Happy Halloween Ashcraft!
Yeah Happy Halloween guys.
This game had never caught my eye. But this trailer is actually pretty good.
I'm still on the fence about this game, but to say the least, this was much much much better than the jetski video. From some of the other videos I've seen, it looks like a "next-gen" Tomb Raider/Prince of Persia/Indiana Jones mixture, which may not appeal to everyone, but it certainly does to me.
The puzzles look nice, and though the story seems of typical treasure hunt fashion, it could be solid enough. The ambient sound sounds pretty decent, too. It's just the combat that has me cautious. To be fair, the combat isn't really that great in Tomb Raider and I still like it, so we'll see.
@Sailorcancer:
Happy Halloween to you!!
Music at the beginning reminds me of Apocalypse Now and again at the end.
Now that was a trailer. Trailer of the year?
The new areas they showed for like a couple of seconds looked sweet too. Hope this turns out great.
Happy Halloween!
Happy Halloween everyone!
On a totally unrelated note.
@ashcraft: Is Yotsuba! really as popular in Japan as I've been lead to believe?
Hey Ashcraft,
that music is by "Massive Attack".
It's from theiralbum "Mezzanine", which also has Teardrop and a few other famous tracks by them. It's my favourite massive attack album actually.
I don't think they ever got that big in the states but they were MASSIVE (hur hur) in the UK.
P.S Tricky used to be in massive attack too btw
Not really interested in this game but the trailer was quite well done :)
man that game is looking better by the day. may have to pick up a ps3 finally
Hey bash...any chance you could update us on how the demand for Mario Galaxy looks in Japan?
Uncharted looks like the bastard child of Tomb Raider and Far Cry.
If it actually works, it's gonna be great. I love games with a good sense of "adventure" in them.
If it doesn't, well, then I guess it doesn't, and it just adds to the "games which don't justify getting a PS3 for" catalouge.
Wow that trailer kicked ass! Between this and Ratchet and Clank I may be spending more time on my PS3 than my 360 for the first time since Warhawk dropped. Well maybe after I finish all of the achievements for the Orange Box that is...
@krisb: Good catch! I knew it sounded familiar. After checking a little more, the track is called "dissolved girl," in case anyone is wondering. great album. personal favorite is "inertia creeps."
I really really hope they fix the water splashes, explosions and more importantly Vsync. It wouldn't stop my interest in the game, but when everything else is so polished the bad effects look completely out of place.
The varying colour schemes are very impressive though, really sets the mood
@Accordion: The explosions look great, big improvement from what they used to look like back in the Jetski video that people complained about. Theres a couple vids showing off how the lighting effects are with the explosions, some really amazing stuff.
Nice tunes! I wonder if it went gold in Eldorado?
Wow I really want this. The demo stations in game stores better have this as an option. PC port plz? haha
Happy halloween everyone! Finally back to Kotaku after spending 5 hours dressed like Jack Sparrow, handing out candy to japanese kids. hehe actually fun. Just wanted to share the joy of this wonderful trailer, it really got me exited (read MORE exited). I hope that i can get my hands on this game very soon ^-^. Good night everyone and have a nice dream.
I wonder why they didn't show that you have to actually stop the jetski to fire during intense firefights? :P
I guess I know my next PS3 purchase. I was only interested in Burnout Paradise, but that trailer got me excited for Uncharted. I love the animation, and I hope the gunplay is good.
@Spilt_Milk: You don't have to sop, thats the point. You can play the sequence without stopping and just dodging, but the idiot playing the jetski video demo kept circling and shooting every thing he saw.
Am I the only one that would love to see a movie of this, but not necessarily play a game?
I will be picking up this for sure, man I am going to be poor soon, with this game, Assassin Creed and on imported PS3 controller :(
sigh the love of video games...
Count me as another person who wasn't so interested in this game until I saw the trailer. It looks pretty sweet, although there is definitely some uncanny valley going on. I'm interested to see if something like Mass Effect can finally fix this problem while still using realistic human models.
@krisb, monkeysaresilly: Mmmmm... Massive Attack.

And yes, that was a much better promo piece for, and hopefully a better representation of, the game. That got me excited again after that rather weak jet ski vid (and not just because the player sucked). The Massive Attack definitely helped the mood too.
The set pieces for exploration look great. I hope the combat isn't frustrating.
Hopefully we can start calling this a next generation "Pitfall" and get back to our roots.
Man this just looks damned exciting!
y o y do so many great games have to be comming out so soon. D:
very cool. i was pretty sure i was getting this game, now it's a day one purchase.
This is the 1st PS3 game trailer that make me appreciate my PS3 purchase.
Wow...
I need that now.
@Heliophage: Um, Tomb Raider was created as Indiana Jones with boobs.
Hoe. Lee. Shit.
This game looks awesome.
I'm still not sold because of that HORRIBLE jetski video. I'm rooting for DF, though, that trailer hints at a really cool story.
This is every bit what a trailer should be.
No wonder Hollywood's getting all sweaty over the video game industry.
This is reason #1.
Wow. Now I'll consider purchasing the game. That jet ski clip kind of turned me off, but now I'm back on.
hey a reason to buy a PS3 finally!!! now all i need now is the money :(
Man this reminds me that there is still alot of great looking titles left for this year....Uncharted, Assasins Creed and Mass Effect.
Looks pretty good, although I'm probably not going to get it - at least initially. COD4 and Mass Effect will keep me plenty busy, and I still haven't picked up Ratchet & Clank (which interests me more than Uncharted). If Uncharted gets reviewed well (which is likely) I'll probably check it out sometime next year.
so when is this coming to the 360? i give it a few months - then it will played on a proper system that can handle it...
Looks incredible. This and Ratchet alone make the PS3 a worthy purchase. Although Resistance, Warhawk and Ninja Gaiden are also great first year titles.
2008 looks incredible for gamers that own a PS3 and 360. A bit more on PS3 for me, but the 360 is still going to have some good stuff next year.
S
i don't understand why people are complaining about the old jet ski video. Could it be the reason they need to stop is because those barrels are like mines and they need to clear the river so they can go around not worrying about getting blown to pieces...just my thought because I'll be doing the same shit.
@sascha23: Tell me about it. PS3 is coming out with some great games. I still haven't finished Heavenly Sword or Ratchet & Clank yet because I keep playing Warhawk and I can't stop. I'm buying this game but it's probably going to fall victim to my Warhawk addiction.
I finished Halo 3 and try to play online but the intensity just doesn't compete with Warhawk and I love me some online Halo but I got bored with it.
time to pull out the emergencies only credit card.
Pre-rendered scenes? Check.
Camera angles and motion that inhibit actual gameplay? Check.
Yes, this is a great trailer indeed. o_O
Where is Lara?
ROFL otis, that was so deliciously absurd.
Everything about that statement. EVERYTHING.
That....was a FANTASTIC trailer. Seriously, this is probably the best PS3 trailer out there. If this game fulfills its promise, it will sell some PS3s....possibly even to me. Hopefully it's not ridiculously short....that would be serious buzzkill.
I know this game isn't out yet, but I think it's safe to say that Naughty Dog have hit the spot again. Naughty Dog and Insomniac always pull through.
@WizarDru: "Hopefully it's not ridiculously short....that would be serious buzzkill."
it's reportedly 12-15hrs, but packed with additional extras and unlockable content. it's not as limited as HS if that's what you're getting at.
Cool video but it also made me realize how much I hate ragdoll. The oddly splayed bodies at the end make me think we need a better representation of a damage person than a wet noodle in these next gen games. O well, still looks good.
Amazing trailer... pity I can't afford more than one console this gen...
so are the PS3 doesn't have any good games comments finally gonna stop?...i think warhawk, heavenly sword, ratchet and clack, uncharted, resistance, ninja gaiden...in the first year are decent.
Holy crap! That was awesome!
Best trailer I've seen in a while. It was extemely well put together.
Wait... crap um... That PS3 sure collects dust and is only good for driving cars and curing disease...
Funny right?
or has this trailer perhaps shown how stale those jokes are becoming.
@quaylieBIRD: i agree
this trailer is the best i ve seen in a while, a really great job ! T_T i want a ps3
