You may have seen it by now, as the revelation that Capcom was finally getting around to Street Fighter IV happened about 2 years ago in internet time, but if you missed it, here's your first look at the next Ken versus Ryu throwdown. No gameplay footage to speak of, but at the very least, it's video proof that Capcom is actually doing it. I should have believed.

5 bucks it's in 3d!
That image of Ken screams "child molester".
Who spilled the ink?
(kidding aside...I am really pumped about this)
this is an amazing video.
That was an awesome trailer. Is it just me or did Ryu just get his ass handed to him by Ken?
The aesthetics need to be like this, but play in 2D.
NO i think you mean ken got his ass handed to him by ryu.. an at the end ryu is finishing him off with his famous move shinku haddoken. As for the artsy look to the trailer i like it as an artist myself its well pretty sexy LOL.
If this game isn't in 2D, then it isn't Street Fighter. That said, the trailer looks cool, but how about some gameplay footage...or at least some information?
So...Ryu is Amaterasu...and Ken is Amaterasu? I'm confused by all the Okami-esque paint flying off them...
So is this what that Countdown was about? And the reason that the Capcom website was down for at least an hour earlier today!?
Cool - well worth it :o)
OMG YES. Capcom you better have done such a good job on this! can't wait to see some gameply.
Now if they only show as much care for a Chun-Li shower scene, my life will be complete.
Did they reveal/anyone figure out what the secret message was on the Capcom site?
[blogs.capcomusa.com]
3D.
It will be so.
i hope this is the art direction they take the series in. keep it in 2d but with that 3d look
Love it, better have Sagat. If the characters are 3d models, well that's ok, as long as the game plays like a 2d fighter. ;)
It may not have shown any gameplay footage, but at least it gives us a look and feel of what to generally expect. But the looks of it, I'm going to be very impressed!
OK, so the ultimate question they failed to answer with this trailer is: 2D or 3D?
I think it will be 3D, but still a 2D fighter in gameplay.
I'm noticing a severe lack of "tatsumaki senpuukyaku!" and likewise screaming. That aside, that was very nicely done.
I'm interested to see how they go about this.
It's a cool artsy trailer for sure. Can't wait to see some in-game shots.
Ahhhhhhhhhh YEAH!
Kewl video.
I hope the game has 3D models that play in the 2d realm, just like the recent Ghost 'n Goblins for the PSP. That game played just like the previous ones but looked beautiful.
I know since Ken is a rich boy he must have but has Ryu ever, in his entire life, worn a pair of shoes? I wonder about Akuma as well.
Please for the love of god..make it 2D...use super hi-res sprites like GG and SFIITEHD remix...
HELL YES!
If this game is in 3D I will fly my ass to Japan and tiger uppercut every Capcom executive I can find.
How this must be done:
3d, but primarily play as a 2d fighter. Certain moves (attacks) will project (throw) the character into the background or foreground which will also be done in 3d and be completely destructible.
Of course... please.. god in heaven .. keep that awesomely delicious art style from that trailer... keep it a little darker than past versions... keep the gameplay fast (as in 2d fighter speed... lil bit faster than sf3)
This must be epic. I am psyched. I will kill babies if this doesn't deliver. Capcom flavored babies.
Is there a system for it?
RYU AND KEN CONFIRMED.
That's an awesome trailer. It'll be nice to see some gameplay footage too.
I wonder if they're going to try and give the character some back story like most modern fighters do. In game I mean, not like another SF tv show or movie.
Maybe some CG movies when you beat the game with each character like in Tekken...
@TheIrishNinja:
i loled
Why does everything always have to be darker? Rich colors can be just as amazing. Browns blacks and greys. That's all you see in some games.
FINALLY. Along with SNK's KoF revival, this is an awesome time to be a fighting game fan. This better not be a 3D fighter, though. And I didn't think Ryu and Ken could ever look any worse in 3D than in the SFEX3 intro, but...
@ barbara
i agree it should be like that hopefully its not 3d...cause then it is the end of 2d lol kidding but yea 2d please?
Wow, I'd play a game that looked anything like that. Quite pretty.
And you can't make a game like this in 3-D. Reworking the entire battle system for 3-D just wouldn't happen on the basis that all of Ryu and Ken's attacks - or anyone else in Street Fighter - would miss if someone took a single step out of the frame. HADOKEN! **sidestep**
I'd actually still like everything to be frame by frame, even if they character models are rendered in 3-D. Something like the Hurricane Kick would just look ridiculous if you saw just how fast a photo-realistic Ryu was spinning.
And besides, 3-D fighting games have been out for well over a decade. Capcom sticks to their roots with their 2-D fighters and make a killing at it.
If a fighting game actually looked like this, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Hell, any game, really.
This could be really good if the put the effort into it. Could put sega back on the map. But they musn't over-japanese-ise it...if you get what I mean. All the beat em ups today like soul calibur and virtua fighter just scream japanese and it's getting repetative. Street fighter feature predominantly european or american fighters, I hope they think about this when designing the art.
if its 3d im feaking shunning it and will refer capcom as crap-com. i bet you it only uses 3 bloody buttons. oh ya at least the devil kings fighter is in 3d.
I liked the little trailer, but the faces took me out of it. The rest of everything looked so much better then their faces. If it's not 2d, or AT LEAST 3d characters that fight in 2d, then what's the point. I agree, super high-res animation like the HD version.
you know, capcom themselves didnt work on the ex series, arika (full of ex capcom employess, but still) did and what else have they done worth mentioning? maybe they could get game republic (a studio founded by the creator of street fighter, they made genji and folklore on ps3) i still want this to be in 2d by the udon team though.
Why do I have a feeling that actual game will neith look nor play ANYTHING like that?
Trailer pretty much tells us nothing other than the game is "really" in the works. All I can really say is that this shit better not be in 3D. And if they are 3D the fighting better still be 2D.
@haggen: Devil Kings fighter is in 2D, but I think that's what you meant. >_>
3D characters in a 2D world...I'm guessing.
@TRT-X: Cause this was a cinematic.
If I were to hazard a guess, I would say that SF4 is going to be cel shaded but keep the 2D gameplay style. Perhaps they will do something to make it seem a little 3D, like throwing someone into the forground and having the fighting plane rotate, but I doubt that they will have the full out side-stepping 3d. Like someone said above, it just wouldn't work.
@Nayl: Didn't know Sega was developing this. Uh oh.
@H_Chinaski:
Dude, they'll just sidestep to the left or the right.
nice style poor choice in music though
and sega developing... oh dear
"Teaser" is the key word here. Basically, the main purpose of the Street Fighter IV teaser is Capcom saying, "This is Street Fighter IV. It exists. It's being worked on. And it is most definitely coming for you all. Recognize, respect, and prepare thyselves, bitches."
In reality, this is all they needed for their megaton announcement.
That's one sweet throw escape, Ken.
Ok maybe I'm watching a different trailer than Everyone else but I have some legitimate "issues" with the art style.
Ken I can almost forgive looking like HE-MAN, after that eyebrow shot I was genuinely expecting him to pull out a sword and shout "BY THE POWER OF GREYSKULL",
But Ryu?!?
WTF!!!
...
...
...
Look at his HEAD!
He Looks like Superman and the Incredible Hulk had a love child!
Also NO amount of training can make a japanese boy THAT BROAD across his shoulders, He's got to be taller than half of Japan just laying on his side!
I don't even want to imagine what E.Honda would look like in this style, just Ken and Ryu already look to be a shade over 400 pounds apiece poor Honda is going to need to be delivered to the ring by a forklift...
All in all WHAT THE H3LL?!!?
Wait wait, where does it say that Sega is developing it? I don't think that's true. I'm sure an internal Capcom team would do it. Why would Capcom have another studio work on a game that it's been making itself for decades?
@Stormrider900: Nobody said anything about Sega
Great clip. Style is not exactly what one would expect from Street Fighter, but would fit fighting game like a glove.
Well, I might as well start it up....
Ken >>>>>>> Ryu !!!!
That was very cool! I may need to go touch myself now.
@Buttah: White >>>>>>>> Red!
God, I'm so happy it was finally announced.. Jesus Christ, Capcom, how you have pleased me today!
Finally! Too bad they're opting for the 'dark' aesthetics, but that's okay anyway.
The KoF cast are a bunch of pussies compared to Ryu and Ken =D
I didn't really like the logo =/
I'm not sure why everyone is worried about Sega's involvement. VF is to 3D fighters what SF is to 2D, classic and technical.
I put the chance of a true 2D hand-drawn SF4 at roughly 0.
If the SF property is going to receive a 3D treatment there's none better qualified. Capcom certainly can't handle it themselves as demonstrated by the entire SFEX line.
THAT
WAS
GODLIKE!
@Balance_In_Life:
Ken is toying with Ryu. He's not doing a terrible lot of ass kicking, but he's thwarting all Ryu's attempts at kicking ass...so Ryu's all like "fuck this shit, here comes teh cheep!"
OH SNAP!!!!!!!
