. If the 360 version of a port has online features I'm more inclined to purchase that one because of how intuitive Xbox Live is over the clusterfuck PSN can be sometimes.
Is it just me or are these comparisons simply titilating headlines to get the fanboys to read the article to see if their console is best, only the writers puss out and say both are pretty much equal?
See, I am confused.
Yesterday when IGN put up their review. In the PS3 review they wrote along the lines of "The PS3 version suffers incredibly poor frame rates at times, and its an announce at first, but later levels get really bad" But it was removed. Then their head 2 head video comparison shows the 360 version vs the PS3 one that even when u spin the camera, the PS3 one tears and drops frames drastically at times.
Then I read the gamespot review which SAYS the exact oppisite, that the 360 version is the one that has poor frame rate. What makes no sense is that I have been playing the game and have seen very little, if any drop in frame rate on the 360 version.
This is one of those games that EVERY review site says something different. IGN hated it, gamespot loved it, 1up hated it, gamesradar loved it, they all say different shit, its mind boggling.
Any games that release on both platforms that are this similar to each other I'll be playing on my PS3 simply because after my RROD experience I get a little nervous every time I boot up the 360.
Here's my question, to owners of either system...Do you agree more with Gamespots review (9.0) or IGN's (7.7)? I'm really torn, the game looks great, but the reviews are all so different. I don't really trust either source, one is owned by News Corp, and so is by definition corrupt, and one just has generally crappy reviews.
I normally wouldn't ask, but with some sources saying it pretty much sucked, and others saying it's one of the best games for either system, I turn to you, the learned Kotaku elite, to give me guidance, to tell me if I should just save my money for Rock Band downloads and/or Uncharted.
@strangerdanger: Exactly. I have all 3 next gen consoles, but I always seem to get the 360 version of multi-platform games. All other things equal, I like the achievements. Perhaps once the PS3 Home trophies are up and running, I may reconsider....
@Chrinkster:
The original IGN review or the updated one?
IGN's review has created such a conflict in me. If I don't buy it, it'll keep calllling me, and it'll keep calllling me....
Fine, fine, fuck it, I'll buy it, I'll buy it, I'll buy it *walks out of house*
*Gets in car, sits.....*
*Walks back into house*
AAAAAAAGGhhhh....
*Walks back out of house*
@Scazza:
Gamespot said the PS3 edges out the 360 in framerate. It's all objective.
Seems to be a matter of which controller you prefer. Or which console you have.
@myxylplyx:
Holy Run-on sentences, Batman! Oops.
@strangerdanger: Updated one, jus came out 2day i think
This game seem sto be gettin gsome varying reviews, from mid six to 10, depending on the source. I just don't see what everyone is so excited about. Everytime I look at this game, I went to fall asleep. And the reviews say it's uber-repetitive?
Just not my bag, I guess. I'll wait for Mass Effect next week :)
@Kai_: I know man, thats why I find it weird that every site has a different thing. IGN says 360 version looks/runs better, gamespot says exact oppisite.
Personally I really dont think it matters, people will buy it for whatever, and the games are close enough to each other that the difference is near negligible, but hey, gotta comment in a post like this...
If your extremely anal person this would really matter to you. It's like idiots comparing COD4 on PS3 and 360. Seriously no matter which version you play, its fun.
Screw IGN. I'll pick it up, play it, and see how repetitive it really is. I'll be playing Assassin's Creed!
But what if things start to get a bit boring?
What if enjoyment becomes an eventual hate?
Funny, for multiplatform games unless there is a significant improvement, I always pick up the PS3 version over the 360. Mostly having to deal with the hassle of the RROD and returning the system then losing the ability to play my xbox downloads without having to either a) have system hooked up to net or b) call MS support get a renumeration live points and that BS.
I love my games on XBOX 360, I really do but the crappy reliability and having already gone through the pains of the return procedure has really kept my machine off.
What's up with these comparisons with games? We've never went as far as we did with last gen games.
This is the place where Microsoft shines: two identical versions, and Microsoft can count on multiple-system homes getting the Xbox version thanks to achievements.
Argh...this wouldn't even be an issue for me if the PS3 had award trophies. Hurry up and add them, Sony!
Oh, and to you people choosing which system to buy it on based on having some pointless meaningless achievement score attached to it, you are so incredibly pathetic. The whole video game industry is laughing at you, at how pathetically gullible you are to hand over money for some 'points' that do nothing.
My Gamerscore is 999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999, with a 100X multiplier. I gave the score to myself, wrote it down on a coaster, and it is officially less lame than any of your scores because I didn't have to do one single thing I didn't want to do to get it. Half of those points I gave myself for selling back a game once it got boring, instead of wasting my life trying to get every achievement.
It's people like you who make gamers look bad. I spit in your general direction.
ha.... the best part is how there eyes can determine a 2-3 frames per second difference.... where can I get some eyes like that..
Ok.... What I am upset about (got the PS3 collectors) is the size of the bloody figure. IT LOOKS NOTHING like the images shown and is only around an inch tall. The images here and on other publications made it seem the figure was the size (at least) of a 360 game case.
WHAT GIVES?
Otherwise, A-Creed may not be what everyone expected, but I got what I expected and is happy.
My hats off to Ubisoft for making a game that even though slightly different on both systems aren't so lopsided on one end or another. *cough* Madden 08 *cough*
To be honest this comparison nonsense is a bit silly. It should be only used to find out why companies couldn't replicate the same thing on the opposing system. Not to be used by fanboys to push supremecy. Well......I guess it wouldn't make messageboards as fun to read if that happened huh? ^_^
I'll wait for the PC version. Can't play this game without K/M.
How can you not favor the 360 version, when graphically they show the same? The controller is comfortable, there's rumble, there's achievements.
i think you will chose to buy this game like this :
if you got the 360 you will buy the 360 version
if you got PS3 you will buy Uncharted
