Clip: Xbox 360 Elite Just Sitting There

I had an interesting conversation with Albert Penello yesterday about the Xbox 360 Elite and Microsoft's changing stance on HDMI. Here's Microsoft's Channel 10 talking him through the announcement and showing off the new console.

  • so that chick went from g4tv girl to microsoft talkshow host.

  • lol, Watch the controller at 3:06, new Microsoft feature, "motion."

  • @JimmyPageJun1or:

I mean 3:06 left in the video.

    @dh4645:

Yeah she has been working here in Redmond for a few months now.

  • this is making me pine for the old days where there was only 1 model of a system.

you wanted it, you bought it. I dont need buying my xbox to be like buying a car

  • At least he is being honest, almost no one is going to buy it. :P

  • @JimmyPageJun1or: LOL!!

UahhhH!!! I hope they let us old users like send in our 360s with $80 bucks in return for this one. :) That'd be awesome but I reallllllllly doubt it.

  • I recommend that eveyrone listen to Major Nelson's 30 minute podcast about the elite.

They discuss EVERY major issue and put out some very convncing arguments for their various decisions. It's also worth it to hear Nelson groan at the HDD price.

  • I think she could be less dressed and this review would have more impact for me. However, if memory serves me correct, isn't she a "cooter bumper?" But that works too I guess. ;-)

  • Free Hdmi Cable eh, not bad.

  • Is anyone going to actually buy this that already own a 360?

  • @Mr.Digg:

It's not really a big deal, you can easily find a HDTV that accepts 1080p through component or VGA, and you can sell your 20GB HDD for $70/$80 bucks on Ebay after you get the 120GB HDD for $180.

And it's never been done before. Sega didn't do it with their six versions of the Genesis, Nintendo didn't do it with their handhelds and the SNES2 or Panasonic Q, and Sony never did it with their PSOnes and PSTwos.

  • @JimmyPageJun1or:

    That made me chuckle.

She didn't ask about the black controllers being sold seperately :(

  • @Mr.Digg:
Well what MS can do is you pay 180 ahead of time, and they give you hard drive.
You can transfer and then send regular 360 model to MS.
Then they ship Elite with 80-100 dollars back in the Elite box.

  • Yeah now with 3 version of the 360, 2 of the PS3, the Wii sure seems like the simplest buy. But they are at least going to come out with new colors. Lets hope they don't include any major additions that would make my Wii obsolete.

  • Constant Elite posts make me sleepy

  • Looking in to the future.

Wii will release a version with a DVD drive at some point in Japan only.

360 will release a Blu-ray add on WHEN Blu-ray wins the format war.

I'm not saying anyone needs any of the above. Those are just facts.

  • 120GB for 180 bucks?

SO not worth it.... I guess THAT"S where they're raking in the cash, and to think, I though the 80 bucks that they got from the core and premium would go towards making this one cheaper... seems that it's cheaper but the drive rapes... :/

They should make it UPGRADEABLE. like the PS3... :/ guess not. :(

What's the bricked percentage going to be on these 'Elite's?'? I may pick one up if it's under 10%....

  • Hmmm I hope they clear up getting everything off my box and onto the elite by the end of April.

  • @Wolf_Dog:
Truth :), not to mention PS3 HD is user-upgradeable.
It's up the user whether it hinders him or if he fits it beneficial.

  • Personally I think this Xbox Elite business is a great idea.

I don't actually own a HDTV, so a HDMI port is irrelevant to me.

Haven't got a 360 either, so hopefully they'll reduce the prime of the premium to make it more affordable for people like me.

  • @yidali:

    It's HDD. Not HD.

  • I guess the optimum way to do this is to:

    - buy the Elite
    - transfer your 20GB content over
    - then sell your Premium

There are still a few things I don't fully understand. He said there will be some transfering issues. I'm also guessing we will have to buy the transfer cable too.

  • @Wolf_Dog: I think you are a bit confused on the definition of "facts."

  • "people get annoyed when they have to actually buy a cable for 50 dollars and".... OMG! YOU ACTUALLY FORCE PEOPLE TO BUY A NEW CONSOLE!!!
(all tho PS3 should come with it, this isn't even comparable in screw ups.)

Anyway as she said, "niiiicee....." "it is the el..ite" In other words, what a piece of garbage, :P

"your content is stored to your box so you cant switch over your..."

So.. the new hardware is so useless it wasn't needed, Im sorry but I just dont get this whole idea, his baby and he worked a lot on it? dooing what? painting white consoles black? or having another manufacturer making bigger harddrives?

I wish I could read Peter Moore's mind just for 1 day, just to see if he got all his braincells intact.

  • Really like how they went ahead and included ALL the possible AV cables... HDMI, component and composite.

That's an idea that's long been overdue.

  • So I was thinking about picking one of these up this summer but one question linger in my mind. It might very well be an obvious one but, does the Elite come with standard or AV hookups? Or is it all in HDMI?

  • Whoohoo!! Im so glad the new Xbox360 is out, 480$ US for the Elite system, plus 200$ US for the HDDVD drive, plus 100$ US for the wireless network adapter. In total 780$ and you add the tax. Thats sooo coool.
What do you mean the PS3 is 600$ ?? And you say it can play blue ray disc and the PS3 is more powerful?

  • I hope the person responsible for pricing the new hd at $180 gets his spine broken by a run away aids truck full of stolen cancer wigs.

  • Nice tits Tina!

  • Gamestop might be willing to trade up for like 150 and a premium console.

  • danzuke says:

"this is making me pine for the old days where there was only 1 model of a system."

    @Karttikeya says:

"And it's never been done before. Sega didn't do it with their six versions of the Genesis, Nintendo didn't do it with their handhelds and the SNES2 or Panasonic Q, and Sony never did it with their PSOnes and PSTwos"

Comparing the different versions offered for the 360 and ps3 doesnt not compare to the different versions offerd for the genesis snes etc. the 360 and ps3 versions have very different features added between the different models, where as the genesis, snes, nes, and many gameboy models were just different sizes/cases not really any features were added. (i have all the versions so i know) in the case of the ps2 the new version added popular add ons that many people had purchased (i.e. LAN) As for the Panasonic Q that was something most people didn't even know about and was way out of the league of the regular gamecube. (the Q was pretty awesome with its mirror front ;)

Basically this generation is the first to offer choices at LAUNCH, unlike previous game systems that had relaunches of basically the same system with minor changes in LOOKS.

  • @Veltis:

Old/10. Try to contribute something new.

Anyways. I've been considering getting a 360 for some time now, as my Wii is lacking in reasons to be turned on after I finished Zelda. I'll probably be picking this up.

  • @Scuba Steve: I doubt it, heck looking at ebay it seems many people are getting rid of the 360 as we speak, by tomorrow I bet we got panic, when it hits mainstream news.

  • Its something new, the 360 is now officaly more expensive endless ^^

  • @Veltis: Yet when you add tonight's announcement that Netflix and Microsoft have teamed up to turn the 360 into a multimedia hub (along with the Spring update, and the backend update that brought XBL down all yesterday) the HD-DVD addon will be moot, rendering your point null.

  • I can't believe people complaining about this. What a bunch of brats. What makes you think MS should price price thier system upgrades to cater to your wallet. If it's not worth the purchase for you don't buy it. I don't think anyone would bitch about Honda's top of the line car being out of thier price range weather they think it's worth the price or not, you'd just say, "well those parts and services aren't worth it to me" and you'ld move on.

  • @axiomatic:

Its got to be the other chickfrom G4TV

  • "Whoohoo!! Im so glad the new Xbox360 is out, 480$ US for the Elite system, plus 200$ US for the HDDVD drive, plus 100$ US for the wireless network adapter. In total 780$ and you add the tax. Thats sooo coool.

That's true. But wait, I don't want HDDVD and my LAN is all CAT5 cable (I trust wifi about as far as I can throw it). But then buying a PS3 will save you more money, seeing how there are only 2 games worth getting for the bloody thing!

And before you start having a spac-attack and calling me an "xbot" (BTW do you know how f**king retarded you sound every time one of you say that?) fanboy. I'm a PC gamer.

  • some people here need to grow up. Honestly. Have you people looked at the mobile phone market lately? Now there a market that changes there line up every year.

  • @Veltis: It's true, your arguement only makes sense if those features are what I'm really looking for in the first place.

If I really just wanted to watch Blu-Ray movies and play a video game here and there, ya, the value you get with the PS3 is a good deal for those uses, there's no point in argueing that.

If my primary goal isn't to watch movies but play games, it appears to me that the value is with the 360 where you have the alternate situation. I can play games on a premium system that has more than enough space for game saves and try out an HD movie here in there for download.

As far as wireless goes, at this point as I Cat 5 or 6 to be far more reliable so if I really want stable online gameing or downloads, why pay for what I don't want or need?

  • I'm just kinda upset that this new iteration comes out over 16 months after the original 360 came out. I didn't buy mie until the system was maybe 8 months old, and i still got ripped, because UNLIKE buying a car, not too many people were aware a new iteration of the console would be coming out the next year. So what bugs me the most is that i wont get any kind of upgrade offer. i may actually be forced to make a purchase from gamestop for the first time in my life, if the rumours of an upgrade offer, for like 150 bucks or whhatever, is true. Because not only do i think the black 360 is shweet looking, and i also want the 120 gb drive. The HDMI isnt too big a deal, as i have never had a HDTV in my life, though that may change next year *fingers crossed*

  • Yeah, I hate to pay for shit I don't use, and the 360 gives me none of that. So I'm happy ^^

  • The big question is; Does it play DVD's?

  • So the $180.00 120gb hdd will actually be about 113gb like the 20gb drive that was actually 13gb? Fuck that.

  • Wow, I have a 360 now and I feel totally ripped. I mean, it's like they're saying "this is better than what we came out with a year ago, wanna buy it?" Whatever happened to getting right the first time?
If you buy this, as a current 360 owner you end up paying a crap load of money just because MS knew they could come out with a black one in a year.
I thought that the consumer always wins when companies compeate. Guess not.
They don't even offer price drops or built-in HD-DVD, I think they even mentioned getting a bluray player when bluray wins the war. How hard would it have been for them to at least put in wireless?

  • @Spilt_Milk:

Umm, it is a special order 2.5" SATA HDD for MS made by Seagate that must pass specific standards of operation; not some loss leader 3.5 EIDE drive from Fry's that may or may not fail within a year of purchase.

Not to mention the prepping of the HDD to add the security features by MS to appease the media industry for the video downloads, and the custom enclosure to connect it to the 360; which keeps my entertainment center nice and tidy.

Now $99 for 20 gigs is outrageous, $180 for 120 gigs is a premium, but not unreasonable.

Don't get me wrong I think I should be able to use USB Flash drives and External HDDs for saves and backups, but understand the use of their proprietary HDD for DL content. It is media industry that needs to stop punishing it's legitimate customers.

  • I'll take some wine with my 360.

  • That is funny. At 3:06 in the video the 360 control has motion. (it falls down).
