I've made it no secret in my short time here that I am deeply in love with the Monkey Island franchise. The exquisite artwork, the delightful scripts, and in particular the gorgeous music. Even in MIDI, it was captivating.
The Monkey Island score was the work of Michael Z. Land, who worked on many many of the old LucasFilm games and was personally responsible for the development of the iMUSE system, which synced game events with music cues.
But I digress. This performance is no mere piano recital. The player puts a panache and intensity into it that reminds me of the incredible Chico Marx. It's just fun to watch.
There's a three-headed monkey behind you and he's nice and squishy. Lean back and let the Caribbean joy wash over you, billowing out your pantaloons like the stained sails on a ghostly galleon.
Special thanks to DJ Your Savior for linking me this. The guy who put it on YouTube has several more, including a Final Fantasy/Monkey Island combo medley.
I dig the little nod to Jojo with the metronome there. ELIZA GAUGER
