We Make Money Not Art tipped us off to the new book "GameScenes. Art in the Age of Videogames" which, according to the official site, "explores the rapidly expanding world of Game Art in the works of over 30 international artists." Some of the names like Cory Arcangel and Jeremiah "Nullsleep" Johnson may be familiar to hardcore gamers with an appreciation for the arts (or "ahts"), but some very well known pieces look to be included from illustrators and photographers with whom which you may not be immediately familiar.
Some of the contributions were instantly recognizable to me, such as Nick Bertke's HDR-lighted Half-Life 2 models superimposed on real photographs and Palle Torsson's movie sets recreated in the Unreal Engine.
The book looks to be available currently only at an Italian online retailer, but we'll let you know if we see another store selling it.
