Okami may be old news for most of you, but since it's not out yet in PAL regions I'm going to milk it just a little big longer. IGN Australia spoke with producer Atsushi Inaba, and while it's obviously a thinly-veiled advertisement/promo trip for the new Okami art book, when the game looks this gorgeous I can take a little shilling.
Predictably, the interview is mostly about the art style of the game and the inspiration behind its design, with the exception of this heart-breaking moment, where Inaba gets all bitter about Okami's sales figures and Clover's closure:
I think that it is becoming almost "impossible" for an original game to succeed financially. This can't be blamed on anyone but it's a simple fact that an original game doesn't appeal to the majority of gamers. Entertainment does not have to be profound and we did not have any intention for Okami to be seen in this way. If you thought otherwise, maybe we should have developed the title in a way that it would have been received as pure entertainment.
You know what, reading that makes me a little sad. Chin up, mate, a lot of people dug Clover's games. Don't let Capcom get you down.
