If there is a god, this will not be a PS3 exclusive, d00d.
Did that character really stick his staff where I think he did?
I love this already, THIS could be what sells PS3s. I really enjoyed the music used here in the trailer and yes, the announcer -is- sweet.
I find it especially cruel, that the game that will end up making me buy a PS3, is a game that absolutely does not need hardware as powerful as the PS3 to run. *shakes fist and sighs*.
The announcer for this sounds like Norio Wakamoto, who's famous for having an awesome voice. I suggest everyone check out [www.youtube.com]
@mike im pretty sure that announcer is norio wakamoto <3
I have only one thing to complain about the Nippon Ichi games. They are too damn large. How am I supposed to come up with a time to see all of them? It's not like I wanted to buy a second job... But this will be inevitable purchase, nothing can stop that.
I really do not want a PS3....but......I love these games. I get more excited for this than Metal Gear.
What to do......what to do.....
I also hope against all hope that this gets ported to something else - it's not like the graphics NEED the power of the PS3. Wii maybe? PS2 even??
To tell the truth, I have never played a Disgaea game before, although I was very close to once buying Disgaea, but ended up buying La Pucelle instead. I love S-RPGs though and this game looks absolutely fantastic. The amounts of damage they do in some of those attacks is astounding! Please port? *puppy eyes*
O_O It like FFT on crack. I never knew you could ever inflict sooo much damage in a game. Come on, Portstation 3 give this up to another system. I know Xbox and Wii can handle this.
Why isn't this on the Wii? Do they hate money?
With those graphics(the 3d part) they will be the laughing stock of the non-SRPG-playing PS3 fanbase.
OMG LOOK!11!!!1 ITS WITZBOLD IN A GAME! OMG HE IS THAT FAMOUS?
I know I am way off topic, but anyone know when NPD numbers come out today?
Now why do you want this ported to another system? You should be happy it's on the PlayStation 3. It's another good reason to pick one up.
Did that attack just do 200,000,000 points of damage? (2 oku) I'm sold!
That announcer deserves 9,999 raises in salary! Holy awesome.
@blackadvent: Haven't you heard? There is no god.
Wafers and choirboys aside, do we know when this game is due West-bound? Q2 2008, hopefully?
@Superstar90:
AND NOT JUST ONE, A WHOLE CLASSROOM FULL OF LITTLE WITZBOLDS
@Yin: laughing stock? This RPG game power level is like 9000!!!
@Yin: The "Do they hate money" thing is getting old. Nobody buys 3rd Party stuff for wii anyway. (a la Z&W and NMH I'm sorry to say)
On topic: This was the clincher for me on the PS3.
The Disgaea series is incredible, this should be no different.
I honestly like the fact that it doesn't push the system's limits graphically. That's what I'm dying for...an old school type of JRPG with 2D graphics but with a ton of content. That would be heavenly for me.
@Yin: Haven't heard that one in a while! The "Hate Money" line! Good job.
@Superstar90:
I must admit, I lol'ed.
In relation to the actual news, the trailer looks good, and like everyone else, I would love to see this ported to the Wii.
And I'm sorry to say Mike that unless you're good at impressions, you won't sound like him. I sure as hell don't when I try speaking Japanese D:
Yep it's games like this and LBP that are making me buy a PS3 this Christmas. I should be putting that money towards another college class next semester but this, this is more important.
too bad its on the one system i wont buy for years.
Yeah... that stuff is getting excessive to the point of a f'ed up Japanese gameshow. I love these games, but some of the stuff I saw in that trailer, I was like "What the hell... do I really want to do that?" lol. I'm sure it'll kick ass though for those that love these games.
Good thing nippon ichi <3s them some sony.
Yes i will buy this when it comes out in america, and i am thinking of importing it
@Superstar90: I can't believe Witzbold hasn't commented yet. I think he's just humble.
Witzbold, you make us all proud!
ahhh love the Region Free 3
great voice, great game, great trailer, great witzbolds
time to buy a ps3 then
Okay, question. Anyone out there who can tell me the name of the artist who did the in-game 2d images? (Please don't tell me it's Ryusuke Hamamoto)
already have a ps3 and I am waiting for it to come out.
@hana_fubuki:
you've got shit on your tongue :P
Oh man, i haven't touched a Nippon Ichi game since the first Disgaea (that game consumed me), but i can't resist how awesome this looks.
Attacks that revolve around stacking characters? That blew my mind! (or was that in Disgaea 2 and i'm just out of the loop)? :D
@blackadvent: Agreed. Why oh why must this be on the PS3?
I 2nd the Etna spit and blink game.
@Papriche:
and with that I don't mean the pixel sprites.. or whatever they are called
@Latonone: Huh?! 0_o
@Latonone: Huh?! O_o
Are those graphics cel-shaded or what. They look really smooth and cartoon-like.
Wow, team specials.
@Superstar90: They're sprites. You know, the things you use for 2D graphics?
So how does Disgaea compare to FFT? This game seems have a serious case of number inflation (level 9999, 40K damage...c'mon).
Looks fun and complex, but when does the complexity go overboard and start being burdensome?
I thought I'd mention Witzbold being in the game but apparently a lot of other Kotaku-ites beat me to it :) That being said, it wasn't until I recently picked up Disgaea for the PSP recently that I realized where Witzbold got his avatar ^_^ I think it's safe to say he's already pre-ordered this game or will get it at launch. Looks cool :) Hope it comes here to the US eventually. Now if only I had a PS3 hmmm
is there anywhere to buy disgaea 1 and 2 in london? can't find it anywhere ;_;
I love tactical rpgs and this looks insane!
My head exploded from all the goodness.... and i dont have a PS3 too. =(
@dabu: Dabu -- one of the best things about the game is that it can be as simple or complex as you want it to be. If it's like the first two games you can 'beat' it by only getting to level 70 or so, but to beat everything you could play for hundreds of hours and you'd need levels in the thousands.
This game is one of the reasons I bought a PS3 -- and again, do we have any clue at all on a U.S. realease date? I don't speak Japanese, and I don't think Bashcraft would answer my emails.
Already pre-ordered the import version. Thank god the PS3 lineup is beginning to look decent and I can finally remove a bit of the dust that it gathered so far.
I missed out on Disgaea 2? Damn, maybe I should get that while waiting for this to hit...
@ZeAvIs: Careful with the dust, you might end up on Fox News ! ;)
Is that Norio Whatshisface doing the voice? His voice always sounds weird. I dunno why, it just does.
Also, the graphics seem to be better than those upscaled x HD menu screenshots I've seen..
@hana_fubuki: He's saying you're kissing his ass. See. I get jokes.
I also thought of Witzbold when I saw that penguin character. I haven't had a PS since the original, and have never played a Disgaea game. I enjoy the tactics games though, and would buy this (if it was on 360 or DS). I'd get it for the PS3 if I could afford one. (In terms of time and money; marriage is rough for the gamer.)
Why can't more game trailers be like that one? I've never been more pumped for the Japanese release of a game.
Well this is another reason to rob a bank so I can afford a PS3, as long as they continue the tradition of solid strategic gameplay, pop-culture humour and sneaking Etna into the game I'll walk away happy.
Then come back five minutes later, re-incarnate my characters and do it all again.
@dabu: First of all Disgaea is funny. Played through the first one with friends and we laughed almost the entire time. And the numbers aren't different from previous ones, you could play those games to no end, leveling up to 9999 and reincarnating on forever. You could even level your weapons and other items, even single usage healing items, if you wanted. I don't think I ever reached level 100 regardless of playing it through multiple times with the same characters, so don't think of much of those high numbers.
Say good bye social life if you buy this game. The announcer is freaking awesome. Smart move from Sony to get this exclusive (now they have to keep it that way).
This game looks so ridiculous. :D
KAIZOKU!!!!??! lol :D
