While I'd normally be content to shun "machinima", following Valve's impressively witty introductions to Heavy Weapons Guy and The Soldier, I now long for a Valve-produced feature on the characters of Team Fortress 2. Say, why not a Saturday morning cartoon? Based on the bar-raising intro to the game's Engineer, seen above, it's starting to become less of a request and more of a demand. Valve, I beg of you, at the very least include each of these cinematic mini-masterpieces on the game disc.

I like the little counter that goes up every time the guns kill somebody. It's a minor yet very funny detail.
Pardon me while I dissolve into a puddle of happy.
They keep getting more and more awesome.
The Engineer sounds like a class I'd enjoy but probably suck at playing, as I do with all strategy games. Soldier ahoy.
Man this stuff is great. There is so much detail in everything they do.
FUCKING AWESOME. When is this being released for the PC? GOD DAMNIT this looks good.
I'm truly speechless at how great this is.
I love these things.
I hope for a TF miniseries too!
@Sabre_Justice: It's actually easier than some of the other classes, as sentry guns function independent of your ping and reflexes. All you need is to know how to place your gun for maximum effect, and how to keep it repaired.
I think of the Engineer class as bringing a little bit of RTS into the FPS world.
More please. This one is not quite as brilliant as the first one, not by a long shot but still way better than most television that's not House MD.
"AHHHhhhhh... My Arm!"
LOL
@Vanst: That's what I'm saying. I suck at RTS games, even though I love the creativity and unit variety. I'd be more of an asset to my team with a rocket launcher.
Be still, my heart...
If they made a bunch of these and just coupled them all together and charged 10 dollars to see it at the movies i'd go twice.
I was an engineer on Enemy Territory about 90 percent of the time and it looks like I'll be an engineer on TF2 as well. I can't wait.
He reminds me of a Td in Warcraft 3. It's exactly what you do.
But how does he play the guitar with those gloves on?
As a person who likes Halo, it's TF2 movies like this that make me think "Halo who?" This FPS is number one on my list.
@Improbable: Fingerpicking with left hand, right hand is ungloved.
Team Fortress 2 is definitely one of my most anticipated games coming out this year. I definitely have to go get it when it comes out.
I love the engineer. It was my favorite class to play in TFC. A gun turret placed in a nice little convenient choke point, and me hiding around the corner to take out anybody it might have missed.
Unfortunately, the demo men could always be a problem (pesky grenades). So some backup was always nice.
Oh, engineer, help me solve this problem: How will I survive the next six days whilst I wait to play you in the TF2 beta?
These shorts are easily becoming the most impressive game adverts ever.
I want a t-shirt involving a "structurally superfluous new be-hind" somewhere on it.
O, stout engineer, light my path: how shall I survive the next six days whilst waiting for your arrival in the TF2 beta?
Oops, so that's where my other comment went off to.
@Improbable:
Now he knows how Strong Bad feels.
@ChickenOfTheSea: Dammit, switch that around.
I am all for many more of these shorts. I sincerely hope they make one for every character in the game. Forget for promotional purposes, just keep making them even after it's come out.
@Dorgort: Haha, nice!
i played both team fortress 2 and halo3 the same day at GC and man, did halo feel 3 dull in comparison.
Sure, its a different setting and halo 3 has a full blown campaign and what not all but tf2 was so much more fun and the few (in comparison to the feature set of halo 3) features that where there were so fleshed out in style and gameplay value to every last bit, awesome.
(i played mp mode in both and while in halo 3´s mp mode driving around with all the vehicles was fun nothing seemed to quite port the charme, style and dedication that tf2 has).
I´ll still get halo3, too but yeah, i know tf2 will keep me busy in mp way longer.
The orange (or black) box is really a must buy package, i think it´s wicked what valve is packing into a box there,i hope they sell a ton of those things to make a propper example to other publishers that giving propper value to customers pays out more for the publisher aswell (as most other publishers seem to have converted to:
sell halfway stable single game, then patch the tons of bugs after launch and then get as much money as possible with tidbit feature additions for inflated micro transaction fees. Nothing against patches to fix issues or add features, neither against a propper addition to the game for a small fee, but yeah, you know how the balance pans out these days normally: horse armor ;) ).
haha i was exspecting him to be scottish but he turned out quite well... least the snipers still an ozzie "right at em, right at em"
OMG! They have got to do the Spy next and the Medic. I just know there's simply more hilarity there. Keep them coming Valve please.
These are too great...I've realized that I'm actually more excited about TF2 on 360 than the Halo 3 MP.
Well, not counting 4 player online co-op.
These videos of TF2 character classes truly are fresh blasts of personality.
@argh: Now that you mention it, snippets from these "Meet The" videos would make for funny commercials for the TF2 part of The Orange Box if it were to be advertised on television.
Oh god... when he kicked the hand and the turret shot at it... XD
Bring on teh funny!
I mean, seriously, how come every time I doubt Valve, they come out with one of these gems? Better yet, why do I ever doubt Valve? This is gold. They need to do the Scout as this super fast talking nerd with a lisp. That would own.
im actually looking more forward to this then to Halo3's MP
I am completely right in saying
DO WANT.
DO VERY WANT.
Hope to god that all of these will be out by the time the Orange Box is.
Oh man, I just want to see all the character class videos. The one I want to see most is the medic class.
Oh, does the engie get to set up multiple guns simultaneously in this one? Or is he just babysitting everyone else's guns?
These clips made me go from "Wait, there's another one of those Team Fortress games coming out?" to "Wow, I want that thing".
I do sincerely hope for more, and I'll definatley be doing a steam preorder for the beta.
I'm just waiting for the demoman vid, was my class back in the day. I'm assuming he will be swiggin' from that bottle of hooch ive seen him holding in the soldier video and some screenshots. Should be a laugh if he is fighting with a gut-full of booze.
Oh god I love these so much. I hope they do all of the classes.
No words....should've sent...a poet
I'm pretty sure this video has been on Xbox Live for ages, unless that was a different class on there.
I'm loving these intro videos and there awesome sense of humor and cleverness. In fact, I honestly didn't think I would even bother checking this game out but after seeing a couple of these videos I might just have to give it a shot :)
Anyone else notice that that song he's playing on the guitar is an instrumental version of "Someone Else's Song" by Wilco? Pitch. Perfect. So sold.
@Voryn: That was the soldier, I think.
I love these videos, but my heart aches for the Pyro to get here.
You guys realize that other than Duke Nukem Forever, this was the runner up for the Wired Lifetime Achievement in Vaporware? Wow, it's been almost 10 years since TF2 was announced in some fashion. Man, I'm old.
I like the way the Engineer's expressions are as subtle as the best stuff out of Hollywood. And I love this videos. I say bring them on, regardless of any other considerations. Just keep making these things. They've made me very much want TF2.
They definately pick the right voices. I see the sniper with an Australian accent, the spy with an Ocean's 12 french guy tone, the Scout like a loud-mouthed sports fan always out of breath, demo man is Samuel L. Jackson, Medic could be British, and the pyro like a hyped-up scientist that likes to use big words. Hopefully they make one for each!
Haha! They perfectly shown how you play an engineer. Build your guns, sit back, relax, and start counting up the score. This is looking so fun. I could seriously start watching a cartoon series of this. Gimme more valve! I'm hooked.
Hahahahahahahahaha that was just brilliant.
@Uncalm: I think the pyro is going to be a fucking schizo. He already plays air guitar with a fire axe...
@whitey9: Actually you can start playing the beta next monday if you preorder the Orange Box on steam. Otherwise you have to wait until October 9th.
@SwapMeet: Yeah but when you watch the videos for this game in 2000 and then the videos for this version, it was worth the wait.
I've been saying I wanted a TV series based off TF2 now since the Heavy trailer. They could easily distribute it over steam. EASILY.
Or put it on tv, though the only channel it would probally do well is on FOX, and their saturday monring cartoons time, thats 4kids, and they tone down all violence and rape everything.
But yes. Tv show = neccesary for survival.
So far Heavy Weapon Guy has the best line (in my view), "Cry some more! [manic laugher]"
I think a movie is more likely than anything. The devs probably want to start working on more games rather than what is basically merchandising.
It still looks very Incredibles... I swear someone from Pixar must have had a hand.
This is my favorite one so far, I think. Any time you can get someone to mention philosophy and it's funny, that's a good sign.
