Bethesda have purchased the rights to the Fallout IP from Interplay for $5.75 million. The deal went down on April 9, and will no doubt make a lot of people very, very happy.
The move sees a little role-reversal: Bethesda were licensing the IP from Interplay for Fallout 3, but Interplay are now the licensees, borrowing the IP from Bethesda for their own Fallout MMO.
Included in the deal are some specifics on the MMO, including the fact the MMO HAS to begin work within 2 years of now, HAS to be released within four years and that when it is, 12% of all sales and subscription fees will go to Bethesda.
So there you have it, kids. Dreams can come true. Bethesda now owns the Fallout IP. Commence with the joy-making.
