Shokotan Looks For Akiba's King Nerd

That's admitted cat-head-swallower-turned-mainstream-idol Shoko Nakagawa finding bigger nerds than her! She encounters some dude playing Taiko no Tatsujin blindfolded, nerd group dancers and another dude (with no teeth) cosplaying as anime character Haruhi Suzumiya. She then dresses up as a life-sized Evangelion figurine. None of the passer-byers think that, you know, a real human being would actually do that. A chubby guy finally recognizes her. Good for him! He's even dressed as his own self-created character called A-Hero (Akihabara Hero) and protects the Akiba "holy land" by walking around from store-to-store with other nerds. He's even got his own slogan and poses. Uh-huh yep yep.

    Shes just too cute. D:

  • japan.. ;_;

  • i was obviously born in the wrong country because that all seemed quite natural to me

  • I love Japan; I was in Akihabara at the end of October and we ran into a film crew taping a woman and a dude in one of the capsule stores...I wonder if it was these people and they just didn't use the footage..they drew quite a crowd...

  • @Witzbold: i don't care how cute she is... she tried to eat her cat ><

  • That pose was well done! I like it when people commit.

  • Hahahaha hilarious.
    "A-hero" lol!
And there was a really hot chick in a kimono. HOT!

  • Image of Witzbold Witzbold at 07:21 AM on 11/13/07 *

@tabrith: If you think the cat eating was bad, try and find the picture of her blowing into one a cats anus. Or at least thats what it looks like shes doing.

  • Those rent-a-crowd dancing guys are awesome, I wish I could play drum-arcade games blindfolded in Akiba :) Yes, she's achingly cute.

  • O Japan...
Whatever happened to the land of dignity and manliness that it once was? I wonder if this is the fruit of losing the war.

  • Well that sucks, every video of Shoko that Kotaku has previously posted is no longer available. Way to to go, youtube.

  • @Witzbold:
Ahh I love that picture...that and the one where she copies the 'om nom nom - noooo it are my birthday' cat.

Jesus, if I met her in real life, (which isn't that impossible) I think I'd just die of happiness.

  • @Witzbold: Σ(゚Д゚ ).. ok i will have to look that up tonight... i don't think i should search for "cat anus" during work...

  • When did Shoko-tan get all "O-nei-kei" on us? While she's still no Ebi-chan,there has definitely been a signifigant improvment.

But hey, nothing really that surprising in this video. Although the Taiko no Tatsujin guy is famous, everything else in that video is really what you come to expect in Akiba.

I'd love to sit Shoko-tan down for an afternoon and just pick her brain. I'm still on the fence about her....part of me thinks this has all been a big act to appeal to otaku.

I remember when I first saw her on TV. When asked who her first love was, she said something like "I had my first crush in 7th grade, and his name was Sephiroth." I immediately changed the channel....no way someone ACTUALLY just said that.

But Otaka-gei.....man. That shit is lame. But my question is, what differentiates Otaka-Gei from Parapara? I know that Otaka-Gei people jump a whole lot....and the music is obviously different...but is that it?

  • @Witzbold:

Wow, she must really want toxoplasmosis bad....

  • The real king nerds of Akiba are the hikikomori, the shut-ins that live in their parent's house without ever leaving, who are free to enjoy the splendor of their otaku-dom without those awkward social moments like walking down the street or buying something from a store. There was a scare a few years back after a study revealed that the number of these shut-ins was increasing, but I guess it has turned recently, probably due to all this "otaku activism" crap (along with shows like Densha Otoko). I wish I was back in Tokyo right now because I can't find a store to buy a single damn 50 ohm resistor in this inaka city, and shipping itself would cost about 8000% more than the resistor...you people do know that there are other things in Akiba that aren't related directly to videogames, anime and porn, right? Right?

    Guys?

  • @tabrith:
This was posted on her blog earlier today....

@denki: Theres only 2 reasons for me to go to Akiba.

    1: My Import (US) games.
    2: Guns

Asides from that I hate having to travel all the way out there. When I can just go to Shinjuku to buy the games and electronics I need. Unless its actual electronics related parts.

  • @Kiriphii: LOL thanks for the link! She looks so happy performing that feline rectal exam.

Best part of the clip is definitely when a-hero recognizes Shokotan.

  • Image of Witzbold Witzbold at 07:51 AM on 11/13/07 *

    @Kiriphii: YER DOIN IT WRONG!

  • [yaplog.jp]

    has her blog.

therein may be found various examples of animal abuse and insanity.

  • When I started watching I thougt that A-Hero would end up being the Otaking, but he seems to be a mostly normal guy trapped in the '80s. The Taiko drum guy was just impressive (even though it's all muscle memory). What freaked me out the most was the damn cross-player. I should have known too, cross-play always freaks me out. I know that's half the point and I'm encouraging them but I can't help it. There's something disturbing about someone having the conviction to not only dress up as a fictional character but to do it as a member of the opposite gender. They just seem to put more into it than some dude dressing up as a chick for Halloween. Myabe I'm just scarred from seeing too many SailorMen. Or maybe it was hearing this creepy dude talk about a Love Hina cross-play. Either way that Haruhi cross-player is the biggest wierdo in the video, except maybe for Shokotan.

  • @Witzbold:
Nothing that woman does is wrong, you should know that!

I really should stop commenting after this, but by god I love that woman :P Glad I got to see that programme above as I missed it on TV. I stopped watching TV a while back so I don't have to pay the bad NHK man.. (´;ω;`)

  • It's all fun and games until the cat bites her tonsils... or, you know, takes a dump when she's not expecting it.

A-Hero is now my favorite super hero of all time.

  • Image of Witzbold Witzbold at 07:56 AM on 11/13/07 *

@Kiriphii: I just told the NHK man to piss off and he hasnt been back since.

  • @Witzbold:
He swindled me into paying a couple of thousand yen, but a friend of mine got it back for me thankfully. You should hit me up sometime on MSN if you like :3

  • ok......

  • Who doesn't love shokotan, seriously? :D

  • I see her name and think of nothing but drills that pierce through the heavens. Nothing else.

  • That video is pretty old now, they've moved the Taiko no Tatsujin machine to the second floor. I guess that the Manseibashi Police department weren't too impressed with the insanely huge crowds that gathered around that guy all the time.

I did speak to that guy once before. He's kinda weird, and his trousers are pulled up past his stomach... yeah.

  • U/i am happy to see there are soo fun and interesting people on this world. world of worlds, as any guy or gal can have a interesting interior. U/is the exterior that is often very dull and boring. U/maybe because most people live and die by some really dull standars.

    U/=> uppercase

this remmind me a friend of mine, that teached^H^Hinfected me to write in lowercase. U/maria luisa escudero, are you there?

  • OH GOD SHOKO IS HOT

man that chick is wierd. thats why shes so awesome

  • That was interesting. The guy dressed up as Haruhi was like... <_< Yeah.

But yeah damn, Shoko is pretty.

  • @leedsmanc: Those guys should be at every arcade. Playing Initial d or Tekken with some backup dancers behind you...awesome

  • Japan is superior.

  • Rats, I was really hoping she was cosplaying an Evangelion. Why I didn't think she'd be going as a girl instead of a gigantic robot... I don't know.

  • @spinal77: I was going to mention our little run-in with the random film crew in that store, the name of which escapes me, but I remember it was below the Cure Maid cafe. I, too, wonder if that was her.

And if it was, I totally missed out on meeting a really, really cute famous Japanese chick. Damn!

  • Japan is half and half, half cool and interesting, half emotionally scaring and mentally disturbing.

  • OLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLDDDDD'D. Saw this like a year ago. Still funny nonetheless. :D Shoko dressing up as Rei= win.

  • I still demand action of her and the DS cat. MAKE MY DREAMS COME TRUE KOTAKU! ;~;

  • I wanna be Shokotan when I grow up ^_^. She blurs the line between geek and fashion queen. I used to think it was never possible to be both. "Beautiful Dream" is a great song, too.

Awesome picture of her at the Diamond & Pearl launch in NYC. I wish I was there so bad...but all I could say to her is "Shokotan!!!!".

  • Very cute, almost disgustingly so. I wuv shoko-tan

  • amusing video... I'm really accepting of otaku, etc, but even I find it sad that there are Wotas doing Otagei for a blind-folded dude playing Taiko no Tatsujin. At LEAST do it for cute girls like Shokotan. Good otaku should protest any crossplayer attempting to do live shows, instead of cheering them on with otagei. Sigh, if you're a dude playing Haruhi, at LEAST be one of those shota types so you can PASS for a girl...

Shokotan's Rei is really sweet. I like her even more now.

  • Why the hell were those guys dancing behind the blindfolded guy playing Taiko? And were those same guys dancing in front of that No Tooth Haruhi-man? I don't get Japan. :(

  • What happens to the shut-ins when their parents die? Do they just starve to death in their rooms, or do the cops drag them off to a mental hospital?
