Funny that this comes up after seeing an ad for that cake show on this site.
I'm confused by a few of the design decisions on this cake, but it still looks tres cool.

Why is it that everyone who does 1-up mushroom related art copies the ugly Hot Topic t-shirt version?

I think Crecente was trying to make a joke about parts of the male anatomy 'growing'. Unfortunately, he failed to notice that this is a 1-Up mushroom, which is different than a super mushroom. Thus exposing himself as the fraud he is.
Who wouldn't like getting one of these?
