I was left unsatisfied by Star Trek: Legacy, but I'm willing to give Bethesda another chance with Conquest. The mixture of MechCommander-style arcade action with turn-based strategy could be just the ticket. As to where this ticket will take us is yet to be determined.

For the Wii and PS2??
Awesome, totally getting this for the Wii
thats just ass... im sorry. I have never been impressed with ANY Star Trek game beyond Klingon Honor Guard (which as a FPS made sense with the Klingons instead of the Federation) and the Star Trek 25th Anniversary game which is still a classic.
Looks a hell of a lot like that Star Wars: Empire at War game. In fact, it looks like pretty much the same thing. Doesn't really strike me as very 'trekky'.
You know, watching the trailer, and getting to the part where it says, "Achieve galactic domination," with Star Trek music, it just felt really wrong with me. Granted, I've never played any of these kinds of Trek games, but the whole concept of galactic domination goes against every principle Roddenberry founded his two shows upon. Does that bother anyone else?
Well, as the federation, maybe. Less so if you are playing the Borg.
Bridge Commander still offers the most satisfying ship to ship experience.
The tolerant nature of Star Trek fans is amazing to me. Constantly capitalized on, to the disappointment of the fans. Legacy was an okay game, but man could it have been better.
Color me unimpressed.
Looks very very weak.
Needs much more Borg.
@minister.of.rhetoric:
I agree 100%. It would have been better to have different view points in this game ("Assimilate Everything" for the Borg, "Crush the Federation" for the Klingon, etc. etc.)
@Falconfire:
..gotta agree with you there, that does look pretty horrible. I don't understand why they don't make just an adventure game and have the flight missions as a minigame. Trekkies will flock a game like that because we all know Star Trek is full of unadulterated action.
Didn't this happen 7 years ago? I beta tested this piece of garbage and it was so bad that I only lasted 2 days. Heres a link from the past for ya.

Hmm, this actually looks interesting. It would satisfy the Star Trek geek in me, AND the strategy geek.
I just hope and pray it's decent. Pretty much all Star Trek games ever have sucked horribly though, so I won't get my hopes up too high.
@yoni: Right, right. I mean, I do understand that these games are based on board games people have probably played since before TNG even existed, but what I would really like to see is a Star Trek game that poses moral questions the way the series did. When people talk about games ascending to more than mere distractions, I think Star Trek has a lot of potential to at least help in that regard.
But people get too tied up with space ships and alien battles, and it doesn't leave any room for that whole concept of pitting opposing ideas against each other and seeing which one is better and why. For example, the first major battle against the Borg in TNG was really an allegory that compared the strengths and weaknesses of collectivism and individualism. I'd like to see a game that forces me to weigh these philosophical issues, and live with the outcome (and not half-ass it in the end like Bioshock).
I might get this for the Wii.
@Tenth: For the most part, I think it's more malaise and indifference, at least it is for me. Comes with having Berman & Co. slowly run the entire franchise into the ground over the past 12 years or so. You just stop caring, and occasionally try to squeeze out some nugget of joy from what's served up - be it a game or otherwise.
No Borg, No interest
Honest to god, they have got to hire a new composer. They have used that same music for the last three Star Trek games they released! Sure, the music is alright, but variation is nice when it comes to this sort of thing.
Legacy was a big let down for me, and though I liked Tactical Assault, it was only a very basic version of the Starfleet Command games. This game looks decidedly meh to me.
@minister.of.rhetoric: It's called Mass Effect.
I know it's a bit of a reach, but that's basically what Mass Effect is. Mankind's first forays into space, building a place for ourselves, it's all there, just without the license. And the license? It would have attracted a few people, and turned away far more, because the "Star Trek" = "Nerd" association is one of the lasting legacies of the series, at least in the general mindset.
How can they make a good Star Trek game though? They have to go the RPG route. It's the only way to get that true Trek feeling. Not an FPS or RTS. If Bioware/EA could make a Star Trek RPG ala Mass Effect or KOTOR, it would make perfect sense and hopefully a good game.
@Tenth:
Thank god noone has ever taken advantage of Starwars fans by putting out crappy movies, games, expansions, books, comics, collectables, trading card games, pnp rpgs, ad nasuem.
With any franchise that has a loyal following, there will be explotation. There will be quality titles, but for every quality title you will see 10 developers milking the trademark for cash. Have a mediocre space combat game? Well, strip the graphics, and replace them with the enterprise, or tie fighters, rebrand it, and increase sales 30%.
One day, we will see the ulitmate battle, the Borg vs the Death Star.
Looks like boiled crap. Sorry, but ST games simply suck, and had continued to do so for a VERY long time. I have a larger sense of dread with the ST:MMO direction too.
@minister.of.rhetoric:
Deep Space Nine was all about galactic domination
unless the reviews are absolutely abysmal, i might rent this from gamefly for the wii and give it a shot.
this reminds me of that old game Star Control.... had strategy elements but when you were in conflict with enemy for territory, it went into an action over head mode.... i'll keep an eye on this one.
this is a maybe for me on the wii ... i am not a strat fan, but could be fun with some waggle.
@minister.of.rhetoric: I'm not a Trekkie at all (only seen about 6 total eps of TOS & TNG combined), and my eyebrows were raised when I saw that "ACHIEVE GALACTIC DOMINATION".
It doesn't just seem wrong; it seems glaringly, wholly wrong.
That looks pretty naff. My favourite Star Trek games have been the Elite Force games, Bridge Commander and the old Gameboy TNG game. I wish someone would make a next-gen amalgamation of those three, the Gameboy game was fairly open ended and wasn't just about shooting things, Bridge Commander gave you the realistic feel of commanding a ship and Elite Force gave you the freedom to explore your ship and the planets you visit. Now if someone could put all that into one game, it could be the best Trek game ever.
@Moonshadow101: I haven't been following Mass Effect since I can't afford a 360. But that does sound interesting to me. And you're probably right, the Star Trek brand probably draws less attention than a new IP.
@DJ Magneto: Yeah, I pretty much agree that a Star Trek RPG is really what would interest me more than a Star Trek action game.
@Avinash_Tyagi: You know, I didn't watch Deep Space 9. I don't want to start a flame war, but I will admit to being a Roddenberry loyalist, and that I probably have an unfairly snobby attitude about DS9, Voyager and Enterprise. I should probably see DS9 at some point, though, since Ronald D. Moore was heavily involved with it starting in its third season, and I love what Moore has done with Battlestar Galactica.
Reminds me a bit of netrek, I didn't see anything too impressive.
[www.netrek.org]
I was trying to follow what was going on in the trailer but all I could get was...
SHOT ZOOMS ARROUND REALLY FAST OR IT BLOWS UP!!!!
Def a rental before purchase.
I'm looking forward to it. DS9 is pretty much the only Trek I'm into, and this has the Cardassians and Dominion as major powers, not to mention the Breen.
I wonder how many Sites will be black listed this time for saying this game sucks.
Eh, might be worth a rent.
tbh they should of just made Star Trek Armada 3 instead of going off in this weird random crap get a fleet go to battles via boring risk style space map have fight go back... i mean sure armada paled in comparison of Homeworld, but it was probebly the only really fun star trek game made other than elite force... and like elite force they totally destroyed any sense of fun in the second one
it reminds me Battleship Forever, that is a dawn nice game.
[www.igf.com]
recomended 5/5 stars.
@Iblis: Not sure how you took my comment, but it was a compliment. A tolerant nature is a good thing, and something Star Trek fans would get a free 'get out of jail' card, if they lost it. There is no ST game that says "that's how it should be done". It has not been respected.
Star Wars... absolutely, there has been some crap. But look at the good things that have the Star Wars name on them. Not many, but there are a few.
I'm just saying that at a time when publishers are dropping millions on games (see: Force Unleashed, next year), Star Trek fans are looking forward to a game releasing on the PS2/Wii... probably for $50.
@STARSBarry: Seeing as the Star Trek: Armada games were from Activision and this game is from Bethesda, I doan't see that happening. Too bad this isn't more like the Starfleet Command games for PC, I really enjoyed those.
Meh....look like Empire at War.
I love Trek but games lack depth.
ugh! now they just look like lifeless toys. C'mon, bring back Armada!!!
I just wanted to add that Star Trek: A Final Unity was a pretty good adventure game for fans of the show.
Legacy was close to being good. If the developers keep in mind the various criticisms of the game, they may be able to fix it.
Let's hope! I've been waiting for a good Trek game since The Warp Factor (What? That's not a Trek game?)
@Gannoc:
YES! I loved that game.
This seems like a random middle-of-the-road strategy game with Star Trek drawn across it in crayon. You should see the other gameplay-trailer, the trekkie in me died a little. And he was already on life-support.
Bad Bethesda.
Set in TNG Era?!? More like alternate Universe! Build an Empire? Achieve Galactic Domination??? Pleeeeze, I wouldn't play this game even if you paid me, And I'm a die hard Star Trek Fan. Is it just me, or does this game have nothing to do with what Star Trek is really about... Really. Gene Roddenberry, rest his soul, would turn over in his own grave if he ever saw this crap.
