Making snowmen is great. But when some engineering and computer science students from the New Jersey Institute of Technology see snow bucketing down and decide to get creative, it's better. Using a string grid to get the scale down right, they spent hours tracking, slushing and stamping the snow to pay a little homage.
Who could it be, readers?

Of course.
So, so great. Nice work guys.

flying mario, yay
Go, college educations!
That's pretty hot, but where's Princess Peach? Or did they run out of space because she's three times his size? Is that why they didn't make her in the first place?
Is she a transvestite?
That is so awesome omg i want to do that! wow thats people are old school.
put that on your resume, chop chop!
it's a pity that the camera isn't in the right place :S
That is a nice job, wish I would of seen it in person (snow is slushy now )-Since NJIT is right next to Rutgers (my school.) Too bad.
Huh. I thought it was Stephen Hawking. My bad.
Whey! Nice one guys!
I'd love to have the spacial awareness to do something on that scale.
Nice! I knew it would be Mario, but it's always nice to have my suspicions confirmed.
Ok, there needs to be a new clinical pshychiatric term for anyone over the age of 16 who is still in love with Mario. Give it a rest! It's amazing that gamers think it's "cool" but if these people who do all this Mario stuff. . chalk paintings, rubik's cube, ,legos, etc., did it of say, Barney or the Teletubbies, you'd all think they were retarded. Same thing. Give it up and grow up, he isn't cool. When you were 9 maybe but not now.
I got it. . . Post-puberty-plumber-love-neurosis.
Do you and your family a favor and seek professional help.
@Lachoy:
Sounds like you never had an NES. What's wrong? Parents didn't love you?
Barney is just some fuckoff in a suit, Mario is a legend.
@AGiES:
LOL! Mario, who is just a drawing and a piss poor, over-used game icon, is a "legend" but Barney is, "just some fuckoff in a suit"?!?!?
First off, I've had every Nintendo system since the NES and when I owned an NES I had and played Mario. Guess what? Even before the SNES came out and I was about 15, I stopped playing kiddie games. Mario included. Yes, Mario is a game for the kiddies, hate to be the one to break it to you.
What's the matter? Didn't you have parents to show you how to grow up? Or does Mommy and Daddy let you live in their basement and give you an allowance even though your 47?
You must still think Big Bird, King Friday and Ewoks are cool.
Since when did this place just become a pissing match in the comments section? The new "reply to" system's alright, shows the gremlins inside Kotaku aren't just there for eating things and trashing tables ... but it breads trash like this.
/sigh
King Friday isn't cool?
Have you seen the Aberlin/Fairchild photos?
He's mad pimpin'!
Meowmeowmeowmeow hardcore meow!
Every post Lachoy makes has a negative vibe to it. Go back and read a few. One of the best is this:
"It was MS who said the X-box would have Toy Story-esq graphics. . . noob.
I'm amazed at how this quote is still, to this day blamed on Sony when, in fact, it was someone from microsoft. Proof of the ignorant parrot syndrome that runs rampant in society today."
k.ro tried to set him straight by posting a link to but he didn't reply after being corrected.
a link to this...sorry
Yes, playing games are not about having fun people, it's about the mature content, duh. You obviously need help if your game does not have adult protagonists and involve killing.
Go die >_> No one on this site thinks playing an old Mario game is kiddy and makes you need help, including the Kotaku team. You obviously don't belong here.
On subject, this is no original idea, I used to do this in junior high, only with big penises on the sides of large hills. Twas probably fun making the Mario and taking pictures though.

@DoomedSeraph:
It's gonna be alright.
YEAH NEW JERSEY!
I know some of the kids that made this IRL, don't know if that's a good thing or not :P
DoomedSeraph:
It definitely BREADS this kind of thing.
cowbellemoo:
Nostalgia? About video games? Anyway, you should need to be over the age of 55 to be nostalgic.
And last but not least, my friend adamcole:
Did your article have a direct quote in it? No? Amazing. Do you know why it didn't? Because no one from Sony ever said it!!!!
But here's a link to a news article that has a DIRECT QUOTE from someone at MICROSOFT saying it about the X-box. Read it and weep:

It's ok, I forgive you.
That's the best thing to come out of my state, well, ever. I'm sorry.
Screams COLLEGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, alright, it really just screams COMPUTER SCIENCES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mario is my homeboy.
Must be lonely up on that pedestal huh Lachoy?
@Lachoy: "Nostalgia? About video games? Anyway, you should need to be over the age of 55 to be nostalgic."
Nope. Nostalgia has occurred earlier in each subsequent generation since the 1950s when it became an established phenomenon in popular culture. Generation X & Y have had a fairly obvious precedent of revisiting and celebrating elements of their childhood in their 20s/30s.
@Lachoy: Mmmm bread...
@Doomstalk:
LOL
Thats my school! Awesome! lol
