  • The only two that make me go 'Really?' are Crackdown for best Action/Adventure and Wii Sports for best Strategy/Simulation. I suppose if you want to be absolutely technical it's a simulation but why put it in that category if it's already in Sports?

  • I'm surprised Okami won so much. Isn't that game pretty dated compared to the rest? I'd also say Eye of Judgement is more innovative than Wii Sports, but that's just me

  • I think they're missing the point of what is usually meant by a simulation for WiiSports. Sports is a simulation within itself, but of a real life physical activity. Those other games got hosed.

  • Wii Sports = Nintendo's killer app?

  • Crackdown featuring Halo 3 Beta...?

  • @vizion: Only got a PAL release this year.

  • Crackdown , WTF?! the halo 3 beta won O_O

...seriously, if a game is known more because it had a beta for another game than for the game itself that doesnt speak well....
and some of the competitors in the same category are far superior like ...all the rest

  • why is the list so outdated?

    okami? that's yesterday's stuff.

would wish these reward shows would come sooner.

  • Crackdown > Halo 3.

  • I wonder if Andy Millman was banned from these awards as well...

  • The Orange Box (PS3)
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (PS3)
    Singstar (PS3)

I wanna know who adds the titles and who does the voting...! How did these games make the cut since they aren't even out yet. Seem Bias/Unfare in my opinion. Looks like the movie awards all of the winners are based on the judges vote not the consumers' vote. But it's a funny read anywhooo?!

  • I played the Demo for Crackdown on the OXM disk. The only reason I didn't buy it was due to lack of funds. I seriously doubt it was known 'more because it had a beta for another game,' as I do believe various places had good things to say about it as well.

  • @JorgieX: Yeah wondering how Crysis (PC) got there as well...

  • All I could think was wtf, Wii Sports? Who does the judging old people? BAFTA is meaningless.

  • @Stormrider900:

I thought the same exact thing: Crackdown was the worst on the list, and Wii hardly seems like the "simulation" that the category should reward.

  • Wow serioesly who the hell are BAFTA represented by? What a load of shit.

    Look at this:
    The PC World Gamers Award

    Dr Kawashima's Brain Training (DS)
    FIFA 07 (PS2)
    Football Manager 2007 (PC)
    Gears of War (Xbox 360)
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories (PSP)
    Resistance: Fall of Man (PS3)
    Wii Play (Wii)

The only PC game in the list won the PC World Gamers Award, SHOCKING...

  • ... Huh? Like,... serious?

Technical Achievement... God of War II??!?!

    *walks away scratching head*

  • It makes me cry that there were no handhelds on here. There were better DS games than the ones nominated here for the DS in the last year.

  • I am a Wii sport fans even I went 'WHAT?' on some of this awards it got, expecially Strategy and Simulation. You can notice is the sore thumb of the other games place under that, I mean if you going to put Wii Sport mind as well put that Madden game where you are only the coach (Madden Head Coach I think is the name).

Well beside 'it prints money' apperently a new gif just for Wii sports 'Wins award in any genre is place as a contender!'

  • Well, I'll throw in my two cents with the rest, stating a good 'WTF' in regard to...well...most of the Wii Sports awards.

I do believe that it, honestly, deserves the casual game award, but the rest...not so much. Yeah, it uses the controls that the Wii is built for. Really. I played it for a month or so, then threw it in the drawer to sit and rot.

Innovation? Yeah, it uses the Wii controls. That's kind of like having a game marked as innovative if it rumbles, back when rumble came out. Great job. Real innovation.

Now that, as opposed to Okami, which took games to a completely different art/culture level (at least for the US), or Eye of Judgment, which uses an add-on to make a card game come to life...well...

Then again, I guess I'm jaded since I've had my Wii since launch...*shrug*

  • @TheKbob: GOW II is the perfect example of what a winner for technical award should be ...
    that award was well deserved

  • It's nice to see things like the Halo 3 beta being honored but the surprise surge of the we deifications winning??? It's completely understandable I guess. It shows how "main-stream" BAFTA is if you think about it. Ask any snooty black turtle neck wearing art types: When did Sundance go to shits? They'd all tell you it was when the "casuals" got hold of it (then they'd walk into a Starbucks).

  • lol...

    crackdown beats gears...

    wii sports beats zelda...

and a playstation 2 game has better graphics than a 360 show stopper....

    riiiiiiiiiiight.

  • @Shijirou:

And I was wondering how Kane and Lynch got on there.

  • @TheKbob: Why? YOU try squeezing that much out of the PS2.

  • What's with all this bitching?

While I do disagree with some of the choices, it feels like a good deal of the disappointment coming from this crowd is because this list is "outdated". But looking at the list, there isn't a single "new" game missing, at least not one thats worth any sort of award.

Why does this feel like too many Halo fans are upset that it was excluded from the BAFTA glory?

  • You say the PS3 didn't win squat (?). Please explain since there were quite a few games that got awards. Do you mean the system itself didn't win any awards? I'm confused.

Anyway, it's also strange that Ratchet won an award since the game just launched today and Okami has been out for well over a year.

Oh well, interesting read if nothing else. But will these awards mean anything in the long run? My guess is no.

  • I like how Orange Boxes nod was given to the version that's not anywhere close to out. Wii Sports for Strategy/Simulation? What a joke.

  • @incredibilistic: The PS3 had plenty of games nominated but none won.

  • i have a question...why is ratchet in there and halo is not? one that released a month earlier??? how does that make any sense?

  • To all the Crackdown haters, you don't know what you're missing. It is a great game and I played it all the time DURING the Halo 3 beta. That said, best action adventure? I wouldn't go that far...

Use of Audio? Snarf? And why is it even on the list for multiplayer?? Being in the same city gets you nominated? riiiiiight.

I'm honestly surprised Gears didn't win something. The dialog is terrible, but it looks and plays great, and actively encourages players to cooperate, see, e.g., multiplayer achievements.

    -p-

  • Wii sports was boring after 30 minutes. Maybe I'll get flamed for this, but I just don't see how it could win so many awards.

    ~

  • I think I echo everyone's sentiments when I say how bizarre these rewards are. Both in regards to the winners and the nominees. I don't understand the point of the craziness.

  • Image of Cola82 Cola82 at 10:39 PM on 10/23/07 *

Dude, I'm not one to advocate Gears, but I think it was "technically" more "achieved" than GOW.

Maybe I'm blind or something, but that's how I see it.

    And Okami isn't old news.

  • Former Clover employee: Hmm. More awards for Okami.

Employee #2: That almost makes me feel better. OK not really.

  • @Cola82:
Gears is not close to be as technically achieved as gow II ,not even close...

  • Image of Toasticus Toasticus at 12:19 AM on 10/24/07 *

    Some very strange selections there.

  • When a party game like Wii Sports is pitted against World in Conflict as 'Strategy' (and WINS), and then against WoW as 'Multiplayer' (and WINS)...

    *cough*

Actually, I think that basically says it all.

  • @Volomon: PC World is a store and they sell a whole bunch of stuff - I'm guessing the award is just the cursory public vote. Though, yes if you go into a PC World and ask the type of people who go there, Football Manager 2007 is no real surprise.

  • Wii Sports is the devil. There's just no other way to put it. It's one of those things that make you lose faith in humanity. It's like in music, where people pour their heart and soul into a song, and create a wonderful work of art, and then promptly gets stomped all over by "Boten Anna" by Basshunter.

    People are wrong.

  • Wow. Sad. Like really sad. My guess - Judging was done by looking at what games made the most mainstream press headlines. How does a game get the "Best Game" award, but get beaten out in every other category it's in? Use of Audio - Crackdown? Where in the fuck is Guitar Hero? Bioshock? Etc...

A total and utter failure. I'm all for big award shows for games and such, but this does more harm to the industry than it does good.

    In closing, I'm absolutely disgusted.

  • WTF....NO ZELDA!?!!?!!!

  • These awards are silly - unreleased games, Wii Sports still getting awards when all it is is a simple use of the new controller, and not a great game.
Crackdown is well deserving of what it got and more. But that said.. load of rubbish.

  • My friend sent me a text last night to say he'd won a BAFTA!!

    Ragnarawk FTW!

    GuitaRPG's are the future!

Check out the BBC news coverage of the game:
    [news.bbc.co.uk]
And the trailer is on YouTube:

Also you can download the demo from the 2007 showcase here:

  • That list is just a pile of crap to be honest. =/
Maybe some good awards ceremony for games should happen sometime? Don't Gamespot and IGN do awards too (Of course, not to the same scale)?

  • @Volomon:

    rolf :D thats rediculous

  • Wow. Just... wow. These awards just lost a lot of credence from my perspective.

WiiSports should have won casual, and maybe sports, and that's it. All the "innovation" is in regards to the console, not the game itself, and others on the list benefit from the same mechanics.

I don't understand this at all.

  • LOL Wii Sports > WoW in multiplayer?

    Are you $&*@$ kidding me?
Are you seriously O(&%(* kidding me?
OMFG are you ()&*%%) seriously $)(%& kidding me?

  • I can think of a variety of other games doing more marvels in achievement than just shiny GFX on a PS2. We need to reward games for the entire techincal package of physics, textures, shading, the whole shebang. GoWII was just all visuals and no go, for me. Quite lacking. The Unreal Engine, Source Engine, Halo 3 w/ Film and Forge components,... these have technical achievements, not shiny PS2 graphics.

That's how I justify my call of "shenanigans". Wii Sports winning that much? Yah,... right.

  • Oh and I failed to notice the Crackdown over Orange Box call. ... Wii sports over Medieval II, WiC, and R6:Vegas?

    Shenanigans.

  • @Volomon: LOL, PC World is a store which sales hardware and software, it started of as a PC store first (hence the name PC World), but then they moved into all kinds of electronic equipment. That category was sposored by them, it didn't mean that the games in that category were meant to be for a PC. LOL

  • Although I don't necessarily agree with it winning, it's harsh to suggest Crackdown isn't there on merit. It is a damn fine slice of 'gaming pie'. Halo 3 beta thing didn't make me buy it, and I'm sure it's not just me.
