Does that headline make absolutely no sense to you? Then watch the video...but it might not help. These 7-foot Tesla coils shoot sparks up to 12 feet in length. The neat part is that the music you hear is actually not coming from external speakers, but the Tesla coils themselves as they interpret (via lightning bolt action) a midi signal fed from a laptop. My friends, this is the stuff the Internet is all about.

Thats is sick...
i could have sworn someone posted a story like this before, and im not referring to the c&c one.
Wow, that gave me a tesla coil in my pants!
Wow... That is awesome beyond words.
Haha, wow. 2 Tesla coil-related articles in such a short span, both of which are pretty damn awesome. Goes to show you, even if you find physics boring, there is always something awesome like that out there to steal your attention. Good stuff.
I saw this quite a while ago. Pretty cool, but to me it gets boring.
This is why the Internet is serious business. Good stuff.
I wonder if my husband will let me get some Tesla Coils for our backyard...hmmm
Now make it play some dragonforce
okay, that is bad ass.
Two Tesla posts! And Borders just called to let me know my copy of The ULTIMATE Tesla Coil Design and Construction Guide has arrived... this is a sign. *puts on safety goggles* To the lab!
I wonder if they can sustain longer notes. They seem to do fine with something like SMB, which doesn't require holding any notes at all, but I imagine there would be a lot of static if you tried anything that requires nuance.
Still, very cool!
sweeeeeeeet....
that is ridiculously cool
wait... all that and they didn't do the "running out of time high speed remix?"
do it again!
this is seriously impressive !
It's crazy what some people come up with and can do...awesome
Reminds me of
[www.youtube.com]
:P Now those are some nice bug zappers.
I have seen this in person, and this video does not do the sound justice. These tesla coils are extremely loud, almost deafening.
wow..... just.... wow.
He should've ended it with the flag sound & completion song...
awesome, now if it could only play "through the fire and flames" by Dragonforce from Guitar Hero III... :P
why doesnt't regular lightning do this? ... would've made a thunder storm even more awesome
Here's another singing Tesla Coil performance that features Mario music, as well as the Tetris theme:

Clearly this must have been Nikolai Tesla's greatest scientific dream.
All it's missing is David Bowie
@epionx111: I was thinking the same thing. Awesome but I got bored with it after it started repeating. Scientists they are, musicians they aren't.
Man...can these turn those lightning bolts into a wireless charging device already!
Still...lightning bolt sounds are freaking impressive.
$10 it ends up on a japanese variety show in the next year if not 6 months.
"New soviet tesla with tetris tune! L block domination!"
I wonder if the ground gets scorched when the bolts touch it... Or I wonder if someone gets too close to the Tesla Coil - is it a mild jolt or like a Benjamin Franklin-style pwnage?
needs more cowbell
I think i've seen this before but with a different set of electric thingamabobs. Why isn't the place erupting in a fury of electric fire? Some of those bolts looked like they hit the floor.
I remember this video. In fact, I could swear it was already posted here a while ago. It indeed rocks.
@chainlink13: Actually Tesla did A LOT of experimentation with wireless power. Also, if you hold a light bulb near one of these things it wil light up... pretty bad ass. Lots of cool videos around the 'net on that too.
Hmmm... so data sent via laptop being interpretted by tesla coils via electrical bolts. I see potential here for new methods of information transfer.
But that's just the mad scientist in me showing.
That, without a doubt, is one of the best videos I have had the pleasure of watching. Amazing!
This is how Tesla coils lure people to their doom; by playing catchy Mario theme tunes and then BAM, you start doing the electric Hare Hare Yukai in fast mode
UNDERGROUND THEME!...or at least STAR POWER THEME!
@UnknownFactor: Assuming someone can find a midi of it this is in theory possible. I would definitely love to see that, but I don't have a couple of Tesla coils handy.
Wow another thing the tesla coil would be good at besides powering planes instead of fossil fuels.
I'm pretty sure this was posted over at HardOCP about 6 months ago. Still a cool video! :D
Smarts + Free Time + Two Spare Tesla Coils + Mario Bros. = Awesome
It's simple math really.
that is awesome
That some thing I wish I could see live.
that'd be neat if they could hook up 5 coils to use a song with five channels for a really intense display.
@Grahamunculus:
Hahahahah
Those Allies won't know what hit them when they find these things in the soviet base.
AWESOME!!!! Even though they don't really look that much alike or anything, this is nostalgic of C&C Red Alert...
That's awesome!!
Gotta love 73# 1/V732/V375.
Old.
Tesla's spirit beyond the grave is overjoyed by this demonstration. Take that, Edison!
kewl coilz dewd
Tesla Coils are full of WIN!
'awwww yeah' eye witness guy... i hate 'awwww yeah' eye witness guy
Now if he could only mass produce a miniature version, he'd get my order.
And then Edisons goons show up to burn his house down.
I'm sorry, I must be a huge geek/physics nerd to say this, but this is like one of the coolest things I have seen in my entire life...
Its a little known fact that this exactly what Tesla envisioned when creating the coils.
