Channel 6 News in Portland, Oregon reports that Best Buy management deceived Xbox 360 customers in order to pocket extra cash. The store published an ad saying the new Xbox would cost either $299 or $399, depending on the model. However, when gamers lined up on launch day, they were given a flier that said the advert was incorrect. Thus, they'd have to buy bundles with tons of extras, which pushed the price up hundreds of dollars.
"I felt that they [Best Buy] were cheating the customers. I have an 11-, 12-year-old child come up to me and say, 'I saved $400—that's all the money I have," says an undefined Best Buy employee.
"What was your response to the 11-year-old kid?" the Channel 6 reporter asked.
"Pretty much, sorry, there's nothing I can do. I'm not a manager," the sympathetic employee said.
Local management denied the Channel 6's request for an interview. Corporate Best Buy released a statement, saying the company takes these allegations very seriously and is investigating. The store said that anyone who felt they were forced into buying extras could return them. The unidentified employee says that this is not the case, however.
Hey Best Buy, git yer friggin' priorities straight and spend less time worrying about blogs publishing the truth and more about yer own unscrupulous employees publishing falsehoods. This is the second time in a week we've seen outright lies. Shame on you.
