If you're a Final Fantasy fan and reside in the San Francisco Bay Area, your dreams of going to a party celebrating the 20th anniversary of the long running franchise have just come true.
On June 26, Square Enix will be throwing a shindig at the Sony Playstation Store at the Metreon Center at 101 4th Street in downtown San Francisco to commemorate the occasion of twenty years of magic, mayhem and androgynous male characters. Party goers will get the chance to purchase the Final Fantasy I revamped for the PSP as well as getting a glimpse of the new FF II remake (also on the PSP). As an added bonus, the first hundred people through the door will receive exclusive FF merchandise. If you're one of those lucky hundred, be sure to snap pictures of this exclusive merchandise so we can post it here and make you the envy of every FF fan in the world (minus ninety-nine).

You know, I'd make some sort of comment about how Luke already posted about this last night, but the nightmare-inducing image he accompanied it with makes me glad to see this article again, horror-free.
Carry on!
First hundred people get free swag? Here comes the stampedes of fat cosplayers. It will be like the Running of the Bull.
What are the odds that if Luke's the one who posted something FF related we'd see something ghastly?
I just finished the FF1 remake, and I'd have to say I was underwhelmed. Sure the graphics were given a little overhaul but aside from that. There was too much random battles. This was my first time playing the game so I didn't know where to go,what to do etc.
That said, when I met the last boss, I was too powerful that he didn't post much of a challenge. Ah maybe I'm just not their target audience or something.
Square and Sony sitting on a tree...
@excaliburps: Sitting ON a tree?
@excaliburps:
I usually do that on purpose. Get myself pumped up so powerfully that the final boss is no challenge. Makes me feel invincible.
When I beat FF12, I only had to heal my group twice during the final fight. I was just to much for him to handle.
@PapaBear434:
Heh, not only did I not have to heal against the final boss, I had to turn off my gambits or else I would have killed him too fast to do anything fun.
I guess that makes sense though, because I killed Yiazmat prior to entering the final area =P.
@cheez: It's a money tree. Can't sit in it, you'll stain the green with some brown leaking from...
Well you can guess.
@cheez:
Yup! Or should it be "in"? (they're k-i-s-s-i-n-g) Woo! Lame I know. Square like Sony much? I meant that because Square is doing it all in the Sony Metreon right? Ah forget it...
@PapaBear434:
Yep I do that on purpose sometimes too. It's just that, in the FF1 remake. I wasn't trying too. It just sort of happened.
You can do that in FF12? Didn't they opt for the leveling system wherein the monsters and bosses leveled up with you?
I haven't played an rpg in a long while (aside from the FF1 remake. That's why I'm bitter).
@cheez:
Um Black Dog's interpretation is better. I'm going to say that's what I meant. =D
20 years of an angsty hero off to fight some "evil" super villain. I can't imagine where they ran out of ideas....
@Customreality: ...FFIV and VII were the first to have angsty heroes.
FFI, FFII, FFIII, FFV, FFVI, FFIX, FFXI, and FFXII didn't have an angsty hero. Technically not all those games had an evil by default super villan. Misinterpreting ambitious, opportunistic, charismatic for evil is a common mistake. They aren't evil until the second half or last third of the game. And in some cases the villan was just in opposition of the lead characters and their views, which ultimately might have been the most evil thing they did by being on the wrong side.
@Black-Dog-Howls: touche.
Yes, 20 years have come and gone. Square has made Final Fantasies From Final Fantasy I-XII to the Tactics and other side games. But can't Square stop making remakes? Remakes of remakes are not very good even if it started off with a good intent. I love Square and their intellectual properties, but new is better.
I hope all the FF nay-sayers will take notice of this occasion. It's been getting a bad rap from fanboys that don't understand how truly monumental this series has been by spouting off random demeaning comments. Good games come and go, but good series last forever.
I hope XIII revives the series. XII just put such a bad taste in my mouth. I couldn't even play it, I just returned it.
Did I read that correct? FF1 is on its own UMD? S-E could have easily put 1-3 on 1 UMD with updated graphics. I cannot believe people are even buying this game.
@Deth: I haven't played it, but I was under the impression they added more cutscenes than the PS1 version, so it took up more space... Plus, since If I bought FF1 and FF2, it would only be for 2 anyhow, I may as well just skip the middleman...
If anyone from here is going to this thing, try to badger as many Square Enix executives as possible to try to at least make them see why Final Fantasy 13 would be good on the Xbox 360. It's not a matter of my desire to buy the game, it's my desire to see as many PS3 fanboys as possible fling themselves off a cliff, thereby making the world a better place. ^_^
I may be wrong, but wasn't this posted earlier?
20 years of the same 20 games (approximately). Although some are in space and are all future like and some are ... erm ... not. YAY! Turn-based for the win (if you roll correctly).
Hey, that's my birthday!
Too bad I hate menu-based RPGs, and thus almost all of the FF games... >.>
@cheez:
They attack the giant enemy tree's weak point for massive damage.
