Somethings work. For example, the silent film aspect does. Bowl-haircuts and live-action Slimes don't. For those who actually want to see more Dragon Quest, two more clips continue after the jump.

That's pretty sweet. Yeah, the slimes are cheesy, but it's still pretty fun. I love the attention to detail in making it match up with the game (Dragon Quest II right?)
awesome, one of my tips made it.
I loved the scene where he took a big chunk out of his apple, with a look of perverse joy. He looked almost as if he got vengeance upon the apple that killed his parents.
"Finally", Magic Fairy Boy thought. "Finally I will have my vengeance. Have at thee, foul apple".
Enter raining toy-slime scene.
This was utterly awful. I loved it.
Wow....this is....wow.
It's loading really pretty slowly for me right now, but I'm at least past the slime scene now, and all I can say is....wow.
...that was so bad.
But impressively so. Wow.
No way, man, this is BOSS. The best part is, I don't feel like retching in revulsion because some artsy fartsy director mucked up large parts of the game world. This actually seems like a Dragon Quest adventure.
Perhaps I'm too entrenched in my 80's, but game movies and medieval fantasy movies need to be a bit more like this, This is pure, this is unadulterated, and what I'd like to see again, instead of explosion/car chase/explosion again/sex scene/something Xx-Treme.
Bring the 80's back!
Yes, I did just watch The Neverending Story on DVD, why do you ask?
@PTTSeven:
Im totally with you, we need more Never Ending Stories, more Willows, and since we are at it, more Ewoks movies, hell yeah.
That was pretty cool. For some strage reason i have an urge to watch Willow... that was how fantasy films should be done!
:)
To be honest I quite liked it for what it was. I think the slimes looked repulsive and horrible, as in: actually quite good if the intent were mature, but a bit too scary for a light-hearted piece such as this.
I also really liked the equipment dealer and the costumes were pretty good.
Overall I think someone actually put some effort into working with what was likely to be a very small budget.
PTTseven, Erzengel, Duoae, you guys are dead on. I didn't think these DQ movies were that bad, and I completely agree that we've lost touch with what a good fantasy movie should be.
(goes off to watch Willow)
PTTSeven: "explosion/car chase/explosion again/sex scene/something Xx-Treme"?
Dude! You just DESCRIBED the 80's!

Those were better than anything that's playing at the local movie theater, right now, that's for sure.
Wow... I'm actually impressed. Wow. Someone fund these guys to make a real video-game based movie, it might give the video-game movie industry some needed potential.
That was AWESOME! I loved every bit of it
@AgentTofu:
*reads the link* ... snap, you're right! <:O
You got me there. I guess it all seemed so innocent back then...
I do however, hold firm that there's a certain something with 80's fantasy movies that has been lost (LotR excepted) over the years. Willow, Neverending Story, Flight of the Navigator, those kind of movies.
I remember, back when FF1 was released, Nintendo Power had some sort of "Final Fantasy Adventure" as the monthly contest grand prize, and I thought it would have been SO COOL to win that. I imagined something like the above, where you're actually dudded up in the armor, play-acting like you're the hero. It probably wasn't as sweet as the above movie, but in my imagination...
@PTTSeven: "I do however, hold firm that there's a certain something with 80's fantasy movies that has been lost"
My thoughts... you grew up. If the movies you mentioned didnt come out til now, they wouldnt have the same effect on you, but your kids would freakin love em.
On a side note, anyone got links to full episodes? that would be awesome
Man, amateur hour. You want a REAL Dragon Quest movie, you click on THIS link.

GeeQnastie: I don't know what your definition of growing up is, but Neverending Story is exactly as magical as it was for me as it was when I was little. I agree with PTTSeven, something has been lost for the most part, but there are movies these days that get it right. Anyone see Monster House? For me, that movie felt like watching a sequel to the Goonies, that's how damn awesome it was.

Just so everyone is
Just so everyone is clear on this:
This is NOT a TV show, and it NOT fan made. This video was made by ENIX in 1988 and was released on VHS and Laserdisc. I know this because I own both. The runtime is only 43 minutes for the whole film...
You can see my VHS tape in the link below:

The VHS sells for $30-$50 usually, while the laserdisc pulls in alot more.
