My son's first experience with the Playstation 3 Sixaxis was interesting. He had never used motion control before and I just handed him the controller and told him to steer the car. The first 30 seconds or so he hated it and actually said he wasn't playing anymore. Then he watched me playing with it and said he wanted to try it again. That's what this video showed. He seemed to really enjoy himself, though I think he's still a fan of the thumbsticks as well.

Video is no longer available right now :( A shame as I wanted to see how he took to it. I assume it was a positive.
Your son has an uncanny resemblance to THIS VIDEO IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE. You might want to take him to a doctor.
That would cost money.
I really wanted to see that.
"This video is no longer available."
???
protip: don't link videos until youtube is through processing them
I guess it should've sayed "This video is NOT YET available"
im also going to make a comment about how the video is no longer available. boy, am i sharp or what?
come on now...get this working
Best. Video. Evar!
My kid totally mastered the SIXAXIS, too... yeah, in fact, he invented the SIXAXIS...... it's too bad the video isn't available... else you'd all see...
Wait, Youtube took down a video of a father and a son sharing their experience with the PS3, all because it had something to do with PS3?
Google partnership anyone?
Hey, if the current games are embargo'd, how about a video of how the backwards compatiblity works? If you really want to piss off some Xbox fanboys, go ahead and throw a PS2 version of Psychonauts in there and see if it plays. :)
Well that certainly looked awkward.
The controller also looked big enough to consume that poor child should he stop playing.
Looks like he'll be having a lot of fun with the Wii then :)
Only the Atari Jaguarar and Xbox duke eat small children.
Good to know the small can pick up the controller after just a bit of time.
Cute kid! How old is he? I have a two year old and can't wait to play video games with him! haha
Damn, this is a slap in the face !!!
Over there PS3 hasn't even come out yet, and now you have it infront of your couch already, with your son playing it ! Who probably couldn't care less if he got to try it at all lol. And here I sit, on my rich european ass, without a PS3 coming this month.
lol the pad looks so big in his little hands! I guess he prefers the analogue sticks because he is used to them alot more, i'm sure most people will feel that way about Sixaxis and Wii mote until they become acustomed to them.
You'd think YouTube could process a video in less than an hour. Oh well, it's up now.
New this fall! Pitch your controller and pitch your car! 360s for the win! (this is not an endorsment for the Xbox 360, really, this is about the child like joy of spinning around and around untill you fall over)
The kid prefers the 360.
What a lucky kid.
By the way, the non-answer thing? I still haven't given that up, and I'm 22.
to me it's funny and/or nostalgic to see someone controlling a game by moving the controller, since i (and i'm sure others) used to do that alot when younger...
p.s: cute kid.
Man, your kid looked awkward. Would make a good PS3 advertisement, though. Definitely better than the ones they've been putting out, as it actually looks fun there.
Also, not to derail the topic or anything, but in case any of you were bemoaning Florian's loss as I am, he's resurfaced on Wired's "Table of Malcontents" blog under the clever pseudonym "John Brownlee," dispensing his own brand of pompous, overwrought wisdom with the usual genius and subtlety. I wouldn't mention it, except that it was difficult at first to determine where he and his previously mentioned "Art & Culture" blog actually were. Eliza is around there someplace, too; I think she'll be writing for Game Life at some point.
Nice knowing you, Deathcoil.
Gotta give the lad credit for his concentration... he managed to tune out his father's bothersome rambling after only a few seconds. I'd be like, "DAAAAAD! SHUT UP, I'M TRYING TO PLAY! SAVE YOUR STUPID SURVEY FOR WHEN THIS RACE IS DONE AT LEAST!" And then my dad would grab one of those bottles from the wine rack and beat me with it to teach me the errors of my insolence.
I didn't have a very happy childhood.
Ya Deathcoil see ya later I guess.
haha, cool
Look, he's got a pony. I want a pony.
LeGuru: Hold your horses there. Florian and Elzia are no longer writing for Kotaku? When did I miss this memo?
Granted I was off the net most of last week, so it would have been pretty easy for me to miss it.
Er, Eliza even.
Shenanigans: Mr. Eckhardt announced their departure somewhat surreptitiously, in the comments section of his last post (I believe it was, "What are YOU playing this weekend?"), and I didn't find out about it until much later, reading about it in the comments of another post. Just in time, too, because I was starting to wonder who all these new fellows were and why I wasn't getting my daily Florian fix.
Hm, Kotaku may have eaten my post. Basically, Florian announced it in the comments section of his last post, and there was much disappointment and wailing and gnashing of teeth.
They should use the "I like it, a little" line in commercials. For any product, really.
I think the reason he said he likes the thumbsticks better, is of course he's played with it more often. But he looks like he's enjoying himself. (as evidenced by him not talking to you...) Looks like how the Sixaxis should be played. Not super-groundbreaking but not utter crap either. So in other words, it gets the job done.
What was he playing? Motorstorm?
Man, Crecente you sound like a porn guy! (the dude from MILF hunter or something)
The first time I heard your voice, I thought you were voicing over for a porn flick or something. I know from experience...and from experience, I mean I'm Don Gigantes, The 11-inch snaker.
I'm probably the only guy here who is happy for not having both Florian and Eliza here. I don't miss them, either.
What a lucky kid.
It looks more like a unicorn than a pony...
I'm really shocked no one has commented on the stuffed rabbit yet - you guys are slippin'!
I loved the one part where Tristan looked away from the camera (and the game) as if to say "Can I stop playing now?"
He looked like he was pretty into it- hence the no response. I figure it will be akward at first, the motion control-instead-of-thumbstick. But after a couple of hours it might become second nature again. Developers will probably include the option of just using the thumbsticks anyway, so I wonder how many will prefer the feel of the motion sensing.
I'm going with one manly man unicorn in that boy's lap. With some hetero straight sauce. Kids scare me.
Florian was the pseudonym, his real name is John Brownlee. Go figure huh?
Both he and Eliza were hired away by Wired.com, which is a wonderful step forward for both of them. Eliza is going to be doing stuff on GameLife I believe.
It is a Unicorn. I won it at a rennfen a year or so back by getting a few bulls eyes with one of those wonky bows they have there.
It looks like it sucks to me - he had no sense of feedback from the controller which was made obvious by the fact that he kept turning the controller wildly.
Your kid is so cute (in a non-creepy way)!
Reminds me of playing the SNES when I was little... but when you moved the controller all over the place it didn't really do anything back then; nonetheless, I'd still fling the sucker in the air whenever Mario jumped.
Where did you get that pony? Can I have one?
...can I be your son for a week or 2?
Looks like it'd be akward on those moments when he nearly crosses his arms over for some sharp turns. I mean, my moobs might get in the way and all y'know... Too bad there's not some controller where you can just use one hand for motion sensing.
Microsoft should grab the clip where your son says, "I like the 360s" with the PS3 controller in hand and use it for a commercial. Just have that and a screen with "PWNED!" pop up at the end and you've got a commercial infinitely better than those crying babies.
... Can I have some candy?
So how well did your son do in the game anyway?
There's going to be many a black eye while playing split screen with these things! Not to mention repetitive strain / sprains / short gaming sessions enduced by lethargy (the same issues as i have with the wii really).
Good to see the little one picking it up so quickley thoguh i guess, although i dont see this as a viable marketing route for a £500 console.
Wow, your kid has mastered the SIXAXIS, but he seriously needs to blink once in a while. Even in his plaintive looks to the side, pleading for some one to take it off him, they remain scarily open. Those must be some dry eyeballs. Maybe the unicorns tears at the slow demise of Sony can moisten them for him.
I love it, another hard-hitting interview by our Kotaku journalists!
Funniest part: Horrible hacking/sneezing noises at 00:14 and 00:16, causing son to look up in alarm.
"No answer." Heh. Kids are great. He's like, "I'm losing here, quit bugging me!"
"Daddddd i'm trying to play my PS3, jeeeeeez"
heheh, nice video, thanks a lot man.
It is like the PS3 video where the doll never blinks. Truth in advertising.
