UK-based author Steven Poole was a long-time columnist for Edge Magazine, and he's been writing about games for quite some time.
Now he's decided (partly prompted by the launch of Amazon's Kindle e-book reader) to give away his game-related book Trigger Happy, originally released in 2000, for free on his weblog.
As he explains of the tome:
Trigger Happy is a book about the aesthetics of videogames — what they share with cinema, the history of painting, or literature; and what makes them different, in terms of form, psychology and semiotics
What he's trying to say here is that it's a smart culture-oriented book about what makes games unique - and now it's been released for free, under a Creative Commons license, with donations welcome if you like it. So you have no reason not to check it out.
