Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Intro

Ah, where would we be without user uploaded movies. GameTrailers user Fly Guy has posted the opening cinematic for Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII the upcoming pre-quel to Final Fantasy VII. The footage looks pretty nice and I have to say the guys are not quite as girly as they usually seem. This new game utilizes the same urban grittiness that originally set Final Fantasy VII apart from other entries in the series. The game is set to release on Japanese PSPs September 3rd with the U.S. version expected sometime next year.

  • September 13th is the date.

  • Sure does look pretty, but I'm sure it would be a lot prettier if it didn't have that annoying watermark in the video.

But then again the opening movie is no indicator of how the game will actually play.

But then again it's a FF game so it's bound sell and Squeenix will make more money.

  • This is a spin-off I might enjoy.

That dismount there at the end looked awful similar to the FFVII tech demo. Coincidence? Hmmm.....

  • As I write this, I'm currently in the last area of FF7, going after sephiroth in my first FF7 game.
It is a game I should have played a long time ago, but I'm glad I just did.

Pre-ordered Crisis Core the other day and it's looking like a solid choice! =D

  • @Sparx88: Well hes even in the same area as cloud in the first game. So with cloud more or less taking over Zack's identity at first. It kinda makes sense. Plus he wasn't swinging his sword. Not as cool :-p

  • @QC8472:

Final Fantasy VII is probably my favorite game by far. I also preordered Crisis Core, but that along with the limited edition FFVII PSP Slim.

    @Rabidsquirrel:

Except Cloud only took over parts he was there to see. Unless Cloud was one of the soldiers trying to kill him I dont think thats the case

  • @Allenby: I almost bought the PSP slim too, but then again 425$ for it? I just.. couldn't justify it to myself... I'll buy a normal one later, even just for the PSP games to TV option :)

Yeesh, I hope these FMV animators make as much money as Pixars', considering their talent is oh-so wasted on in-game FMVs that won't get nearly the same audience as if they'd work in Hollyword or at least on TV.

  • DaveKap; that statement just shows you don't appreciate and understand the subtlety of Pixars animation.

the Final Fantasy stuff looks alright, but animated well? If you consider moving around and doing stuff animation; sure. But I'm talking emotion, character, and life.... these guys don't come close to what Pixar does.

  • Damn those soldiers were bad shots.

  • I'm so excited about this game, I might actually play it with a translation guide. Next year is just WAY too far away.

  • Why is the other guy using the Buster Sword?

Well anyway, great animation! And yeah, the characters look a little bit more buffed now.

  • @Allenby: Where did you order the FF7 Special Edition?!?!? With the fanaticism over FF7 in Japan I was sure all 77,777 were gone the day it was announced.

  • @topaz420: play-asia still has them :P

  • @QC8472: Thank You! $400? Darth Vader it is!

  • Yeah Play-Asia has them. And they used to be $299.

  • @Allenby: Would have taken one at 299... :(

  • @QC8472:

Yeah me too D: But I waited too long and ended up paying $100 more.

  • congrats square, u have just made every ff7 fanboy/girl pee and crap in their pants. both an exciting intro and a ode to ff7's intro.

  • Man, it's stuff like this that makes me want a remake of FFVII even more. The world of FFVII could be done so much more justice with good graphics. They've already remade most of Midgar, why not do the rest of the game? -.- It gives me hope that they may actually announce a remake though. What better game to close the FFVII compilation set than the remake of the original? I don't understand why they didn't start with a remake though. They limited their audiences with these games more by not releasing a remake first, because a remake would've reigniting many fans desire for FFVII, and brought in new fans as well.

In any case, remake FFVII please :\

  • @Sparx88: Maybe hes watched him a couple times. Who knows maybe Zack is a 1 trick pony.

  • tgs and year of ff7 seems like a good enough reason for people to keep up their hopes. just remember square specifically said that the year of ff7 ended after december is over.

  • FF7 was a classic masterpeice why would you want a remake? Have you seen the recent FFs? We'd get Cloud as some 80s pop singer and Sephiroth as a stripper.

Leave it alone and let the classic be.

  • Uggh, I hope Square-Enix gets off their high of milking the FF7 universe soon, it wasn't really all that great and deserving of all this attention.

  • @Spidermonkey: You're right. As much as I love Final Fantasy VII, this opening movie was lame.

  • @vagrantscholar:

Before the fanboy flaming start, I should clarify my comment.

Although I do respect the fact Final Fantasy 7 was a great game (although I feel it isn't the best in the series), the amount of projects on it over the years is, well, how do I put it in words.... mind boggling. I can understand the movie and a few spin offs, and I can understand fleshing out the story plot some more, but damn it is like they are trying to write an almanac of every single event in its universe.

Things has gotten to the point where I consider Final Fantasy 7 its own series, which in itself is hard to believe. Square-Enix has so many IPs to work with, yet they continue to milk not just FF7 but FF and DQ, looking at their TGS list and you see nothing but DQ this and FF that. I've heard a few people refer to Square-Enix as the "EA of Japan", and I have to agree with the statement partly.

  • FF7 remake? Sure..I guess. But how about an FF6? Anyone? Up high! Woo!... ...

  • it looks good, i can't wait to get my psp slim&lite bundle so i can play this game! less than a week now **dances**

  • @Mesren_Makai: Don't you worry your furry little head, I'll bet my PS3 that a remakes of FFVI for the Wii and FFVII for PS3 are on their way

  • yeah. I see a few guys here also preorder the FF7 bundle. September 13! cant wait!

  • @Unastheslayer-PSN: Heh, why do you say the Wii, out of curiosity? Nonetheless, that would be great. I'd be very satisfied and get it. Then the old questions posted on small-time forums like "Which is better, Kefka or Sephiroth OMG?!" threads will resurface. :P

  • @Unastheslayer-PSN: Heh, out of curiosity, why do you say the Wii? I would actually love for it to be on the Nintendo console, myself, just for...well...the sake of nostalgia (It being a SNES game and all) Then, before you know it, the old question of "Kefka or Sephiroth, who is better?" will arise in small time (and big-time) forums around. But of course, we all know Kefka is a much better villain then ol' long-hair momma's boy :P

  • Crap...double post. My bad. Computer screwed up. Pick one and disregard the other I guess.

  • Kuja is the better villain.

I wasn't too taken by this video. Rather than all these spinoffs I'da rather had a remake which just expanded on the FFVII universe.

My money for the remake is that it'll be what marks the 20th anniversary though. They did talk about that, and it seems like it'd be a fitting way to close the circle.

  • why are bullets so weak nowadays? like really 300m/s in most handguns today but were talking about automatic rifles from the future but still 300 m/s and the guy just runs through em and deflects like 2 with his sword....seriously WTF? and im totally disregarding the whole flying seen where he goes even faster than the train...physics says as soon as he left contact with the train hed lose speed. then theres the running and slashing on the train.
oh yea its just a game, but seriously it makes me angry how lame, uncool and ridiculous it is.

  • First of all Last Dread, they're machine guns so they'll obviously not be very accurate in the first place. Second they're on a moving object so again their aim wouldn't be steady. Thirdly, since they are on a fast moving train the bullets wouldn't be going ANYWHERE near their intended direction. Considering the wind factor would completely screw it over.

On to Zack, if you've seen Advent Children, where Cloud was basically at SOLDIER quality you would know that it is all that far from the "truth" as to it, though it is still unrealistic.

SPARX88 if you went back to the basement, in Disc 3 I believe, there is a flashback. Zack gets out of the mako chambers and takes Cloud with him. They get a ride in a truck and in order to make sure Cloud doesn't die, he tries to get Cloud occupied by telling him soldiers of him in SOLDIER. Obviously Cloud took on some, or most, of Zack's mannerisms and that's why he had a similar fashion of getting off the train.

  • @Mesren_Makai: I reckon FFVI will be remade for the Wii because it was originally made for the SNES anyway and the Wii is selling well. There's money to be made there, so why not put it on the Wii?

  • Those Shinra troops must have studied at the Imperial Stormtrooper Academy of Marksmanship. They can't even hit a target that stayed still for 1.5 seconds. And I guess they transplanted the bizarro-land physics from Advent Children into this game. I don't know, there's a point where my suspension of disbelief for games breaks, and I'm pretty sure sword-wielding-in-a-futuristic-world, double-jumping, faster-than-a-train, bullet-deflecting protagonists go WAY past that point. Add in the military personnel that can't seem to hit a non-moving/non-shifting target so close to them, that it's a wonder they've been fielded for active duty, and you've got a thoroughly unbelievable intro.

I realize that some people like this stuff, and more power to them. As for me though, I like at least some semblance of realism, or at least, the appearance of realism. This video just throws it out the window.

  • @Ape.of.Gods:

You act like if they were to remake it they'd change the entire game. I'm talking a mere graphical update, with dialogue changes perhaps that tie its entire storyline together better, what with all the spinoffs. Trying to go back and replay the game now is painful. It had extremely primitive 3D graphics. The world of FFVII, especially Midgar, is something that would benefit greatly from the graphical updates of today. The more modern, industrial setting and story would also suit a lot more gamers of today, and the game would gather tons of new fans, who would then go out and buy the spinoffs.

So it would even make sense for Squenix's money-milking plan for FFVII.

Oh and, if they remixed the soundtrack, I'd be in love.

  • @Unastheslayer-PSN: You've obviously never seen FFVII: Advent Children. And for all of you saying "ZOMG DONT REMAKES FFVII!!!!1!!", have you even thought about giving a new generation of gamers playing what Is widely considered one of the best RPGs all time? I am actually one of those. I would dearly love to play FFVII, but alas, you can really only get new copies for at least $100.

  • Well Yeah, MIT, we'd all want a graphical update, but come on, I trust Squeenix about as much as I'd the devil.

Quite honestly I loved the graphics in the original, but going back now, their are pretty noisey, a resolution upgrade would filter that out honestly and yes a full blown graphic update and game tweak would be grand, but again, change one thing opens the flood gates for all kinds of things.

I'm sure you saw the movie, it was about as dull, lifeless, boring, and typical animetard as it got.

  • @Timmay!:

And the new generation of gamers can play the Playstation version. Using that kind of logic, Nintendo should should had remade the original Super Mario Bros several times now over the last 20 years.

Final Fantasy 7 doesn't need a remake, stop asking for it, and instead ask for something original from Square-Enix, we don't need to reconfirm that all they should do is milk the same fucking franchise over and over.

  • @Huxleyhobbes: You're probably right about a remake for the 20th anniversary. So another 10 years of speculation...wonderful.

Personally, I'd love to see a 2D remake of FFVII with gorgeous, high-quality animations in the same vein as FFVI, but the odds of that ever happening...well, I'll wait for that one just like I'll wait for a chance to play a Master Chief-Samus mashup on my iPhone-PSP hybrid

  • @Unastheslayer-PSN: could happen, but im betting sony's pushing to keep that one. i dont know what im expecting of this year's TGS, personally.

that video was hot. hot to death.

  • I wouldn't mind some Wiimote controlled buster sword action in the future. Thinking about how an omnislash will be pulled off sends goosebumps up my spine.

  • Man, they sure have milked this crap dry. Oh well. The last time I cared about RPGs was at least 6 years ago.

FF2 remake before FF7 remake. Cecil FTW.

  • As long as we're bringing up the CG movies, and Advent Children (which I LOVED), I recommend checking out The Spirits Within if you haven't seen it since it came out. It was recently released on BluRay, and it has aged well. It's a lot better than I remember it being.

  • Looks good, picking this up next week.

  • Heh.

So it was him who did that jump first.

    @topaz420:
The Spirits Within was a flop because fan boys were expecting a Final Fantasy game made movie (ala Advent Children). I'm really sad that The Spirits Within failed because it made Sqaure-Hawaii fold shop. My father helped build their offices and I got Hironobu Sakaguchi to sign a copy of FFVII. I even got a sneak peak inside at some point and saw first hand the development phases of Parasite Eve before anyone even knew about it.
I told all my friends at school but no one believed me. I mean, we were in 7th grade then (1997)

Man, why could you do better, The Spirits Within.

Whoops. Anyway, fire those guys that shoot guns at Zacks. It's like they're not even trying.
